Abstract:Non-homogeneous self-similar measures are generically absolute continuous in the domain of parameters for which the similarity dimension is larger than one, see \cite{[SSS]}. Using certain algebraic curves we construct here exceptional singular non-homogeneous self-similar measures in this domain.

Abstract:We give a condition for absolute continuity of self-similar measures in arbitrary dimensions. This allows us to construct the first explicit absolutely continuous examples of inhomogeneous self-similar measures in dimension one and two. In fact, for $d\geq 1$ and any given rotations in $O(d)$ acting irreducibly on $\mathbb{R}^d$ as well as any distinct translations, all having algebraic coefficients, we construct absolutely continuous self-similar measures with the given rotations and translations. We furthermore strengthen Varjú's result for Bernoulli convolutions, treat complex Bernoulli convolutions and in dimension $\geq 3$ improve the condition on absolute continuity by Lindenstrauss-Varjú. Moreover, self-similar measures of contracting on average measures are studied, which may include expanding similarities in their support.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the self-similar measure $\nu_\lambda=\mathrm{law}\left(\sum_{j \geq 0} \xi_j \lambda^j\right)$ on $\mathbb{R}$, where $|\lambda|<1$ and the $\xi_j \sim \nu$ are independent, identically distributed with respect to a measure $\nu$ finitely supported on $\mathbb{Z}$. One example of this is the classical Bernoulli convolution. It is known that for certain combinations of algebraic $\lambda$ and $\nu$ uniform on an interval, $\nu_\lambda$ is absolutely continuous and its Fourier transform has power decay (\cite{garsia1}, \cite{feng}); in the proof, it is exploited that for these combinations, a quantity called the Garsia entropy $h_{\lambda}(\nu)$ is maximal. We show that absolute continuity and power Fourier decay occur when $\lambda$ and $\nu$ are such that $h_{\lambda}(\nu)$ is maximal and classify all combinations for which this is the case. We find that if an algebraic $\lambda$ without a Galois conjugate of modulus exactly one has a $\nu$ such that $h_{\lambda}(\nu)$ is maximal, then all Galois conjugates of $\lambda$ must be smaller in modulus than one and $\nu$ must satisfy a certain finite set of linear equations in terms of $\lambda$.

Abstract:Let $f$ and $g$ be two volume preserving, Anosov diffeomorphisms on $\mathbb{T}^2$, sharing common stable and unstable cones. In this paper, we find conditions for the existence of (dissipative) neighborhoods of $f$ and $g$, $\mathcal{U}_f$ and $\mathcal{U}_g$, with the following property: for any probability measure $\mu$, supported on the union of these neighborhoods, and verifying certain conditions, the unique $\mu$-stationary SRB measure is absolutely continuous with respect to the ambient Haar measure. Our proof is inspired in the work of Tsujii for partially hyperbolic endomorphisms [Tsu05]. We also obtain some equidistribution results using the main result of [BRH17].

Abstract:This paper is partly an exposition, and partly an extension of our work [1] to the multiparameter case. We consider certain classes of parametrized dynamically defined measures. These are push-forwards, under the natural projection, of ergodic measures for parametrized families of smooth iterated function systems (IFS) on the line. Under some assumptions, most crucially, a transversality condition, we obtain formulas for the Hausdorff dimension of the measure and absolute continuity for almost every parameter in the appropriate parameter region. The main novelty of [1] and the present paper is that not only the IFS, but also the ergodic measure in the symbolic space, whose push-forward we consider, depends on the parameter. This includes many interesting families of measures, in particular, invariant measures for IFS's with place-dependent probabilities and natural (equilibrium) measures for smooth IFS's. One of the goals of this paper is to present an exposition of [1] in a more reader-friendly way, emphasizing the ideas and proof strategies, but omitting the more technical parts. This exposition/survey is based in part on the series of lectures by Károly Simon at the Summer School "Dynamics and Fractals" in 2023 at the Banach Center, Warsaw. The main new feature, compared to [1], is that we consider multi-parameter families; in other words, the set of parameters is allowed to be multi-dimensional. This broadens the scope of applications. A new application considered here is to a class of Furstenberg-like measures.

