Abstract:We construct indefinite Einstein solvmanifolds that are standard, but not of pseudo-Iwasawa type. Thus, the underlying Lie algebras take the form $\mathfrak{g}\rtimes_D\mathbb{R}$, where $\mathfrak{g}$ is a nilpotent Lie algebra and $D$ is a nonsymmetric derivation. Considering nonsymmetric derivations has the consequence that $\mathfrak{g}$ is not a nilsoliton, but satisfies a more general condition. Our construction is based on the notion of nondiagonal triple on a nice diagram. We present an algorithm to classify nondiagonal triples and the associated Einstein metrics. With the use of a computer, we obtain all solutions up to dimension $5$, and all solutions in dimension $\leq9$ that satisfy an additional technical restriction. By comparing curvatures, we show that the Einstein solvmanifolds of dimension $\leq 5$ that we obtain by our construction are not isometric to a standard extension of a nilsoliton.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a new version of the modified Futaki invariant for a test configuration associated to the soliton action on a Fano manifold. Our version will naturally come from toric test configurations defined by Donaldson for toric manifolds. As an application, we show that the modified K-energy is proper for toric invariant Kähler potentials on a toric Fano manifold.

Abstract:We construct Einstein metrics of non-positive scalar curvature on certain solid torus bundles over a Fano Kahler-Einstein manifold. We show, among other things, that the negative Einstein metrics are conformally compact, and the Ricci-flat metrics have slower-than-Euclidean volume growth and quadratic curvature decay. Also we construct positive Einstein metrics on certain 3-sphere bundles over a Fano Kahler-Einstein manifold. We classify the homeomorphism and diffeomorphism types of the total spaces when the base is the complex projective plane.

Inhomogeneous deformations of Einstein solvmanifolds

Abstract:For each non-flat, unimodular Ricci soliton solvmanifold $(\mathsf{S}_0,g_0)$, we construct a one-parameter family of complete, expanding, gradient Ricci solitons that admit a cohomogeneity one isometric action by $\mathsf{S}_0$. The orbits of this action are hypersurfaces homothetic to $(\mathsf{S}_0,g_0)$. These metrics are asymptotic at one end to an Einstein solvmanifold. In the one-parameter family, exactly one metric is Einstein, and exactly one has orbits that are isometric to $(\mathsf{S}_0,g_0)$.

Abstract:An Einstein nilradical is a nilpotent Lie algebra, which can be the nilradical of a metric Einstein solvable Lie algebra. The classification of Riemannian Einstein solvmanifolds (possibly, of all noncompact homogeneous Einstein spaces) can be reduced to determining, which nilpotent Lie algebras are Einstein nilradicals and to finding, for every Einstein nilradical, its Einstein metric solvable extension. For every nilpotent Lie algebra, we construct an (essentially unique) derivation, the pre-Einstein derivation, the solvable extension by which may carry an Einstein inner product. Using the pre-Einstein derivation, we then give a variational characterization of Einstein nilradicals. As an application, we prove an easy-to-check convex geometry condition for a nilpotent Lie algebra with a nice basis to be an Einstein nilradical and also show that a typical two-step nilpotent Lie algebra is an Einstein nilradical.

Einstein-type metrics and generalized Ricci solitons on weak $f$-K-contact manifolds

Abstract:A weak metric $f$-structure $(f,Q,\xi_i,\eta^i,g)\ (i=1,\ldots,s)$, generalizes the metric $f$-structure on a smooth manifold, i.e., the complex structure on the contact distribution is replaced with a nonsingular skew-symmetric tensor. We study geometry of a weak $f$-K-contact structure, which is a weak $f$-contact structure, whose characteristic vector fields are Killing. We show that $\ker f$ of a weak $f$-contact manifold defines a $\mathfrak{g}$-foliation with an abelian Lie algebra. Then we characterize weak $f$-K-contact manifolds among all weak metric $f$-manifolds by the property known for $f$-K-contact manifolds, and find when a Riemannian manifold endowed with a set of orthonormal Killing vector fields is a weak $f$-K-contact manifold. We show that for $s>1$, an Einstein weak $f$-K-contact manifold is Ricci flat, then find sufficient conditions for a weak $f$-K-contact manifold with parallel Ricci tensor or with a generalized gradient Ricci soliton structure to be Ricci flat or a quasi Einstein manifold. We prove positive definiteness of the Jacobi operators in the characteristic directions and use this to deform a weak $f$-K-contact structure to an $f$-K-contact structure. We define an $\eta$-Ricci soliton and $\eta$-Einstein structures on a weak metric $f$-manifold (which for $s=1$, give the well-known structures on contact metric manifolds) and find sufficient conditions for a compact weak $f$-K-contact manifold with an $\eta$-Ricci soliton structure of constant scalar curvature to be $\eta$-Einstein.

Abstract:This paper aims to classify a certain type of three-dimensional complete non-Sasakian contact manifold with specific properties, namely and admitting Ricci–Bourguignon solitons. In the case of constant , the paper proves that if the potential vector field of the Ricci–Bourguignon soliton is orthogonal to the Reeb vector field, then the manifold is either Einstein or locally isometric to E (1, 1). Under a similar hypothesis, the paper shows that a -contact metric manifold is locally isometric to E (1, 1). Finally, the paper considers the scenario where the potential vector is pointwise collinear with the Reeb vector field and presents some results.

