Abstract:We derive new identities involving zeros of the Bessel function $J_{\nu}$ and some related functions. These are special cases of more general identities obtained in this note, which might also be of interest.

Abstract:In this paper our aim is to present an elementary proof of an identity of Calogero concerning the zeros of Bessel functions of the first kind. Moreover, by using our elementary approach we present a new identity for the zeros of Bessel functions of the first kind, which in particular reduces to some other new identities. We also show that our method can be applied for the zeros of other special functions, like Struve functions of the first kind, and modified Bessel functions of the second kind.

Abstract:The positive zeros of Jν′′′(x) and Jν(n+1)(x) are studied by using classical analysis and the properties of Jν(x) . It is proved that Jν′′′(x) has a unique zero in specific intervals. Regarding Jν(n+1)(x) , it is proved that its positive zero jν,m(n+1) is an increasing function with respect to ν , for ν>n . Moreover, the first two Rayleigh sums for jν,m(n) are calculated. The obtained results extend and complement previously known results and also answer an open problem regarding the monotonicity of jν,m(n) . As a consequence of these results, a lower bound for jν,1(n+1) is deduced, as well as an inequality between jν,1(n+1) and jν,1(n) .

Abstract:The paper is devoted to (combinations of) Bessel cross-products that arise from oblique derivative boundary value problems for the Laplacian in a circular annulus. We show that like their Neumann-Laplacian counterpart (and unlike the Dirichlet-Laplacian), they possess two kinds of zeros: those that can be derived by McMahon series and diverge to infinity in the limit, and exceptional ones that remain finite. For both cases we find asymptotic expressions for a fixed oblique angle and vanishing thickness of the annulus. We further present plots of numerically computed zeros and discuss their behaviour when the oblique angle changes and the thickness remains fixed.

Abstract:We introduce a sequence of orthogonal polynomials whose associated moments are the Rayleigh-type sums, involving the zeros of the Bessel derivative $J_\nu'$ of order $\nu$. We also discuss the fundamental properties of those polynomials such as recurrence, orthogonality, etc. Consequently, we obtain a formula for the Hankel determinant, elements of which are chosen as the aforementioned Rayleigh-type sums. As an application, we complete the Hurwitz-type theorem for $J_\nu'$, which deals with the number of complex zeros of $J_\nu'$ depending on the range of $\nu$.

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, Volume 56, Issue 5, Page 6521-6550, October 2024. Reformulated uniform asymptotic expansions are derived for ordinary differential equations having a large parameter and a simple turning point. These involve Airy functions, but not their derivatives, unlike traditional asymptotic expansions. From these, asymptotic expansions are derived for the zeros of Bessel functions that are valid for large positive values of the order, uniformly for all the zeros. The coefficients in the expansions are explicitly given elementary functions, and similar expansions are derived for the zeros of the derivatives of Bessel functions.

Abstract:We prove explicit uniform two-sided bounds for the phase functions of Bessel functions and of their derivatives. As a consequence, we obtain new enclosures for the zeros of Bessel functions and their derivatives in terms of inverse values of some elementary functions. These bounds are valid, with a few exceptions, for all zeros and all Bessel functions with non-negative indices. We provide numerical evidence showing that our bounds either improve or closely match the best previously known ones.

Abstract:Mathematical functions, which often appear in mathematical analysis, are referred to as special functions and have been studied over hundreds of years. Many books and dictionaries are available that describe their properties and serve as a foundation of current science. In this paper, we find a new integral representation of the Whittaker function of the first kind and show a relevant summation formula for Kummer's confluent hypergeometric functions. We also perform the specifications of our identities to link to known and new results.

Abstract:Recently, we have applied the generalized Littlewood theorem concerning contour integrals of the logarithm of the analytical function to find the sums over inverse powers of zeros for the incomplete gamma and Riemann zeta functions, polygamma functions, and elliptical functions. Here, the same theorem is applied to study such sums for the zeros of the Hurwitz zeta function ζ(s,z), including the sum over the inverse first power of its appropriately defined non-trivial zeros. We also study some related properties of the Hurwitz zeta function zeros. In particular, we show that, for any natural N and small real ε, when z tends to n = 0, −1, −2... we can find at least N zeros of ζ(s,z) in the ε neighborhood of 0 for sufficiently small |z+n|, as well as one simple zero tending to 1, etc.

Abstract:For certain families of $L$-functions, we prove that if each $L$-function in the family has only real zeros in a fixed yet arbitrarily small neighborhood of $s=1$, then one may considerably improve upon the known results on Landau-Siegel zeros. Sarnak and the third author proved a similar result under much more restrictive hypotheses.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the zero loci of local systems of the form $deltaPi$, where $Pi$ is the period sheaf of the universal family of CY hypersurfaces in a suitable ambient space $X$, and $delta$ is a given differential operator on the space of sections $V^vee=Gamma(X,K_X^{-1})$. Using earlier results of three of the authors and their collaborators, we give several different descriptions of the zero locus of $deltaPi$. As applications, we prove that the locus is algebraic and in some cases, non-empty. We also give an explicit way to compute the polynomial defining equations of the locus in some cases. This description gives rise to a natural stratification to the zero locus.

Abstract:We study zeros distribution for meromorphic functions of the form $\sum\limits_n \dfrac{c_n}{(z-t_n)^2}$, where $\sum\limits_n \dfrac{|c_n|}{|t_n|^2} <\infty$. We prove an analog of the classical Keldysh theorem and discuss a relation between zero-free functions of this form and second order differential equtions with polynomial coefficients.

Abstract:We study zeroes of Gaussian analytic functions in a strip in the complex plane, with translation-invariant distribution. We prove that the horizontal limiting measure of the zeroes exists almost surely, and that it is non-random if and only if the spectral measure is continuous (or degenerate). In this case, the limiting measure is computed in terms of the spectral measure. We compare the behavior with Gaussian analytic functions with symmetry around the real axis. These results extend a work by Norbert Wiener.

Abstract:We combine the relative trace formula with analytic methods to obtain zero density estimate for $L$-functions in various families of automorphic representations for $\mathrm{GL}(m)$. Applications include strong bounds for the average analytic rank of these $L$-functions at the central point and average equidistribution results for the imaginary parts of the zeros.

Abstract:Via a generalization of the pseudospectral method for numerical solution of differential equations, a family of nonlinear algebraic identities satisfied by the zeros of a wide class of orthogonal polynomials is derived. The generalization is based on a modification of pseudospectral matrix representations of linear differential operators proposed in the paper, which allows these representations to depend on two, rather than one, sets of interpolation nodes. The identities hold for every polynomial family $\{p_\nu(x)\}_{\nu=0}^\infty$ orthogonal with respect to a measure supported on the real line that satisfies some standard assumptions, as long as the polynomials in the family satisfy differential equations $\mathcal{A} p_\nu(x) =q_\nu(x) p_\nu(x)$, where $\mathcal{A}$ is a linear differential operator and each $q_\nu(x)$ is a polynomial of degree at most $n_0 \in \mathbb{N}$; $n_0$ does not depend on $\nu$. The proposed identities generalize known identities for classical and Krall orthogonal polynomials, to the case of the nonclassical orthogonal polynomials that belong to the class described above. The generalized pseudospectral representations of the differential operator $\mathcal{A}$ for the case of the Sonin-Markov orthogonal polynomials, also known as generalized Hermite polynomials, are presented. The general result is illustrated by new algebraic relations satisfied by the zeros of the Sonin-Markov polynomials.
