Abstract:In this note we prove that $H^*(\text{BSO}(4);\mathbb{Q})$ injects into the group cohomology of $\text{Diff}^+(S^{3})$ with rational coefficients. The proof is based on an idea of Nariman who proved that the monomials in the Euler and Pontrjagin classes are nontrivial in $H^*(\text{BDiff}_+^{\delta}(S^{2n-1});\mathbb{Q})$.

Abstract:Morita showed that for each power of the Euler class, there are examples of flat $\mathbb{S}^1$-bundles for which the power of the Euler class does not vanish. Haefliger asked if the same holds for flat odd-dimensional sphere bundles. In this paper, for a manifold $M$ with a free torus action, we prove that certain $M$-bundles are cobordant to a flat $M$-bundle and as a consequence, we answer Haefliger's question. We show that the powers of the Euler class and Pontryagin classes $p_i$ for $i\leq n-1$ are all non-trivial in $H^*(\text{BDiff}^{\delta}_+(\mathbb{S}^{2n-1});\mathbb{Q})$. In the appendix, Nils Prigge corrects a claim by Haefliger about the vanishing of certain classes in the smooth group cohomology of $\text{Diff}_+(\mathbb{S}^3)$.

A Note on Spherical Bundles on K3 Surfaces

Abstract:Some questions are posted at the end of Chapter 16 of Huybrechts' book 'Lectures on K3 Surfaces', concerning the bounded derived category of a K3 surface $D^b(S)$. Let $E$ be a spherical object in $D^b(S)$. The first question asks if there always exists a non-zero object $F$ satisfying RHom$(E,F)=0$. Further, let $E$ be a spherical bundle. The second question is whether $E$ is always semistable with respect to some polarization on $S$ and if there is a way to `count' spherical bundles with a fixed Mukai vector. In this note, we provide (partial) answers to these two questions. In the appendix, Genki Ouchi shows that any spherical twist associated to an $n$-spherical object on a smooth projective $n$-dimensional variety is not conjugate to a standard autoequivalence.

Abstract:We construct an invariant for non-spin 4-manifolds by using 2-torsion cohomology classes of moduli spaces of instantons on SO(3)-bundles. The invariant is an SO(3)-version of Fintushel-Stern's 2-torsion instanton invariant. We show that this SO(3)-torsion invariant is non-trivial for $2CP^2 # -CP^2$, while it is known that any known invariant of $2CP^2 # -CP^2$ coming from the Seiberg-Witten theory is trivial since $2CP^2 # -CP^2$ has a positive scalar curvature metric.

Abstract:We prove that if the $n$th $\ell^2$-Betti number of a group is non-zero then its $n$th BNSR invariant over $\mathbb{Q}$ is empty, under suitable finiteness conditions. We apply this to answer questions of Friedl--Vidussi and Llosa Isenrich--Py about aspherical Kähler manifolds, to verify some cases of the Singer Conjecture, and to compute certain BNSR invariants of poly-free and poly-surface groups.

Abstract:Given a 4-manifold with a homologically trivial and locally-linear cyclic group action, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of equivariant bundles. The conditions are derived from the twisted signature formula and are in the form of congruence relations between the fixed point data and the isotropy representations.

Abstract:A Calabi-Yau 4-fold of Camere-Garbagnati-Mongardi is a crepant resolution of the quotient of a hyperkähler 4-fold by an antisymplectic involution. In this paper, we compare two different types of holomorphic torsion invariants; one is the BCOV invariant of the Calabi-Yau 4-fold of Camere-Garbagnati-Mongardi, and the other is the invariant of the corresponding $K3^{[2]}$-type manifold with involution introduced by the author in the preceding papers. As an application, in some special cases, we show that the BCOV invariant of those Calabi-Yau 4-folds is expressed as the Petersson norm of a certain Borcherds product.

Our work is in the spirit of the Axelrod-Singer papers, generalizes some of their results, and furnishes a new setting for the purely topological implications of their work.

