Abstract:The radial time-independent Schrödinger equation is solved for the diatomic molecules: H2, LiH, HCl, CO, VH, CrH, CuLi, TiC, NiC, and ScN using the recently developed Nikiforov-Uvarov Functional Analysis (NUFA) method. A modified Morse potential is considered and the Pekeris approximation is used to accommodate the centrifugal term. Accurate energy eigenvalues and eigenfunction solutions are obtained for vibrational ($\mathit{n}$) and rotational ($\ell$) states. For H2, LiH, HCl, and CO, excellent agreement is observed between present values and literature, provided that the Pekeris approximation remains valid. For other molecules, a collection of low and high-lying states not found in literature are reported. The NUFA method is a simple, general and accurate approach that may be applied to other interatomic potentials.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to calculate the exact energy levels of diatomic molecules in the rotation - corrected Morse potential field. Specifically, the authors used the recently developed Nikiforov - Uvarov Functional Analysis (NUFA) method to solve the radially time - independent Schrödinger equation in order to obtain the energy levels and wave functions for different vibrational states \(n\) and rotational states \(\ell\). By introducing the Pekeris approximation to deal with the centrifugal term, the authors were able to obtain analytical or semi - analytical solutions for these energy levels and wave functions. ### Main research contents: 1. **Method introduction**: - Use the NUFA method to solve the Schrödinger equation under the effective potential including the centrifugal term. - Make the equation analytically solvable by dealing with the centrifugal term through the Pekeris approximation. 2. **Potential model**: - Consider a modified rotational Morse potential \(V(r) = D_e \left( e^{-2\alpha(r - r_e)/r_e}-2e^{-\alpha(r - r_e)/r_e} \right)\). - Introduce the centrifugal term \(\frac{\hbar^2 \ell (\ell + 1)}{2\mu r^2}\) to form the effective potential \(V_{\text{eff}}(r)\). 3. **Analytical solution**: - Through the variable transformation \(z = e^{-\alpha(r - r_e)/r_e}\), transform the Schrödinger equation into a form that can be analytically solved. - Solve the energy eigenvalues \(E_{n\ell}\) and wave functions \(\psi_{n\ell}(r)\). 4. **Result verification**: - For widely studied molecules such as \(H_2\), \(LiH\), \(HCl\), and \(CO\), the calculated results were compared with the numerical values in the literature, showing good consistency. - For less - reported molecules such as \(VH\), \(CrH\), \(CuLi\), \(TiC\), \(NiC\), and \(ScN\), new energy - level data were provided. ### Main contributions: - Provide a simple, general, and accurate method to calculate the energy levels and wave functions of diatomic molecules in the rotation - corrected Morse potential field. - Verify the effectiveness of the NUFA method in low - energy and high - energy states, especially when the Pekeris approximation is applicable. - Provide a reference for the research of other potential models. Through these studies, the authors not only verified the accuracy of the NUFA method but also provided a powerful tool for the spectroscopic study of diatomic molecules.
