Abstract:A novel Bethe ansatz scheme is proposed to investigate the exact physical properties of an integrable anisotropic quantum spin chain with competing interactions among the nearest, next nearest neighbor and chiral three spin couplings, where the boundary condition is the twisted one. The eigenvalue of the transfer matrix is characterized by its zero roots instead of the traditional Bethe roots. Based on the exact solution, the conserved momentum and charge operators of this U(1)-symmetry broken system are obtained. The ground state energy and density of rapidities are calculated. It is found that there exist three kinds of elementary excitations and the corresponding dispersion relations are obtained, which gives a different picture from that with periodic boundary condition.

Abstract:We develop a new method to compute the exact overlaps between integrable boundary states and on-shell Bethe states for integrable spin chains. Our method is based on the coordinate Bethe Ansatz and does not rely on the "rotation trick" of the corresponding lattice model. It leads to a rigorous proof of the factorized overlap formulas in a number of cases, some of which were inaccessible to earlier methods. As concrete examples, we consider the compact XXX and XXZ Heisenberg spin chains, and the non-compact $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ spin chain.

Abstract:A novel Bethe ansatz scheme is proposed to calculate physical properties of quantum integrable systems without U(1) symmetry. As an example, the antiperiodic XXZ spin chain, a typical correlated many-body system embedded in a topological manifold, is examined. Conserved “momentum” and “charge” operators are constructed despite the absence of translational invariance and U(1) symmetry. The ground state energy and elementary excitations are derived exactly. It is found that two intrinsic fractional (one half) zero modes accounting for the double degeneracy exist in the eigenstates. The elementary excitations show quite a different picture from that of a periodic chain. This method can be applied to other quantum integrable models either with or without U(1) symmetry.

Abstract:The Motzkin spin chain is a spin-$1$ frustration-free model introduced by Shor & Movassagh. The ground state is constructed by mapping random walks on the upper half of the square lattice to spin configurations. It has unusually large entanglement entropy [quantum fluctuations]. The ground state of the Motzkin chain can be analytically described by the Motzkin paths. There is no analytical description of the excited states. The model is not solvable. We simplify the model by removing one of the local equivalence moves of the Motzkin paths. The system becomes integrable [similar to the XXX spin chain]. We call it free Motzkin chain. From the point of view of quantum integrability, the model is special since its $R$-matrix does not have crossing unitarity. We solve the periodic free Motzkin chain by generalizing the functional Bethe Ansatz method. We construct a $T-Q$ relation with an additional parameter to formulate the energy spectrum. This new parameter is related to the roots of unity and can be described by the Möbius function in number theory. We observe further patterns of number theory.

Abstract:We investigate entanglement properties in dimerized and frustrated spin-one models by applying the concept of negativity. On the basis of the relation between negativity and correlators, negativities are numerically calculated. We study the effects of dimerization and frustration on entanglement. We also consider the case of finite temperature, and determine the threshold temperature before which the thermal state is doomed to be entangled.

Abstract:Invoking a quantum dressing procedure as well as the representation theory of twisted Yangians we derive a number of summation formulas for the overlap between integrable matrix product states and Bethe eigenstates which involve only eigenvalues of fused transfer matrices and which are valid in the presence of inhomogeneities as well as twists. Although the method is general we specialize to the $SO(6)$ spin chain for which integrable matrix product states corresponding to evaluation representations of the twisted Yangian $Y^+(4)$ encode the information about one-point functions of the D3-D5 domain wall version of ${\cal N}=4$ SYM. Considering the untwisted and homogeneous limit of our summation formulas we finally fill the last gap in the analytical understanding of the overlap formula for the $SO(6$) sector of the D3-D5 domain wall system.

Abstract:The graded off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method is proposed to study supersymmetric quantum integrable models (i.e., quantum integrable models associated with superalgebras). As an example, the exact solutions of the <math>SU(2|2)</math> vertex model with both periodic and generic open boundary conditions are constructed. By generalizing the fusion techniques to the supersymmetric case, a closed set of operator product identities about the transfer matrices are derived, which allows us to give the eigenvalues in terms of homogeneous or inhomogeneous <math>T−Q</math> relations. The method and results provided in this paper can be generalized to other high rank supersymmetric quantum integrable models.