Abstract:The algebra of differential invariants under $SA_3(\mathbb{R})$ of generic parabolic surfaces $S^2 \subset \mathbb{R}^3$ with nonvanishing Pocchiola $4^{\text{th}}$ invariant $W$ is shown to be generated, through invariant differentiations, by only one other invariant, $M$, of order $5$, having $57$ differential monomials. The proof is based on Fels-Olver's recurrence formulas, pulled back to the parabolic jet bundles.

New invariants of involutions from Seiberg-Witten Floer theory

Abstract:We study equivariant Seiberg-Witten Floer theory of rational homology $3$-spheres in the special case where the group action is given by an involution. The case of involutions deserves special attention because we can couple the involution to the charge conjugation symmetry of Seiberg-Witten theory. This leads to new Floer-theoretic invariants which we study and apply in a variety of applications. In particular, we construct a series of delta-invariants $\delta^E_*, \delta^R_*, \delta^S_*$ which are the equivariant equivalents of the Ozsváth-Szabó $d$-invariant. The delta-invariants come in three types: equivariant, Real and spin depending on the type of the spin$^c$-structure involved. The delta-invariants satisfy many useful properties, including a Froyshov-type inequality for equivariant cobordisms. We compute the delta-invariants in a wide range of examples including: equivariant plumbings, branched double covers of knots and equivariant Dehn surgery. We also consider various applications including obstructions to extending involutions over bounding $4$-manifolds, non-smoothable involutions on $4$-manifolds with boundary, equivariant embeddings of $3$-manifolds in $4$-manifolds and non-orientable surfaces bounding knots.

Abstract:This paper is the second in a series of three devoted to the smooth classification of simply connected elliptic surfaces. In this paper, we study the case where one of the multiple fibers has even multiplicity, and describe the moduli space of stable rank two vector bundles with the appropriate first Chern class needed to calculate Donaldson polynomials. The analysis is in many ways parallel to the analysis in the case of vector bundles of trivial determinant, but the asymmetry between the multiplicities also appears in the moduli space. In this way, the first coefficient of an appropriate Donaldson polynomial determines one of the multiplicities.
An Invariant for Transverse Coassociative 4-Folds

Abstract:We define a $\mathbb{Z}_2$-valued invariant for pairs of transverse coassociative submanifolds of a $G_2$-manifold when they are simply-connected and spin. We prove that there is a canonical generalized connected sum of two transverse coassociatives whose diffeomorphism type is determined by this invariant. When one of these coassociatives is graphical over the other, we show that this invariant is analogous to the invariant associated to the zero-circles of a near-symplectic form on an oriented 4-manifold.

Abstract:For a general cubic fourfold $X \subset \mathbb{P}^5$, we compute the Hodge numbers of the locus $S \subset F$ of lines of second type. We also give an upper bound of 6 for the degree of irrationality of the Fano scheme of lines of any smooth cubic hypersurface.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the classification of equivariant principal bundles over the 2-sphere. Isotropy representations provide tools for understanding the classification of equivariant principal bundles. We consider a $\Gamma$-equivariant principal $G$-bundle over $S^2$ with structural group $G$ a compact connected Lie group, and $\Gamma \subset SO(3)$ a finite group acting linearly on $S^2.$ We prove that the equivariant 1-skeleton $X \subset S^2$ over the singular set can be classified by means of representations of their isotropy representations. Then, we show that equivariant principal G-bundles over the $S^2 $ can be classified by a $\Gamma$-fixed set of homotopy classes of maps, and the underlying $G$-bundle $\xi$ over $S^2$ can be determined by first Chern class.

Abstract:In this paper we prove the vanishing of the bounded cohomology of $\text{Diff}^r_+(S^n)$ with real coefficients when $n\geq 4$ and $1\leq r\leq \infty$. This answers the question raised in \cite{FNS24} for $\geq 4$ dimensional spheres.

