Abstract:Let G be a finite group and let ψ(G) denote the sum of element orders of G. It is well-known that the maximum value of φ on the set of groups of order n, where n is a positive integer, will occur at the cyclic group Cn. For nilpotent groups, we prove a natural generalization of this result, obtained by replacing the element orders of G with the element orders relative to a certain subgroup H of G. Abstract:The author was recently able to provide a cohomological interpretation of Tate's Riemann-Roch formula for number fields using some new harmonic analysis objects, ghost-spaces. When trying to investigate these objects in general, we realized the importance of functions and measures on locally compact abelian groups that are both positive and positive-definite at the same time. It looks like this class of functions and measures was not systematically studied before. The goal of this paper is to partially fill in this gap. We answer some of the natural questions involving these functions and measures, especially those that satisfy some extra integrability conditions. We also study some operations and constructions involving these functions and measures. There are several very interesting open questions, that we are only able to point out at this moment. In particular, the structure of the cone of such functions is not clear even when the group is just $\R.$

Abstract:Let $\chi$ be an irreducible character of a group $G.$ We denote the sum of the codegrees of the irreducible characters of $G$ by $S_c(G)=\sum_{\chi\in {\rm Irr}(G)}{\rm cod}(\chi).$ We consider the question if $S_c(G)\leq S_c(C_n)$ is true for any finite group $G,$ where $n=|G|$ and $C_n$ is a cyclic group of order $n.$ We show this inequality holds for many classes of groups. In particular, we provide an affirmative answer for any finite group whose order is divisible by up to 99 primes. However, we show that the question does not hold true in all cases, by evidence of a counterexample.

Abstract:The Chermak-Delgado lattice of a finite group $G$ is a self-dual sublattice of the subgroup lattice of $G$. In this paper, we focus on finite groups whose Chermak-Delgado lattice is a subgroup lattice of an elementary abelian $p$-group. We prove that such groups are nilpotent of class $2$. We also prove that, for any elementary abelian $p$-group $E$, there exists a finite group $G$ such that the Chermak-Delgado lattice of $G$ is a subgroup lattice of $E$.

Abstract:In this note we study countable subgroups of the full group of a measure preserving equivalence relation. We provide various constraints on the group structure, the nature of the action, and on the measure of fixed point sets, that imply that the subgroup topology is not discrete. We mention various conjectures about discrete subgroups of full groups.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a connected semisimple real algebraic group and $\Gamma<G$ be its Zariski dense discrete subgroup. We prove that if $\Gamma\backslash G$ admits any finite Bowen-Margulis-Sullivan measure, then $\Gamma$ is virtually a product of higher rank lattices and discrete subgroups of rank one factors of $G$. This may be viewed as a measure-theoretic analogue of classification of convex cocompact actions by Kleiner-Leeb and Quint, which was conjectured by Corlette in 1994. The key ingredients in our proof are the product structure of leafwise measures and the high entropy method of Einsiedler-Katok-Lindenstrauss. In a companion paper jointly with Edwards and Oh, we use this result to show that the bottom of the $L^2$ spectrum has no atom in any infinite volume quotient of a higher rank simple algebraic group.

Abstract:Let G be a real reductive group, and let chi be a character of a reductive subgroup H of G. We construct chi-invariant linear functionals on certain cohomologically induced representations of G, and we show that these linear functionals do not vanish on the bottom layers. Applying this construction, we prove two Archimedean nonvanishing hypotheses which are vital to the arithmetic study of special values of certain L-functions via modular symbols.

Abstract:In this note, we prove that for every integer $d\geq 2$ which is not a prime power, there exists a finite solvable group $G$ such that $d\mid |G|$, $\pi(G)=\pi(d)$ and $G$ has no subgroup of order $d$. We also introduce the CLT-degree of a finite group and answer two questions about it.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a connected semisimple real algebraic group. For any Zariski dense Anosov subgroup $\Gamma <G$, we show that a $\Gamma$-conformal measure is supported on the limit set of $\Gamma$ if and only if its "dimension" is $\Gamma$-critical. This implies the uniqueness of a $\Gamma$-conformal measure for each critical dimension. We deduce this from a higher rank analogue of the Hopf-Tsuji-Sullivan dichotomy for the maximal diagonal action. Other applications include an analogue of the Ahlfors measure conjecture for Anosov subgroups.

