Abstract:We visualize the identity p(n) = sum s(k) p(n-k)/n for the integer partition function p(n) involving the divisor function s, add comments on the history of visualizations of numbers, illustrate how different mathematical fields play together when proving lim p(n)^(1/n)=1 and introduce finite or infinite rings of partitions.

Abstract:Recently, Merca and Schmidt found some decompositions for the partition function $p(n)$ in terms of the classical Möbius function as well as Euler's totient. In this paper, we define a counting function $T_k^r(m)$ on the set of $n$-color partitions of $m$ for given positive integers $k, r$ and relate the function with the $n$-color partition function and other well-known arithmetic functions like the Möbius function, Liouville function, etc. and their divisor sums. Furthermore, we use a counting method of Erdös to obtain some counting theorems for $n$-color partitions that are analogous to those found by Andrews and Deutsch for the partition function.

Abstract:In this article, we study the arithmetic properties of the partition function $p_8(n)$, the number of 8-colour partitions of $n$. We prove several Ramanujan type congruences modulo higher powers of 2 for the function $p_8(n)$ by finding explicit formulas for the generating functions.

Abstract:In 1917, Hardy and Ramanujan obtained the asymptotic formula for the classical partition function $p(n)$. The classical partition function $p(n)$ has been extensively studied. Recently, Luca and Ralaivaosaona obtained the asymptotic formula for the square-root function. Many mathematicians have paid much attention to congruences on some special colored partition functions. In this paper, we investigate the general colored partition functions. Given positive integers $1=s_1<s_2<\dots <s_k$ and $\ell_1, \ell_2,\dots , \ell_k$. Let $g(\mathbf{s}, \mathbf{l}, n)$ be the number of $\ell$-colored partitions of $n$ with $\ell_i$ of the colors appearing only in multiplies of $s_i\ (1\le i\le k)$, where $\ell = \ell_1+\cdots +\ell_k$. By using the elementary method we obtain an asymptotic formula for the partition function $g(\mathbf{s}, \mathbf{l}, n)$ with an explicit error term.

Abstract:In this paper, we use the Lambert series generating function for Euler's totient function to introduce a new identity for the number of $1$'s in the partitions of $n$. A new expansion for Euler's partition function $p(n)$ is derived in this context. These surprising new results connect the famous classical totient function from multiplicative number theory to the additive theory of partitions.

Abstract:There is a well-known bijection between finite binary sequences and integer partitions. Sequences of length r correspond to partitions of perimeter r+1. Motivated by work on rational numbers in the Calkin-Wilf tree, we classify partitions whose corresponding binary sequence is a palindrome. We give a generating function that counts these partitions, and describe how to efficiently generate all of them. Atypically for partitions generating functions, we find an unusual significance to prime degrees. Specifically, we prove there are nontrivial palindrome partitions of n except when n=3 or n+1 is prime. We find an interesting new "branching diagram" for partitions, similar to Young's lattice, with an action of the Klein four group corresponding to natural operations on the binary sequences.

Abstract:Purpose Let p [1, r ; t ] be defined by ∑ n = 0 ∞ p [ 1 , r ; t ] ( n ) q n = ( E 1 E r ) t , where t is a non-zero rational number, r ≥ 1 is an integer and E r = ∏ n = 0 ∞ ( 1 − q r ( n + 1 ) ) for | q | < 1. The function p [1, r ; t ] ( n ) is the generalisation of the two-colour partition function p [1, r ;−1] ( n ). In this paper, the authors prove some new congruences modulo odd prime l by taking r = 5, 7, 11 and 13, and non-integral rational values of t . Design/methodology/approach Using q -series expansion/identities, the authors established general congruence modulo prime number for two-colour partition function. Findings In the paper, the authors study congruence properties of two-colour partition function for fractional values. The authors also give some particular cases as examples. Originality/value The partition functions for fractional value is studied in 2019 by Chan and Wang for Ramanujan's general partition function and then extended by Xia and Zhu in 2020. In 2021, Baruah and Das also proved some congruences related to fractional partition functions previously investigated by Chan and Wang. In this sequel, some congruences are proved for two-colour partitions in this paper. The results presented in the paper are original.
Some inequalities for $k$-colored partition functions

Abstract:Motivated by a partition inequality of Bessenrodt and Ono, we obtain analogous inequalities for $k$-colored partition functions $p_{-k}(n)$ for all $k\geq2$. This enables us to extend the $k$-colored partition function multiplicatively to a function on $k$-colored partitions, and characterize when it has a unique maximum. We conclude with one conjectural inequality that strengthens our results.

