Abstract:In this note, we explain an operadic proof of the BTT Theorem stating that the deformation theory of Calabi-Yau varieties is unobstructed. We also provide a short new proof of the non-commutative BTT for Calabi-Yau dg-categories. Finally, we observe that our proof also produces partial results in positive characteristic.

Abstract: We describe the proof that the period map from the Torelli space of Calabi-Yau manifolds to the classifying space of polarized Hodge structures is an embedding. The proof is based on the constructions of holomorphic affine structure on the Teichm\"uller space and Hodge metric completion of the Torelli space. A canonical global holomorphic section of the holomorphic $(n, 0)$ class on the Teichm\"uller space is constructed.

Abstract:We construct a global B-model for any quasi-homogeneous polynomial f that has properties similar to the properties of the physic's B-model on a Calabi-Yau manifold. The main ingredients in our construction are K. Saito's theory of primitive forms and Givental's higher genus reconstruction. More precisely, we consider the moduli space M-mar degrees of the so-called marginal deformations of f . For each point sigma is an element of M-mam degrees mar we introduce the notion of an opposite subspace in the twisted de Rham cohomology of the corresponding singularity f(sigma) and prove that opposite subspaces are in one-to-one correspondence with the splittings of the Hodge structure in the vanishing cohomology of f(sigma). Therefore, according to M. Saito, an opposite subspace gives rise to a semi-simple Frobenius structure on the space of miniversal deformations of f(sigma). Using Givental's higher genus reconstruction we define a total ancestor potential A(sigma) ((h) over bar, q) whose properties can be described quite elegantly in terms of the properties of the corresponding opposite subspace. For example, if the opposite subspace corresponds to the splitting of the Hodge structure given by complex conjugation, then the total ancestor potential is monodromy invariant and it satisfies the BCOV holomorphic anomaly equations. The coefficients of the total ancestor potential could be viewed as quasi-modular forms on M-Mar degrees in a certain generalized sense. As an application of our construction, we consider the case of a Fermat polynomial W that defines a Calabi-Yau hypersurface X-w in a weighted-projective space. We have constructed two opposite subspaces and proved that the corresponding total ancestor potentials can be identified with respectively the total ancestor potential of the orbifold quotient X-W/(G) over tilde (W) and the total ancestor potential of FJRW invariants corresponding to (W, G(W)). Here G(W) is the maximal group of diagonal symmetries of W and (G) over tilde (W) is a quotient of G(W) by the subgroup of those elements that act trivially on X-W. In particular, our result establishes the so-called Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for the pair (W, G(W)).

Abstract:Tomita-Takesaki theory associates a positive operator called the "modular operator" with a von Neumann algebra and a cyclic-separating vector. Tomita's theorem says that the unitary flow generated by the modular operator leaves the algebra invariant. I give a new, short proof of this theorem which only uses the analytic structure of unitary flows, and which avoids operator-valued Fourier transforms (as in van Daele's proof) and operator-valued Mellin transforms (as in Zsidó's and Woronowicz's proofs). The proof is similar to one given by Bratteli and Robinson in the special case that the modular operator is bounded.

Counting surfaces on Calabi-Yau 4-folds II: $\mathrm{DT}$-$\mathrm{PT}_0$ correspondence

Abstract:This is the second part in a series of papers on counting surfaces on Calabi-Yau 4-folds. In this paper, we introduce $K$-theoretic $\mathrm{DT}, \mathrm{PT}_0, \mathrm{PT}_1$ invariants and conjecture a $\mathrm{DT}$-$\mathrm{PT}_0$ correspondence. For certain tautological insertions, we derive Lefschetz principles in both the compact and toric case allowing reductions to 3-dimensional $\mathrm{DT}, \mathrm{PT}$ invariants. We also develop a topological vertex and conjecture a $\mathrm{DT}$-$\mathrm{PT}_0$ vertex correspondence. These methods enable us to verify our conjectures in several examples.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to explain and to generalize, in a homotopical way, the result of Barannikov-Kontsevich and Manin which states that the underlying homology groups of some Batalin-Vilkovisky algebras carry a Frobenius manifold structure. To this extent, we first make the minimal model for the operad encoding BV-algebras explicit. Then we prove a homotopy transfer theorem for the associated notion of homotopy BV-algebra. The final result provides an extension of the action of the homology of the Deligne-Mumford-Knudsen moduli space of genus 0 curves on the homology of some BV-algebras to an action via higher homotopical operations organized by the cohomology of the open moduli space of genus zero curves. Applications in Poisson geometry and Lie algebra cohomology and to the Mirror Symmetry conjecture are given.

