Abstract:We study the wave front set of the solutions of the initial value problem for nonlinear Schrödinger equations via wave packet transform. We give an sufficient condition which assures that the solutions is in Sobolev space of order s in a given direction at a given time.

Abstract:This study is concerned with solitary wave solutions and the dynamic behavior of the (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear fractional Schrödinger system. By exploring the dynamic properties of the equilibrium levels to the corresponding Hamiltonian, the expressions of exact solutions of the above system are obtained, including solitary wave solutions, periodic wave solutions, singular periodic wave solutions, singular wave solutions, kink wave solutions, and anti-kink wave solutions. Moreover, the linear stability, geometric characteristics, and limiting behavior of these solutions to the nonlinear fractional Schrödinger system were investigated.

Abstract:We study the local behavior of weak solutions, with possible singularities, of nonlocal nonlinear equations. We first prove that sets of capacity zero are removable for weak solutions under certain integrability conditions. We then characterize the asymptotic behavior of singular solutions near an isolated singularity in terms of the fundamental solution.

Abstract:We derive several kinetic equations to model the large scale, low Fresnel number behavior of the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation with a rapidly fluctuating random potential. There are three types of kinetic equations the longitudinal, the transverse and the longitudinal with friction. For these nonlinear kinetic equations we address two problems: the rate of dispersion and the singularity formation. For the problem of dispersion, we show that the kinetic equations of the longitudinal type produce the cubic-in-time law, that the transverse type produce the quadratic-in-time law and that the one with friction produces the linear-in-time law for the variance prior to any singularity. For the problem of singularity, we show that the singularity and blow-up conditions in the transverse case remain the same as those for the homogeneous NLS equation with critical or supercritical self-focusing nonlinearity, but they have changed in the longitudinal case and in the frictional case due to the evolution of the Hamiltonian.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence and multiplicity of standing waves with prescribed ‐norm Schrödinger‐Poisson equations with general nonlinearities in : where and is superlinear and satisfies the monotonicity condition. To this end, we look for critical points of the following functional constrained on the ‐spheres , where . We consider the case where is unbounded from below on and establish the existence of critical points of on for sufficiently small and under some mild assumptions on . In addition, we show that there are infinitely many radial critical points of on when is odd and present a convergence property of as . Our results generalize some recent results in the literature.

Abstract:We give an exhaustive characterization of singular weak solutions for ordinary differential equations of the form $\ddot{u}\,u + \frac{1}{2}\dot{u}^2 + F'(u) =0$, where $F$ is an analytic function. Our motivation stems from the fact that in the context of hydrodynamics several prominent equations are reducible to an equation of this form upon passing to a moving frame. We construct peaked and cusped waves, fronts with finite-time decay and compact solitary waves. We prove that one cannot obtain peaked and compactly supported traveling waves for the same equation. In particular, a peaked traveling wave cannot have compact support and vice versa. To exemplify the approach we apply our results to the Camassa-Holm equation and the equation for surface waves of moderate amplitude, and show how the different types of singular solutions can be obtained varying the energy level of the corresponding planar Hamiltonian systems.

On coupled non-linear Schrödinger systems with singular source term

Abstract:This work studies a coupled non-linear Schrödinger system with a singular source term. First, we investigate the question of the local existence of solutions. Second, one proves the existence of global solutions which scatter in some Sobolev spaces. Finally, one establishes the existence of non-global solutions. The main difficulty here is to overcome the regularity problem in the non-linearity. Indeed, because of the singularity of the source term, the classical contraction method in the energy space fails in such a regime. So, this paper is to fill such a gap in the literature. The argument follows ideas in T. Cazenave and I. Naumkin ( Comm. Contemp. Math. , 19 (2017), 1650038). This consists to remark that the singularity problem is only near the origin. So, one needs to impose that the solution stays away from zero. This is not trivial, since there is no maximum principle for the Schrödinger equation. The existence of global solutions which scatter follows with the pseudo-conformal transformation via the existence of local solutions. Finally, the existence of non-global solutions follows with the classical variance method.

Abstract:This work focuses on the study of solitary wave solutions to a nonlocal, nonlinear Schr\"odinger system in $1$+$1$ dimensions with arbitrary nonlinearity parameter $\kappa$. Although the system we study here was first reported by Yang (Phys. Rev. E, 98 (2018), 042202) for the fully integrable case $\kappa=1$, we extend its considerations and offer criteria for soliton stability and instability as a function of $\kappa$. In particular, we show that for $\kappa <2$ the solutions are stable whereas for $\kappa >2$ they are subject to collapse or blowup. At the critical point of $\kappa=2$, there is a critical mass necessary for blowup or collapse. Furthermore, we show there is a simple one-component nonlocal Lagrangian governing the dynamics of the system which is amenable to a collective coordinate approximation. To that end, we introduce a trial wave function with two collective coordinates to study the small oscillations around the exact solution. We obtain analytical expressions for the small oscillation frequency for the width parameter in the collective coordinate approximation. We also discuss a four collective coordinate approximation which in turn breaks the symmetry of the exact solution by allowing for translational motion. The ensuing oscillations found in the latter case capture the response of the soliton to a small translation. Finally, our results are compared with numerical simulations of the system.

Abstract:We consider Schrödinger equations with variable coefficients and the harmonic potential. We suppose the perturbation is short-range type in the sense of [Nakamura 2004]. We characterize the wave front set of the solutions to the equation in terms of the classical scattering data and the propagator of the unperturbed harmonic oscillator. In particular, we give a "recurrence of singularities" type theorem for the propagation of the period $t=\pi$.

Abstract:We propose a new variational approach to finding multiple critical points for strongly indefinite problems without assuming the weak upper semicontinuity on the variational functionals. By this approach, we obtain the existence of infinitely many geometrically distinct solutions for a stationary periodic Schrödinger equation, in which the linear part is strongly indefinite and the nonlinear term is allowed to change sign in general ways.

Abstract:We study an initial-boundary value problem for a fractional wave equation of time distributed-order with a nonlinear source term. The coefficients of the second order differential operator are dependent on the spatial and time variables. We show the existence of a unique weak solution to the problem under low regularity assumptions on the data, which includes weakly singular solutions in the class of admissible problems. A similar result holds true for the fractional wave equation with Caputo fractional derivative.

Abstract:This is the first part of a two-paper series studying nonlinear Schrödinger equations with quasi-periodic initial data. In this paper, we consider the standard nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Under the assumption that the Fourier coefficients of the initial data obey a power-law upper bound, we establish local existence of a solution that retains quasi-periodicity in space with a slightly weaker Fourier decay. Moreover, the solution is shown to be unique within this class of quasi-periodic functions. In addition, for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with small nonlinearity, within the time scale, as the small parameter of nonlinearity tends to zero, we prove that the nonlinear solution converges asymptotically to the linear solution with respect to both the sup-norm $\|\cdot\|_{L_x^\infty(\mathbb R)}$ and the Sobolev-norm $\|\cdot\|_{H^s_x(\mathbb R)}$. The proof proceeds via a consideration of an associated infinite system of coupled ordinary differential equations for the Fourier coefficients and a combinatorial analysis of the resulting tree expansion of the coefficients. For this purpose, we introduce a Feynman diagram for the Picard iteration and $\ast^{[\cdot]}$ to denote the complex conjugate label.