Abstract:The Su–Schrieffer–Heeger (SSH) model perhaps is the easiest and the most basic model for topological excitations. Many variations and extensions of the SSH model have been proposed and explored to better understand both fundamental and novel aspects of topological physics. The SSH4 model has been proposed theoretically as an extended SSH model with higher dimension (the internal dimension changes from two to four). It has been proposed that the winding number in this system can be determined through a higher-dimensional extension of the mean chiral displacement measurement, however, this has not yet been verified in experiment. Here, we report the realization of this model with ultracold atoms in a momentum lattice. We verify the winding number through measurement of the mean chiral displacement in a system with higher internal dimension, we map out the topological phase transition in this system, and we confirm the topological edge state by observation of the quench dynamics when atoms are initially prepared at the system boundary.

Abstract:We continue the survey initiated in [1] to explore the Bethe/Gauge correspondence between supersymmetric SO/Sp gauge theories in 2d/3d/4d and open spin chain with integrable boundaries. We collect the known Bethe ansatz equations of different types of spin chains with general boundaries that have been analyzed in the literature, and compare them with the vacua equations of the quiver gauge theories. It seems that not all the vacua equations of quiver gauge theory with BCD-type gauge groups can be realized as some known Bethe ansatz equations of integrable spin chain models.

Abstract:The exact elementary excitations in a typical U(1) symmetry broken quantum integrable system, that is the twisted J1-J2 spin chain with nearest-neighbor, next nearest neighbor and chiral three spin interactions, are studied. The main technique is that we quantify the energy spectrum of the system by the zero roots of transfer matrix instead of the traditional Bethe roots. From the numerical calculation and singularity analysis, we obtain the patterns of zero roots. Based on them, we analytically obtain the ground state energy and the elementary excitations in the thermodynamic limit. We find that the system also exhibits the nearly degenerate states in the regime of $\eta\in \mathbb{R}$, where the nearest-neighbor couplings among the z-direction are ferromagnetic. More careful study shows that the competing of interactions can induce the gapless low-lying excitations and quantum phase transition in the antiferromagnetic regime with $\eta\in \mathbb{R}+i\pi$.

Abstract:Chern number is a crucial invariant for characterizing topological feature of two-dimensional quantum systems. Real-space Chern number allows us to extract topological properties of systems without involving translational symmetry, and hence plays an important role in investigating topological systems with disorder or impurity. On the other hand, the twisted boundary condition (TBC) can also be used to define the Chern number in the absence of translational symmetry. Based on the perturbative nature of the TBC under appropriate gauges, we derive the two real-space formulae of Chern number (namely the non-commutative Chern number and the Bott index formula), which are numerically confirmed for the Chern insulator and the quantum spin Hall insulator. Our results not only establish the equivalence between the real-space and TBC formula of the Chern number, but also provide concrete and instructive examples for deriving the real-space topological invariant through the twisted boundary condition.

Abstract:We study the exact physical quantities of a competing spin chain which contains many interesting and meaningful couplings including the nearest neighbor, next nearest neighbor, chiral three spins, Dzyloshinsky-Moriya interactions and unparallel boundary magnetic fields in the thermodynamic limit. We obtain the density of zero roots, surface energies and elementary excitations in different regimes of model parameters. Due to the competition of various interactions, the surface energy and excited spectrum show many different pictures from those of the Heisenberg spin chain.

Abstract:By using a set of gauge transformations (face-vertex correspondence relations), the XXZ spin chain with both transverse and longitudinal magnetic boundary fields is studied. The corresponding reflection boundary matrices therefore have non-diagonal elements. The Bethe ansatz equations, the eigenvalues and the eigenstates of the transfer matrix and the Hamiltonian of the system are obtained in the framework of algebraic Bethe ansatz method. The ground states for different couplings are derived.