Abstract:In this short note, we give a new proof of a recent result of Tong Liu on torsions in the graded pieces of a Nygaard filtration associated to a crystalline lattice. Our approach is inspired on the one hand by a result of Gee--Kisin on the shape of mod $p$ crystalline Breuil--Kisin modules, and on the other hand by a connection between the Deligne--Illusie theorem and the Sen operator on the diffracted Hodge complex, as observed by Drinfeld and Bhatt--Lurie.

Abstract:For a d-Calabi-Yau triangulated category C with a d-cluster tilting subcategory T, the decomposition of C is determined by the decomposition of T satisfying 'vanishing condition' of negative extension groups, namely, C=circle plus C-i is an element of I(i), where C-i, i is an element of I, are triangulated subcategories, if and only if T=circle plus T-i is an element of I(i), where T-i, i is an element of I, are subcategories with Hom(C)(T-i[t], T-j)=0, for all 0 < t < d-2 and i not equal j. This induces that for any two cluster tilting objects T and T' in a 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category C, the Gabriel quiver of the endomorphism algebra End(C)T is connected if and only if so is that of End(C)T'. As an application, we prove that the indecomposable 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated categories with cluster tilting objects have no non-trivial t-structures and no non-trivial co-t-structures. This allows us to give a classification of torsion pairs in those triangulated categories, and to determine further the hearts of torsion pairs in the sense of Nakaoka, which are equivalent to the module categories over the endomorphism algebras of the cores of the torsion pairs. We also discuss the relationship between mutations of torsion pairs and mutations of cluster tilting objects.
Universal Extensions and Ext-Orthogonal Complements of Torsion Classes

Abstract:We show that torsion pairs in Krull--Schmidt abelian categories induce an equivalence between the subcategory of torsion-free objects admitting universal extensions to the torsion subcategory, and a quotient of the ext-orthogonal complement of the torsion subcategory. This generalize an equivalence described by Bauer--Botnan--Oppermann--Steen for tilting-torsion pairs and by Buan--Zhou for functorially finite torsion pairs. The result also provides a more direct proof of the functorially finite case, not relying on the machinery of two-term silting complexes. We illustrate the equivalence in the special case of tube categories. After first appearing on the arXiv, the author learnt that the equivalence has previously been described by Demonet--Iyama.

Abstract:Quasi-BPS categories appear as summands in semiorthogonal decompositions of DT categories for Hilbert schemes of points in the three dimensional affine space and in the categorical Hall algebra of the two dimensional affine space. In this paper, we prove several properties of quasi-BPS categories analogous to BPS sheaves in cohomological DT theory. We first prove a categorical analogue of Davison's support lemma, namely that complexes in the quasi-BPS categories for coprime length and weight are supported over the small diagonal in the symmetric product of the three dimensional affine space. The categorical support lemma is used to determine the torsion-free generator of the torus equivariant K-theory of the quasi-BPS category of coprime length and weight. We next construct a bialgebra structure on the torsion free equivariant K-theory of quasi-BPS categories for a fixed ratio of length and weight. We define the K-theoretic BPS space as the space of primitive elements with respect to the coproduct. We show that all localized equivariant K-theoretic BPS spaces are one dimensional, which is a K-theoretic analogue of the computation of (numerical) BPS invariants of the three dimensional affine space.

Abstract:We describe a category of undirected graphs which comes equipped with a faithful functor into the category of (colored) modular operads. The associated singular functor from modular operads to presheaves is fully faithful, and its essential image can be classified by a Segal condition. This theorem can be used to recover a related statement, due to André Joyal and Joachim Kock, concerning a larger category of undirected graphs whose functor to modular operads is not just faithful but also full.

Abstract:This is a survey on recent progress in algebraic deformation theory and the application of algebraic operads to its study. We review the classical homotopical tools in the theory of algebraic operads, namely Koszul duality. We give concrete examples of applications of such tools to various flavours of problems related to deformations of algebraic structures. We also study formal moduli problems and related notions from the operadic point of view.

