Abstract:In a previous paper of the author, we establish a duality for the direct limit and the inverse limit of higher even $K$-groups over a $\mathbb{Z}_p^d$-extension. In this paper, we shall establish such a duality over certain non-commutative $p$-adic Lie extensions.

Abstract:Iwasawa first established a duality relating the direct limit and the inverse limit of class groups in a $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension, and this result has recently been extended to multiple $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions by many authors. In this paper, we establish an analogous duality for the direct limit and the inverse limit of higher even $K$-groups in a $\mathbb{Z}_p^d$-extension.

Abstract:Let $p$ be a fixed prime number, and $F$ a global function field of characteristic not equal to $p$. In this paper, we shall study the growth of the Sylow $p$-subgroups of the even $K$-groups in a $p$-adic Lie extension of $F$, where the $p$-adic Lie extension is assumed to contain the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $F$. We also establish a duality between the direct limit and inverse limit of the even $K$-groups.

Abstract:This paper completes the construction of $p$-adic $L$-functions for unitary groups. More precisely, in Harris, Li and Skinner [‘$p$-adic $L$-functions for unitary Shimura varieties. I. Construction of the Eisenstein measure’, Doc. Math.Extra Vol. (2006), 393–464 (electronic)], three of the authors proposed an approach to constructing such $p$-adic $L$-functions (Part I). Building on more recent results, including the first named author’s construction of Eisenstein measures and $p$-adic differential operators [Eischen, ‘A $p$-adic Eisenstein measure for unitary groups’, J. Reine Angew. Math.699 (2015), 111–142; ‘$p$-adic differential operators on automorphic forms on unitary groups’, Ann. Inst. Fourier (Grenoble)62(1) (2012), 177–243], Part II of the present paper provides the calculations of local $\unicode[STIX]{x1D701}$-integrals occurring in the Euler product (including at $p$). Part III of the present paper develops the formalism needed to pair Eisenstein measures with Hida families in the setting of the doubling method.
On the $p$-divisibility of even $K$-groups of the ring of integers of a cyclotomic field

Abstract:Let $k$ be a given positive odd integer and $p$ an odd prime. In this paper, we shall give a sufficient condition when a prime $p$ divides the order of the groups $K_{2k}(\mathbb{Z}[\zeta_m+\zeta_m^{-1}])$ and $K_{2k}(\mathbb{Z}[\zeta_m])$, where $\zeta_m$ is a primitive $m$th root of unity. When $F$ is a $p$-extension contained in $\mathbb{Q}(\zeta_l)$ for some prime $l$, we also establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the order of $K_{2(p-2)}(\mathcal{O}_F)$ to be divisible by $p$. This generalizes a previous result of Browkin which in turn has applications towards establishing the existence of infinitely many cyclic extensions of degree $p$ which are $(p, p-1)$-rational.

Abstract:In this paper, we describe the higher even $K$-groups of the ring of integers of a number field in terms of class groups of an appropriate extension of the number field in question. This is a natural extension of the previous collective works of Browkin, Keune and Kolster, where they considered the case of $K_2$. We then revisit the Kummer's criterion of totally real fields as generalized by Greenberg and Kida. In particular, we give an algebraic $K$-theoretical formulation of this criterion which we will prove using the algebraic $K$-theoretical results developed here.

Abstract:In their work on the period map and the dualizing sheaf for Lubin-Tate space, Gross and the second author wrote down an equivalence between the Spanier-Whitehead and Brown-Comenetz duals of certain type $n$-complexes in the $K(n)$-local category at large primes. In the culture of the time, these results were accessible to educated readers, but this seems no longer to be the case; therefore, in this note we give the details. Because we are at large primes, the key result is algebraic: in the Picard group of Lubin-Tate space, two important invertible sheaves become isomorphic modulo $p$.

The inverse limit topology and profinite descent on Picard groups in $K(n)$-local homotopy theory

Abstract:In this paper, we study profinite descent theory for Picard groups in $K(n)$-local homotopy theory through their inverse limit topology. Building upon Burklund's result on the multiplicative structures of generalized Moore spectra, we prove that the module category over a $K(n)$-local commutative ring spectrum is equivalent to the limit of its base changes by a tower of generalized Moore spectra of type $n$. As a result, the $K(n)$-local Picard groups are endowed with a natural inverse limit topology. This topology allows us to identify the entire $E_1$ and $E_2$-pages of a descent spectral sequence for Picard spaces of $K(n)$-local profinite Galois extensions. Our main examples are $K(n)$-local Picard groups of homotopy fixed points $E_n^{hG}$ of the Morava $E$-theory $E_n$ for all closed subgroups $G$ of the Morava stabilizer group $\mathbb{G}_n$. The $G=\mathbb{G}_n$ case has been studied by Heard and Mor. At height $1$, we compute Picard groups of $E_1^{hG}$ for all closed subgroups $G$ of $\mathbb{G}_1=\mathbb{Z}_p^\times$ at all primes as a Mackey functor.