Abstract:In this work we introduce new combinatorial objects called $d$--fold partition diamonds, which generalize both the classical partition function and the partition diamonds of Andrews, Paule and Riese, and we set $r_d(n)$ to be their counting function. We also consider the Schmidt type $d$--fold partition diamonds, which have counting function $s_d(n).$ Using partition analysis, we then find the generating function for both, and connect the generating functions $\sum_{n= 0}^\infty s_d(n)q^n$ to Eulerian polynomials. This allows us to develop elementary proofs of infinitely many Ramanujan--like congruences satisfied by $s_d(n)$ for various values of $d$, including the following family: for all $d\geq 1$ and all $n\geq 0,$ $s_d(2n+1) \equiv 0 \pmod{2^d}.$

Partition theorems and the Chinese remainder theorem

Abstract:The famous partition theorem of Euler states that partitions of $n$ into distinct parts are equinumerous with partitions of $n$ into odd parts. Another famous partition theorem due to MacMahon states that the number of partitions of $n$ with all parts repeated at least once equals the number of partitions of $n$ where all parts must be even or congruent to $3 \pmod 6$. These partition theorems were further extended by Glaisher, Andrews, Subbarao, Nyirenda and Mugwangwavari. In this paper, we utilize the Chinese remainder theorem to prove a comprehensive partition theorem that encompasses all existing partition theorems. We also give a natural generalization of Euler's theorem based on a special complete residue system. Furthermore, we establish interesting congruence connections between the partition function $p(n)$ and related partition functions.

Abstract:Given a partition $\lambda$, we write $e_j(\lambda)$ for the $j^{\textrm{th}}$ elementary symmetric polynomial $e_j$ evaluated at the parts of $\lambda$ and $e_jp_A(n)$ for the sum of $e_j(\lambda)$ as $\lambda$ ranges over the set of partitions of $n$ with parts in $A$. For $e_jp_A(n)$, we prove analogs of the classical formula for the partition function, $p(n)=1/n \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\sigma_1(n-k)p(k)$, where $\sigma_1$ is the sum of divisors function. We prove several congruences for $e_2p_4(n)$, the sum of $e_2$ over the set of partitions of $n$ into four parts. Define the function $\textrm{pre}_j(\lambda)$ to be the multiset of monomials in $e_j(\lambda)$, which is itself a partition. If $\mathcal A$ is a set of partitions, we define $\textrm{pre}_j(\mathcal A)$ to be the set of partitions $\textrm{pre}_j(\lambda)$ as $\lambda$ ranges over $\mathcal A$. If $\mathcal P(n)$ is the set of all partitions of $n$, we conjecture that the number of odd partitions in $\textrm{pre}_2(\mathcal P(n))$ is at least the number of distinct partitions. We prove some results about $\textrm{pre}_2(\mathcal B(n))$, where $\mathcal B(n)$ is the set of binary partitions of $n$. We conclude with conjectures on the log-concavity of functions related to $e_jp(n)$, the sum of $e_j(\lambda)$ for all $\lambda\in \mathcal P(n)$.

Abstract:Let $\overline{p}_o(n)$ denote the number of overpartitions of $n$ into odd parts. The partition function $\overline{p}_o(n)$ has been the subject of many recent studies where many explicit Ramanujan-like congruences were discovered. In this paper, we provide three linear recurrence relation for $\overline{p}_o(n)$. Several connections with partitions into parts not congruent to $2 \pmod 4$, overpartitions and partitions into distinct parts are presented in this context.