Abstract:For a finite group $G$ and an irreducible complex character $\chi$ of $G$, the codegree of $\chi$ is defined by $\textrm{cod}(\chi)=|G:\textrm{ker}(\chi)|/\chi(1)$, where $\textrm{ker}(\chi)$ is the kernel of $\chi$. In this paper, we show that if $H$ is a finite simple exceptional group of Lie type or a projective special linear group and $G$ is any finite group such that the character codegree sets of $G$ and $H$ coincide, then $G$ and $H$ are isomorphic.

Abstract:We introduce the Solecki submeasure $\sigma(A)=\inf_F\sup_{x,y\in G}|F\cap xAy|/|F|$ and its left and right modifications on a group $G$, and study the interplay between the Solecki submeasure and the Haar measure on compact topological groups. Also we show that the right Solecki density on a countable amenable group coincides with the upper Banach density $d^*$ which allows us to generalize some fundamental results of Bogoliuboff, Folner, Cotlar and Ricabarra, Ellis and Keynes about difference sets and Jin, Beiglbock, Bergelson and Fish about the sumsets to the class of all amenable groups.

Abstract:We prove two results on some special generators of finite simple groups and use them to prove that every non-abelian finite simple group $S$ admits a non-congruence presentation (as conjectured in [CLT24]), and that if $S$ has a non-trivial Schur multiplier, then it admits a smooth cover (as conjectured in [CFLZ]).

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{G}$ be a locally compact Hausdorff group in which every element is of finite order, and let $P(\mathcal{G})$ denote the class of all regular probability measures on $\mathcal{G}$. In this note, it is observed that a charecterisation of algebraically regular elements in certain subsemigroups of $P(\mathcal{G})$, Theorem 4.1 of \cite{MNN} for compact $\mathcal{G}$ remains true for locally compact $\mathcal{G}$.

Abstract:Let $\chi$ be an irreducible character of a group $G,$ and $S_c(G)=\sum_{\chi\in {\rm Irr}(G)}{\rm cod}(\chi)$ be the sum of the codegrees of the irreducible characters of $G.$ Write ${\rm fcod} (G)=\frac{S_c(G)}{|G|}.$ We aim to explore the structure of finite groups in terms of ${\rm fcod} (G).$ On the other hand, we determine the lower bound of $S_c(G)$ for nonsolvable groups and prove that if $G$ is nonsolvable, then $S_c(G)\geq S_c(A_5)=68,$ with equality if and only if $G\cong A_5.$ Additionally, we show that there is a solvable group so that it has the codegree sum as $A_5.$

Abstract:Let $\X$ be a class of finite groups closed under taking the subgroups, homomorphic images and extensions. By $\D_\X$ denote the class of finite groups $G$ in which every two $\X$-ma\-xi\-mal subgroups are conjugate. In the paper, the following statement is proven. Let $A$ be a normal subgroup of a finite group $G$. Then \centerline{$G\in\D_\X$ if and only if $A\in \D_\X$ and $G/A\in \D_\X$.} This statement implies that the $\X$-ma\-xi\-mal subgroups are conjugate if and only if the so called $\X$-sub\-ma\-xi\-mal subgroups are conjugate. Thus we obtain an affirmative solution to a problem posed by H.Wielandt in 1964.

Abstract:In this paper we consider two functions related to the arithmetic and geometric means of element orders of a finite group, showing that certain lower bounds on such functions strongly affect the group structure. In particular, for every prime p , we prove a sufficient condition for a finite group to be p -nilpotent, that is, a group whose elements of p′ -order form a normal subgroup. Moreover, we characterize finite cyclic groups with prescribed number of prime divisors.