On the $p$-adic limit of class numbers along a pro-$p$-extension

Abstract:Let $K/k$ be a pro-$p$-extension over a number field $k$ whose Galois group is finitely generated and $k_0\subseteq k_1\subseteq\cdots\subseteq k_n\subseteq\cdots$ an ascending sequence of intermediate fields of $K/k$ such that $k_n/k$ is normal, $[k_n:k]<\infty$ and $\bigcup_{n\ge 0} k_n=K$. We will show by using representation theory of finite groups that the non-$p$-part $h_n(p')$ of the class number of $k_n$ converges $p$-adically as $n\rightarrow\infty$, and the limit is independent to the choice of $k_n$'s. Also, in the case where $K/k$ is the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension over an abelian number field $k$, we will take an analytic approach and obtain certain enigmatic relationships between the $p$-adic limits of vaious arithmetic invariants along $K/k$, namely, the class number, the ratio of $p$-adic regulator and the square root of the discriminant, and the order of the algebraic $K_2$-group of the ring of integers.

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime. Let $f_1$ and $f_2$ be weight-two Hecke eigen-cuspforms with isomorphic residual Galois representations at $p$. Greenberg--Vatsal and Emerton--Pollack--Weston showed that if $p$ is a good ordinary prime for the two forms, the Iwasawa invariants of their $p$-primary Selmer groups and $p$-adic $L$-functions over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ are closely related. The goal of this article is to generalize these results to the anticyclotomic setting. More precisely, let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field where $p$ splits. Suppose that the generalized Heegner hypothesis holds with respect to both $(f_1,K)$ and $(f_2,K)$. We study relations between the Iwasawa invariants of the BDP Selmer groups and the BDP $p$-adic $L$-functions of $f_1$ and $f_2$.

A note on the cohomology of $p$-adic analytic group actions

Abstract:We prove that given an analytic action of a compact $p$-adic Lie group on a Banach space over a field of positive characteristic, one can detect either the simultaneous vanishing or the simultaneous finite-dimensionality of all of the continuous cohomology groups from the corresponding statement for the restriction to a pro-$p$ procyclic subgroup. We also formulate a conjecture generalizing this result, in which the base field is allowed to have mixed characteristic and the subgroup is allowed to be nilpotent. Finally, we formulate an analogous conjecture about Lie algebra cohomology and relate this to a theorem of Kostant.

Local duality theorems for commutative algebraic groups

Abstract:If k is an arbitrary field, we construct a category of k-1-motives in which every commutative algebraic k-group G has a dual object $G^{\vee}$. When k is a local field of arbitrary characteristic, we establish Pontryagin duality theorems that relate the fppf cohomology groups of G to the hypercohomology groups of the k-1-motive $G^{\vee}$. We also obtain a duality theorem for the second cohomology group of an arbitrary k-1-motive. These results have applications (to be discussed elsewhere) to certain extensions of Lichtenbaum-van Hamel duality to a class of non-smooth proper k-varieties.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the question of the complete faithfulness of the $p$-free quotient module of the dual Selmer groups of elliptic curves defined over a noncommutative $p$-adic Lie extension. Our question will refine previous questions on the complete faithfulness of dual Selmer groups. We also consider the question of the triviality of the central torsion submodules of these Iwasawa modules and we see that this latter question is intimately related to the former. We will also formulate and study analogous questions for the dual Selmer groups of Hida deformations. We then give positive answer to our questions, and establish "control theorem" results between the questions in certain cases.

Abstract:We show that the universal central extension of a direct limit of perfect Lie superalgebras L_i is (isomorphic to) the direct limit of the universal central extensions of L_i. As an application we describe the universal central extensions of some infinite rank Lie superalgebras.

Abstract:Over any smooth algebraic variety over a p-adic local field k, we construct the de Rham comparison isomorphisms for the étale cohomology with partial compact support of de Rham ℤ_p -local systems, and show that they are compatible with Poincaré duality and with the canonical morphisms among such cohomology. We deduce these results from their analogues for rigid analytic varieties that are Zariski open in some proper smooth rigid analytic varieties over k. In particular, we prove finiteness of étale cohomology with partial compact support of any ℤ_p -local systems, and establish the Poincaré duality for such cohomology after inverting p.