Abstract:Let $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ be an open set whose boundary may be composed of pieces of different dimensions. Assume that $\Omega$ satisfies the quantitative openness and connectedness, and there exist doubling measures $m$ on $\Omega$ and $\mu$ on $\partial \Omega$ with appropriate size conditions. Let $Lu=-\mathrm{div}(A\nabla u)$ be a real (not necessarily symmetric) degenerate elliptic operator in $\Omega$. Write $\omega_L$ for the associated degenerate elliptic measure. We establish the equivalence between the following properties: (i) $\omega_L \in A_{\infty}(\mu)$, (ii) the Dirichlet problem for $L$ is solvable in $L^p(\mu)$ for some $p \in (1, \infty)$, (iii) every bounded null solution of $L$ satisfies Carleson measure estimates with respect to $\mu$, (iv) the conical square function is controlled by the non-tangential maximal function in $L^q(\mu)$ for all $q \in (0, \infty)$ for any null solution of $L$, and (v) the Dirichlet problem for $L$ is solvable in $\mathrm{BMO}(\mu)$. On the other hand, we obtain a qualitative analogy of the previous equivalence. Indeed, we characterize the absolute continuity of $\omega_L$ with respect to $\mu$ in terms of local $L^2(\mu)$ estimates of the truncated conical square function for any bounded null solution of $L$. This is also equivalent to the finiteness $\mu$-almost everywhere of the truncated conical square function for any bounded null solution of $L$.

Abstract:Let Λ be an isolated non-trivial transitive set of a C 1 generic diffeomorphism f ∈ Diff( M ). We show that the space of invariant measures supported on Λ coincides with the space of accumulation measures of time averages on one orbit. Moreover, the set of points having this property is residual in Λ (which implies that the set of irregular + points is also residual in Λ). As an application, we show that the non-uniform hyperbolicity of irregular + points in Λ with totally 0 measure (resp., the non-uniform hyperbolicity of a generic subset in Λ) determines the uniform hyperbolicity of Λ.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{F}_d(\mathbb{P}^n)$ be the space of all singular holomorphic foliations by curves on $\mathbb{P}^n$ ($n \geq 2$) with degree $d \geq 1.$ We show that there is subset $\mathcal{S}_d(\mathbb{P}^n)$ of $\mathcal{F}_d(\mathbb{P}^n)$ with full Lebesgue measure with the following properties: 1. for every $\mathcal{F} \in \mathcal{S}_d(\mathbb{P}^n),$ all singular points of $\mathcal{F}$ are linearizable hyperbolic. 2. If, moreover, $d \geq 2,$ then every $\mathcal{F}$ does not possess any invariant algebraic curve.

Abstract:We prove a curvature-dimension criterion and obtain logarithmic Sobolev inequalities for generalised Cauchy measures with optimal weights and explicit constants. In the one-dimensional case, this constant is even optimal. From these inequalities, we derive concentration results, which allow concluding the case of the pathological dimension two.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence and properties of conformal measures on limit sets of (anti)holomorphic correspondences. We show that if the critical exponent satisfies $1\leq \delta_{\operatorname{crit}}(x) <+\infty,$ the correspondence $F$ is (relatively) hyperbolic on the limit set $\Lambda_+(x)$, and $\Lambda_+(x)$ is minimal, then $\Lambda_+(x)$ admits a non-atomic conformal measure for $F$ and the Hausdorff dimension of $\Lambda_+(x)$ is strictly less than 2. As a special case, this shows that for a parameter $a$ in the interior of a hyperbolic component of the modular Mandelbrot set, the limit set of the Bullett--Penrose correspondence $F_a$ has a non-atomic conformal measure and its Hausdorff dimension is strictly less than 2. The same results hold for the LLMM correspondences, under some extra assumptions on its defining function $f$.

Abstract:For an invariant probability measure for the Gauss map, almost all numbers are Diophantine if the log of the partial quotent function is integrable. We show that with respect to a ``Renyi measure'' for the Gauss map with the log of the partial quotent function non-integrable, almost all numbers are Liouville. We also exhibit Gauss-invariant, ergodic measures with arbitrary irrationality exponent. The proofs are via the ``extravagance'' of positive, stationary, stochastic processes. In addition, we prove a Khinchin-type theorem for Diophantine approximation with respect to ``weak Renyi measures''.

Abstract:In this article we consider the two-dimensional incompressible Euler equations and give a sufficient condition on Gaussian measures of jointly independent Fourier coefficients supported on $H^{\sigma}(\mathbb{T}^2)$ ($\sigma>3$) such that these measures are not invariant (in vorticity form). We show that this condition holds on an open and dense set in suitable topologies (and so is generic in a Baire category sense) and give some explicit examples of Gaussian measures which are not invariant. We also pose a few related conjectures which we believe to be approachable.