In this paper, we will prove that for $n\ges 222$ , $$\left| {\matrix{ {p(n)} & {p(n + 1)} & {p(n + 2)} \cr {p(n-1)} & {p(n)} & {p(n + 1)} \cr {p(n-2)} & {p(n-1)} & {p(n)} \cr } } \right| > 0.{\rm }$$ As a corollary, we deduce that p ( n ) satisfies the double Turán inequalities, that is, for $n\ges 222$ , $$(p(n)^2-p(n-1)p(n+1))^2-(p(n-1)^2-p(n-2)p(n))(p(n+1)^2-p(n)p(n+2))>0.$$

Abstract:Recently, Merca and Schmidt proved a number of identities relating partitions of an integer with two classic number-theoretic functions, namely the Möbius function and Euler's totient function. Their demonstrations were mainly algebraic. We give bijective proofs of some of these results. Our main tools are the concept of a rooted partition and an operation which we call the direct sum, which combines a partition and a rooted partition.

Some identities on Lin-Peng-Toh's partition statistic of $k$-colored partitions

Abstract:Recently, Andrews proved two conjectures on a partition statistic introduced by Beck. Very recently, Chern established some results on weighted rank and crank moments and proved many Andrews-Beck type congruences. Motivated by Andrews and Chern's work, Lin, Peng and To introduced a partition statistic of $k$-colored partitions $NB_k(r,m,n)$ which counts the total number of parts of $\pi^{(1)}$ in each $k$-colored partition $\pi$ of $n$ with ${\rm crank}_k(\pi)$ congruent to $r$ modulo $m$ and proved a number of congruences for $NB_k(r,m,n)$. In this paper, we prove some identities on $NB_k(r,m,n)$ which are analogous to Ramanujan's ``most beautiful identity". Moreover, those identities imply some congruences proved by Lin, Peng and Toh.

An infinite family of internal congruences modulo powers of 2 for partitions into odd parts with designated summands

Abstract:In 2002, Andrews, Lewis, and Lovejoy introduced the combinatorial objects which they called \emph{partitions with designated summands}. These are built by taking unrestricted integer partitions and designating exactly one of each occurrence of a part. In that same work, Andrews, Lewis, and Lovejoy also studied such partitions wherein all parts must be odd, and they denoted the number of such partitions of size $n$ by the function $PDO(n)$. Since then, numerous authors have proven a variety of divisibility properties satisfied by $PDO(n)$. Recently, the second author proved the following internal congruences satisfied by $PDO(n)$: For all $n\geq 0$, \begin{align*} PDO(4n) &\equiv PDO(n) \pmod{4},\\ PDO(16n) &\equiv PDO(4n) \pmod{8}. \end{align*} In this work, we significantly extend these internal congruence results by proving the following new infinite family of congruences: For all $k\geq 0$ and all $n\geq 0$, $$PDO(2^{2k+3}n) \equiv PDO(2^{2k+1}n) \pmod{2^{2k+3}}.$$ We utilize several classical tools to prove this family, including generating function dissections via the unitizing operator of degree two, various modular relations and recurrences involving a Hauptmodul on the classical modular curve $X_0(6)$, and an induction argument which provides the final step in proving the necessary divisibilities. It is notable that the construction of each $2$-dissection slice of our generating function bears an entirely different nature to those studied in the past literature.

A generalization of conjugation of integer partitions

Abstract:We exhibit, for any positive integer parameter $s$, an involution on the set of integer partitions of $n$. These involutions show the joint symmetry of the distributions of the following two statistics. The first counts the number of parts of a partition divisible by $s$, whereas the second counts the number of cells in the Ferrers diagram of a partition whose leg length is zero and whose arm length has remainder $s-1$ when dividing by $s$. In particular, for $s=1$ this involution is just conjugation. Additionally, we provide explicit expressions for the bivariate generating functions. Our primary motivation to construct these involutions is that we know only of two other "natural" bijections on integer partitions of a given size, one of which is the Glaisher-Franklin bijection sending the set of parts divisible by $s$, each divided by $s$, to the set of parts occurring at least $s$ times.