Abstract:Topological Quantum Field Theories (TQFTs) pertinent to some emergent low energy phenomena of condensed matter lattice models in 2+1 and 3+1 dimensions are explored. Many of our TQFTs are highly-interacting without free quadratic analogs. Some of our bosonic TQFTs can be regarded as the continuum field theory formulation of Dijkgraaf-Witten twisted discrete gauge theories. Other bosonic TQFTs beyond the Dijkgraaf-Witten description and all fermionic TQFTs (namely the spin TQFTs) are either higher-form gauge theories where particles must have strings attached, or fermionic discrete gauge theories obtained by gauging the fermionic Symmetry-Protected Topological states (SPTs). We analytically calculate both the Abelian and non-Abelian braiding statistics data of anyonic particle and string excitations in these theories, where the statistics data can one-to-one characterize the underlying topological orders of TQFTs. Namely, we derive path integral expectation values of links formed by line and surface operators in these TQFTs. The acquired link invariants include not only the familiar Aharonov-Bohm linking number, but also Milnor triple linking number in 3 dimensions, triple and quadruple linking numbers of surfaces, and intersection number of surfaces in 4 dimensions. We also construct new spin TQFTs with the corresponding knot/link invariants of Arf(-Brown-Kervaire), Sato-Levine and others. We propose a new relation between the fermionic SPT partition function and the Rokhlin invariant. As an example, we can use these invariants and other physical observables, including ground state degeneracy, reduced modular S-xY and T-xY matrices, and the partition function on RP3 manifold, to identify all v is an element of Z(8) classes of 2+1 dimensional gauged Z(2)-Ising-symmetric Z(2)(f)-fermionic Topological Superconductors (realized by stacking v layers of a pair of chiral and anti-chiral p-wave superconductors [p+ip and p-ip], where boundary supports non-chiral Majorana-Weyl modes) with continuum spin-TQFTs. Abstract:A bstract We generalize the nested off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method to study the quantum chain associated with the twisted $$ {D}_3^{(2)} $$ D 3 2 algebra (or the $$ {D}_3^{(2)} $$ D 3 2 model) with either periodic or integrable open boundary conditions. We obtain the intrinsic operator product identities among the fused transfer matrices and find a way to close the recursive fusion relations, which makes it possible to determinate eigenvalues of transfer matrices with an arbitrary anisotropic parameter η . Based on them, and the asymptotic behaviors and values at certain points, we construct eigenvalues of transfer matrices in terms of homogeneous T − Q relations for the periodic case and inhomogeneous ones for the open case with some off-diagonal boundary reflections. The associated Bethe ansatz equations are also given. The method and results in this paper can be generalized to the $$ {D}_{n+1}^{(2)} $$ D n + 1 2 model and other high rank integrable models.

Abstract:We study the exact solutions of quantum integrable model associated with the C n Lie algebra, with either a periodic or an open one with off-diagonal boundary reflections, by generalizing the nested off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method. Taking the C 3 as an example we demonstrate how the generalized method works. We give the fusion structures of the model and provide a way to close fusion processes. Based on the resulted operator product identities among fused transfer matrices and some necessary additional constraints such as asymptotic behaviors and relations at some special points, we obtain the eigenvalues of transfer matrices and parameterize them as homogeneous T − Q relations in the periodic case or inhomogeneous ones in the open case. We also give the exact solutions of the C n model with an off-diagonal open boundary condition. The method and results in this paper can be generalized to other high rank integrable models associated with other Lie algebras.

Abstract:Extending the method proposed in [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1109.5524" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1109.5524">arXiv:1109.5524</a>], we derive QQ-relations (functional relations among Baxter Q-functions) and T-functions (eigenvalues of transfer matrices) for fusion vertex models associated with the twisted quantum affine superalgebras $U_{q}(gl(2r+1|2s)^{(2)})$, $U_{q}(gl(2r|2s+1)^{(2)})$, $U_{q}(gl(2r|2s)^{(2)})$, $U_{q}(osp(2r|2s)^{(2)})$ and the untwisted quantum affine orthosymplectic superalgebras $U_{q}(osp(2r+1|2s)^{(1)})$ and $U_{q}(osp(2r|2s)^{(1)})$ (and their Yangian counterparts, $Y(osp(2r+1|2s))$ and $Y(osp(2r|2s))$) as reductions (a kind of folding) of those associated with $U_{q}(gl(M|N)^{(1)})$. In particular, we reproduce previously proposed generating functions (difference operators) of the T-functions for the symmetric or anti-symmetric representations, and tableau sum expressions for more general representations for orthosymplectic superalgebras [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0911.5393" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0911.5393">arXiv:0911.5393</a>,<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0911.5390" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0911.5390">arXiv:0911.5390</a>], and obtain Wronskian-type expressions (analogues of Weyl-type character formulas) for them. T-functions for spinorial representations are related to reductions of those for asymptotic limits of typical representations of $U_{q}(gl(M|N)^{(1)})$.