Abstract:For each prime $p$ and each positive integer $d$, we construct the first examples of second countable, topologically simple, $p$-adic Lie groups of dimension $d$ whose Lie algebras are abelian. This answers several questions of Glöckner and Caprace-Monod. The proof relies on a generalization of small cancellation methods that applies to central extensions of acylindrically hyperbolic groups.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a $p$-adic field, and let $K_\infty/K$ be a Galois extension that is almost totally ramified, and whose Galois group is a $p$-adic Lie group of dimension $1$. We prove that $K_\infty$ is not dense in $(\mathbf{B}_{\mathrm{dR}}^+ / \operatorname{Fil}^2 \mathbf{B}_{\mathrm{dR}}^+ )^{\operatorname{Gal}(\overline{K}/K_\infty)}$. Moreover, the restriction of $\theta$ to the closure of $K_\infty$ is injective, and its image via $\theta$ is the set of vectors of $\widehat{K}_\infty$ that are $C^1$ with zero derivative for the action of $\operatorname{Gal}(K_\infty/K)$. The main ingredient for proving these results is the construction of an explicit lattice of $\mathcal{O}_{K_\infty}$ that is commensurable with $\mathcal{O}_{K_\infty}^{d=0}$, where $d : \mathcal{O}_{K_\infty} \to \Omega_{\mathcal{O}_{K_\infty} / \mathcal{O}_K}$ is the differential.

Abstract:Abstract To understand the p -adic étale cohomology of a proper smooth variety over a p -adic field, Faltings compared it to the cohomology of his ringed topos, by the so-called Faltings’ main p -adic comparison theorem, and then deduced various comparisons with p -adic cohomologies originating from differential forms. In this article, we generalize the former to any proper and finitely presented morphism of coherent schemes over an absolute integral closure of $\mathbb {Z}_p$ (without any smoothness assumption) for torsion abelian étale sheaves (not necessarily finite locally constant). Our proof relies on our cohomological descent for Faltings’ ringed topos, using a variant of de Jong’s alteration theorem for morphisms of schemes due to Gabber–Illusie–Temkin to reduce to the relative case of proper log-smooth morphisms of log-smooth schemes over a complete discrete valuation ring proved by Abbes–Gros. A by-product of our cohomological descent is a new construction of Faltings’ comparison morphism, which does not use Achinger’s results on $K(\pi ,1)$ -schemes.

Sublinear Bilipschitz Equivalence and the Quasiisometric Classification of Solvable Lie Groups

Abstract:We prove a product theorem for sublinear bilipschitz equivalences which generalizes the classical work of Kapovich, Kleiner and Leeb on quasiisometries between product spaces. Independently we develop a new tool, based on a theorem of Cornulier on sublinear bilipschitz equivalences between solvable Lie groups, to evaluate the distortion of certain subgroups in central extensions. This is useful to provide lower bounds on Dehn functions. Building on work of Cornulier and Tessera, we compute the Dehn functions of all simply connected solvable Lie groups of exponential growth up to dimension $5$. We employ our product theorem to distinguish up to quasiisometry certain families among these groups which share the same dimension, cone-dimension and Dehn function. Finally, using a theorem of Peng together with our computations of cone-dimensions and Dehn functions, we establish the quasiisometric rigidity of the rank-two, five-dimensional solvable Lie group acting simply transitively by isometries on the horosphere in general position inside the product of three real hyperbolic planes.

Abstract:If $K$ is a compact Hausdorff space so that the Banach lattice $C(K)$ is isometrically lattice isomorphic to a dual of some Banach lattice, then $C(K)$ can be decomposed as the $\ell^\infty$-direct sum of the carriers of a maximal singular family of order continuous functionals on $C(K)$. In order to generalise this result to the vector lattice $C(X)$ of continuous, real valued functions on a realcompact space $X$, we consider direct and inverse limits in suitable categories of vector lattices. We develop a duality theory for such limits and apply this theory to show that $C(X)$ is lattice isomorphic to the order dual of some vector lattice $F$ if and only if $C(X)$ can be decomposed as the inverse limit of the carriers of all order continuous functionals on $C(X)$. In fact, we obtain a more general result: A Dedekind complete vector lattice $E$ is perfect if and only if it is lattice isomorphic to the inverse limit of the carriers of a suitable family of order continuous functionals on $E$. A number of other applications are presented, including a decomposition theorem for order dual spaces in terms of spaces of Radon measures.

Abstract:A $p$-Kähler structure on a complex manifold of complex dimension $n$ is given by a $d$-closed transverse real $(p,p)$-form. In the paper we study the existence of $p$-Kähler structures on compact quotients of simply connected Lie groups by discrete subgroups endowed with an invariant complex structure. In particular, we discuss the existence of $p$-Kähler structures on nilmanifolds, with a focus on the case $p =2$ and complex dimension $n = 4$. Moreover, we prove that a $(n-2)$-Kähler almost abelian solvmanifold of complex dimension $n\geq3$ has to be Kähler.