Classification of the invariants of foliations by curves of low degree on the three-dimensional projective space

Abstract:We study foliations by curves on the three-dimensional projective space with no isolated singularities, which is equivalent to assuming that the conormal sheaf is locally free. We provide a classification of the topological and algebraic invariants of the conormal sheaves and singular schemes for such foliations by curves, up to degree 3. In particular, we prove that foliations by curves of degree 1 or 2 are contained in a pencil of planes or are Legendrian, and are given by the complete intersection of two codimension one distributions. Furthermore, we prove that the conormal sheaf of a foliation by curves of degree 3 with reduced singular scheme either splits as a sum of line bundles or is an instanton bundle. For degree larger than 3, we focus on two classes of foliations by curves, namely Legendrian foliations and those whose conormal sheaf is a twisted null-correlation bundle. We give characterizations of such foliations, describe their singular schemes and their moduli spaces.

Abstract:A symplectic manifold (M,ω) is called (symplectically) uniruledif there is a nonzero genus zero GW invariant involving a point constraint. Weprove that symplectic uniruledness is invariant under symplectic blow-up andblow-down. This theorem follows from a general Relative/Absolute correspondencefor a symplectic manifold together with a symplectic submanifold. A directconsequence is that symplectic uniruledness is a symplectic birationalinvariant. Here we use Guillemin and Sternberg's notion of cobordism as thesymplectic analogue of the birational equivalence.
New cohomological invariants of foliations

Abstract:Given a smooth foliation on a closed manifold, basic forms are differential forms that can be expressed locally in terms of the transverse variables. The space of basic forms yields a differential complex, because the exterior derivative fixes this set. The basic cohomology is the cohomology of this complex, and this has been studied extensively. Given a Riemannian metric, the adjoint of the exterior derivative maps the orthogonal complement of the basic forms to itself, and we call the resulting cohomology the "antibasic cohomology". Although these groups are defined using the metric, the dimensions of the antibasic cohomology groups are invariant under diffeomorphism and metric changes. If the underlying foliation is Riemannian, the groups are foliated homotopy invariants that are independent of basic cohomology and ordinary cohomology of the manifold. For this class of foliations we use the codifferential on antibasic forms to obtain the corresponding Laplace operator, develop its analytic properties, and prove a Hodge theorem. We then find some topological and geometric properties that impose restrictions on the antibasic Betti numbers.

Abstract:Using reduced Gromov–Witten theory, we define new invariants which capture the enumerative geometry of curves on holomorphic symplectic 4-folds. The invariants are analogous to the BPS counts of Gopakumar and Vafa for Calabi–Yau 3-folds, Klemm and Pandharipande for Calabi–Yau 4-folds, and Pandharipande and Zinger for Calabi–Yau 5-folds. We conjecture that our invariants are integers and give a sheaf-theoretic interpretation in terms of reduced 4-dimensional Donaldson–Thomas invariants of one-dimensional stable sheaves. We check our conjectures for the product of two K 3 surfaces and for the cotangent bundle of . Modulo the conjectural holomorphic anomaly equation, we compute our invariants also for the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K 3 surface. This yields a conjectural formula for the number of isolated genus 2 curves of minimal degree on a very general hyperkähler 4-fold of -type. The formula may be viewed as a 4-dimensional analogue of the classical Yau–Zaslow formula concerning counts of rational curves on K 3 surfaces. In the course of our computations, we also derive a new closed formula for the Fujiki constants of the Chern classes of tangent bundles of both Hilbert schemes of points on K 3 surfaces and generalized Kummer varieties.

Abstract:In this short note, we provide an alternative proof of a notable theorem by Narasimhan and Ramanan. The theorem states that the moduli space of $S$-equivalence classes of semistable rank $2$ vector bundles over a curve $X$ of genus $2$ with trivial determinant is isomorphic to $\mathbb{P}^3$. Our proof relies on a criterion by Bauer and Szemberg, which characterizes projective spaces among smooth Fano varieties using Seshadri constants.