Abstract:We present some results from classical homological algebra using the language of cotorsion theories in abelian categories. The results are a couple of foundational facts about homological dimension, the Kunneth formula and the universal coefficients formula. We also present some ''totally acyclic'' cotorsion theories and revisit some results from the literature concerning resolutions of chain complexes in abelian categories.

Topological proofs of categorical coherence

Abstract:We give a short topological proof of coherence for categorified non-symmetric operads by using the fact that the diagrams involved form the 1-skeleton of simply connected CW complexes. We also obtain a "one-step" topological proof of Mac Lane's coherence theorem for symmetric monoidal categories, as suggested by Kapranov in 1993. Our analysis is based on a notion of combinatorial homotopy, which we further study in the special case of polyhedral complexes, leading to a second geometrical proof of coherence which is very close to Mac Lane's original argument. We use Morse theory to show that this second method is (strictly) less general than the first. We provide a detailed analysis of how both methods allow us to deduce these two categorical coherence results and discuss possible generalizations to higher categories.

Abstract:We prove that the -torsion of the transcendental Brauer group of an abelian variety over a finitely generated field of characteristic is bounded. This answers a (variant of a) question asked by Skorobogatov and Zarhin for abelian varieties. To do this, we prove a 'flat Tate conjecture' for divisors. We also study other geometric Galois-invariant -torsion classes of the Brauer group which are not in the transcendental Brauer group. These classes, in contrast with our main theorem, can be infinitely -divisible. We explain how the existence of these -divisible towers is naturally related to the failure of surjectivity of specialisation morphisms of Néron–Severi groups in characteristic .

Remarks on $τ$-tilted versions of the second Brauer-Thrall Conjecture

Abstract:In this short note, we state a stable and a $\tau$-reduced version of the second Brauer-Thrall Conjecture. The former is a slight strengthening of a brick version of the second Brauer-Thrall Conjecture raised by Mousavand and Schroll-Treffinger-Valdivieso. The latter is stated in terms of Geiss-Leclerc-Schröer's generically $\tau$-reduced components and provides a geometric interpretation of a question of Demonet. It follows that the stable second Brauer-Thrall Conjecture implies our $\tau$-reduced second Brauer-Thrall Conjecture. Finally, we prove the reversed implication for the class of E-tame algebras recently introduced by Asai-Iyama.

Arithmetic liftings and 2d TQFT for dormant opers of higher level

Abstract:This manuscript represents an advance in the enumerative geometry of opers that takes the subject beyond our previous work. Motivated by a counting problem of linear differential equations in positive characteristic, we investigate the moduli space of opers from arithmetic and combinatorial points of view. We construct a compactified moduli space classifying dormant $\mathrm{PGL}_n^{(N)}$-opers (i.e., dormant $\mathrm{PGL}_n$-opers of level $N$) on pointed stable curves in characteristic $p>0$. One of the key results is the generic étaleness of that space for $n=2$, which is proved by obtaining a detailed understanding of relevant deformation spaces. This fact induces a certain arithmetic lifting of each dormant $\mathrm{PGL}_2^{(N)}$-oper on a general curve to characteristic $p^N$; this lifting is called the canonical diagonal lifting. On the other hand, the generic étaleness also implies that the degree function for the moduli spaces in the rank $2$ case satisfies factorization properties determined by various gluing morphisms of the underlying curves. That is to say, the degree function forms a $2$d TQFT (= a $2$-dimensional topological quantum field theory); it leads us to describe dormant $\mathrm{PGL}_2^{(N)}$-opers in terms of edge numberings on trivalent graphs, as well as lattice points inside generalized rational polytopes. These results yield an effective way of computing the numbers of such objects and $2$nd order differential equations in characteristic $p^N$ with a full set of solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the categorical wall-crossing formula for certain quivers containing the three loop quiver, which we call DT/PT quivers. These quivers appear as Ext-quivers for the wall-crossing of DT/PT moduli spaces on Calabi-Yau 3-folds. The resulting formula is a semiorthogonal decomposition which involves quasi-BPS categories studied in our previous papers, and we regard it as a categorical analogue of the numerical DT/PT correspondence. As an application, we prove a categorical DT/PT correspondence for sheaves supported on reduced plane curves in the affine three dimensional space.