Abstract:Given a non-flat S-unimodal interval map f, we show that there exists C which only depends on the order of the critical point c such that if |Df n (f(c))|≥C for all n sufficiently large, then f admits an absolutely continuous invariant probability measure (acip). As part of the proof we show that if the quotients of successive intervals of the principal nest of f are sufficiently small, then f admits an acip. As a special case, any S-unimodal map with critical order ℓ<2+ɛ having no central returns possesses an acip. These results imply that the summability assumptions in the theorems of Nowicki & van Strien [21] and Martens & Nowicki [17] can be weakened considerably.

Abstract:Nonnegative measures that are solutions to a transport equation with continuous coefficients have been widely studied. Because of the low regularity of the associated vector field, there is no natural flow since nonuniqueness of integral curves is the general rule. It has been known since the works by L. Ambrosio [2] and L. Ambrosio and G. Crippa [3, 4] that such measures can be described as a superposition of $\delta$-measures supported on integral curves. In this article, motivated by some observability questions for the wave equation, we are interested in such transport equations in the case of domains with boundary. Associated with a wave equation with C^1-coefficients are bicharacteristics that are integral curves of a continuous Hamiltonian vector field. We first study in details their behaviour in the presence of a boundary and define their natural generalisation that follows the laws of geometric optics. Then, we introduce a natural class of transport equations with a source term on the boundary, and we prove that any nonnegative measure satisfying such an equation has a union of maximal generalized bicharacteristics for support. This result is a weak form of the superposition principle in the presence of a boundary. With its companion article [7], this study completes the proof of wave observability generalizing the celebrated result of Bardos, Lebeau, and Rauch [5] in a low regularity framework where coefficients of the wave equation (and associated metric) are C^1 and the boundary and the manifold are C^2.

Abstract:We study the geometric properties of self-similar measures on intervals generated by iterated function systems (IFS's) that do not satisfy the open set condition (OSC) and have overlaps. The examples studied in this paper are the infinite Bernoulli convolution associated with the golden ratio, and a family of convolutions of Cantor-type measures. We make use of Strichartz second-order identities defined by auxiliary IFS's to compute measures of cells on different levels. These auxiliary IFS's do satisfy the OSC and are used to define new metrics. As an application, we obtain sub-Gaussian heat kernel estimates of the time changed Brownian motions with respect to these measures. The walk dimensions obtained under these new metrics are strictly greater than 2 and are closely related to the spectral dimension of fractal Laplacians.
Exotic B-series and S-series: algebraic structures and order conditions for invariant measure sampling

Abstract:B-series and generalizations are a powerful tool for the analysis of numerical integrators. An extension named exotic aromatic B-series was introduced to study the order conditions for sampling the invariant measure of ergodic SDEs. Introducing a new symmetry normalization coefficient, we analyze the algebraic structures related to exotic B-series and S-series. Precisely, we prove the relationship between the Grossman-Larson algebras over exotic and grafted forests and the corresponding duals to the Connes-Kreimer coalgebras and use it to study the natural composition laws on exotic S-series. Applying this algebraic framework to the derivation of order conditions for a class of stochastic Runge-Kutta methods, we present a multiplicative property that ensures some order conditions to be satisfied automatically.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the smoothness of the density function of absolutely continuous measures supported on random self-similar sets on the line. We show that the natural projection of a measure with symbolic local dimension greater than 1 at every point is absolutely continuous with Hölder continuous density almost surely. In particular, if the similarity dimension is greater than 1 then the random self-similar set on the line contains an interior point almost surely.

Abstract:In the setting of a doubling metric measure space $(X,d,\mu)$, we study regularity of sets whose characteristic functions belong to the Besov class $B^s_{1,1}(X)$. Following a result of Visintin in $\mathbb{R}^n$, we provide a sufficient condition for membership in $B^s_{1,1}(X)$ given in terms of the upper Minkowski codimension of the regularized boundary of the set. We also show that if the characteristic function of a set belongs to $B^s_{1,1}(X)$, then its measure theoretic boundary has codimension $s$ Hausdorff measure zero. To the best of our knowledge, this result is new even in the Euclidean setting. By studying certain fat Cantor sets, we provide examples illustrating that the converses of these results do not hold in general. In the doubling metric measure space setting, we then consider minimizers of the nonlocal perimeter functional $\mathcal{J}_\Omega^s$, extending the definition introduced by Caffarelli, Roquejoffre, and Savin in $\mathbb{R}^n$, and prove existence, uniform density, and porosity results for minimizers.