Abstract:We introduce a systematic method to produce left-invariant, non-Ricci-flat Einstein metrics of indefinite signature on nice nilpotent Lie groups. On a nice nilpotent Lie group, we give a simple algebraic characterization of non-Ricci-flat left-invariant Einstein metrics in both the class of metrics for which the nice basis is orthogonal and a more general class associated to order two permutations of the nice basis. We obtain classifications in dimension 8 and, under the assumption that the root matrix is surjective, dimension 9; moreover, we prove that Einstein nilpotent Lie groups of nonzero scalar curvature exist in every dimension $\geq 8$.

Abstract:An almost Einstein manifold satisfies equations which are a slight weakening of the Einstein equations; Einstein metrics, Poincare-Einstein metrics, and compactifications of certain Ricci-flat asymptotically locally Euclidean structures are special cases. The governing equation is a conformally invariant overdetermined PDE on a function. Away from the zeros of this the almost Einstein structure is Einstein, while the zero set gives a scale singularity set which may be viewed as a conformal infinity for the Einstein metric. In this article we give a classification of the possible scale singularity spaces and derive geometric results which explicitly relate the intrinsic conformal geometry of these to the conformal structure of the ambient almost Einstein manifold. Classes of examples are constructed. A compatible generalisation of the constant scalar curvature condition is also developed. This includes almost Einstein as a special case, and when its curvature is suitably negative, is closely linked to the notion of an asymptotically hyperbolic structure.

Einstein metrics on homogeneous superspaces

Abstract:This paper initiates the study of the Einstein equation on homogeneous supermanifolds. First, we produce explicit curvature formulas for graded Riemannian metrics on these spaces. Next, we present a construction of homogeneous supermanifolds by means of Dynkin diagrams, resembling the construction of generalised flag manifolds in classical (non-super) theory. We describe the Einstein metrics on several classes of spaces obtained through this approach. Our results provide examples of compact homogeneous supermanifolds on which the Einstein equation has no solutions, discrete families of solutions, and continuous families of Ricci-flat solutions among invariant metrics. These examples demonstrate that the finiteness conjecture from classical homogeneous geometry fails on supermanifolds, and challenge the intuition furnished by Bochner's vanishing theorem.

Abstract:The only known examples of noncompact Einstein homogeneous spaces are standard solvmanifolds (special solvable Lie groups endowed with a left invariant metric), and according to a long standing conjecture, they might be all. The classification of Einstein solvmanifolds is equivalent to the one of Einstein nilradicals, i.e. nilpotent Lie algebras which are nilradicals of the Lie algebras of Einstein solvmanifolds. Up to now, there have been found very few examples of graded nilpotent Lie algebras that can not be Einstein nilradicals. In particular, in each dimension, there are only finitely many known. We exhibit in the present paper two curves of pairwise non-isomorphic 9-dimensional 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras which are not Einstein nilradicals.

Abstract:We consider 4-dimensional spacetime manifolds that are piecewise Lorentzian, where the Lorentzian components of the manifold are separated by codimension-one planes (spacelike or timelike) on which the metric is degenerate. Such manifolds are of interest because they enlarge the smooth and nonsingular solution space of the Einstein equations. Planes of degeneracy that are perpendicular to each other can exist simultaneously. We describe various solutions of this type to the vacuum equations $G_{\mu\nu}=0$ and $G_{\mu\nu}+\Lambda g_{\mu\nu}=0$, and to $G_{\mu\nu}= 8\pi G T_{\mu\nu}$ for a perfect fluid. Novel examples include static gravitational lumps of finite curvature and a spacetime that responds to a cosmological constant via oscillations in time and/or space. A spacelike degeneracy plane can be used to avoid the big bang singularity, as we have further described elsewhere.

Abstract:This article carries out the investigation of a three-dimensional Riemannian manifold $N^3$ endowed with a semi-symmetric type non-metric connection. Firstly, we construct a non-trivial example to prove the existence of a semi-symmetric type non-metric connection on $N^{3}$. It is established that a $N^3$ with the semi-symmetric type non-metric connection, whose metric is a gradient Ricci soliton, is a manifold of constant sectional curvature with respect to the semi-symmetric type non-metric connection. Moreover, we prove that if the Riemannian metric of $N^3$ with the semi-symmetric type non-metric connection is a gradient Yamabe soliton, then either $N^{3}$ is a manifold of constant scalar curvature or the gradient Yamabe soliton is trivial with respect to the semi-symmetric type non-metric connection. We also characterize the manifold $N^3$ with a semi-symmetric type non-metric connection whose metrics are Einstein solitons and $m$-quasi Einstein solitons of gradient type, respectively.

Abstract:We study some properties of a $3$-dimensional manifold with a diagonal Riemannian metric as an almost $\eta$-Ricci soliton from the following points of view: under certain assumptions, we determine the potential vector field if $\eta$ is given; we get constraints on the metric when the potential vector field has a particular expression; we compute the defining functions of the soliton when both the potential vector field and the $1$-form are prescribed. Moreover, we find conditions for the manifold to be flat. Based on the theoretical results, we provide examples.

Abstract:As part of a programme to classify quasi-Einstein metrics $(M,g,X)$ on closed manifolds and near-horizon geometries of extreme black holes, we study such spaces when the vector field $X$ is divergence-free but not identically zero. This condition is satisfied by left-invariant quasi-Einstein metrics on compact homogeneous spaces (including the near-horizon geometry of an extreme Myers-Perry black hole with equal angular momenta in two distinct planes), and on certain bundles over Kähler-Einstein manifolds. We find that these spaces exhibit a mild form of rigidity: they always admit a one-parameter group of isometries generated by $X$. Further geometrical and topological restrictions are also obtained.
