Abstract:Let $\Omega$ be a compact subset of $\mathbb{C}$ and let $A$ be a unital simple, separable $C^*$-algebra with stable rank one, real rank zero and strict comparison. We show that, given a Cu-morphism $\alpha:{\rm Cu}(C(\Omega))\to {\rm Cu}(A)$ with $\alpha(\langle \mathds{1}_{\Omega}\rangle)\leq \langle 1_A\rangle$, there exists a homomorphism $\phi: C(\Omega)\to A$ such that ${\rm Cu}(\phi)=\alpha$ and $\phi$ is unique up to approximate unitary equivalence. We also give classification results for maps from a large class of $C^*$-algebras to $A$ in terms of the Cuntz semigroup.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about the classification problem of homomorphisms from the continuous function algebra \(C(\Omega)\) to a specific type of \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\). Specifically, the paper focuses on how to classify these homomorphisms by the Cuntz semigroup when \(A\) is a simple separable \(C^*\)-algebra with stable rank one, real rank zero and strict comparison property. ### Background and Motivation In the study of \(C^*\)-algebras, the Cuntz semigroup is an important invariant, which is closely related to Elliott's \(C^*\)-algebra classification program. The Cuntz semigroup was initially defined by the equivalence classes of positive elements in matrix algebras and was later extended to an ordered semigroup on countably - generated Hilbert modules. The Cuntz semigroup has been successfully used to classify certain categories of \(C^*\)-algebras and the mappings between them. ### Research Objectives The main objective of the paper is to study the classification problem of homomorphisms from \(C(\Omega)\) to \(A\), where \(\Omega\) is a compact subset of the complex plane and \(A\) is a simple separable \(C^*\)-algebra with stable rank one, real rank zero and strict comparison property. Specifically, the authors attempt to prove that given a Cuntz semigroup homomorphism \(\alpha: Cu(C(\Omega))\to Cu(A)\) satisfying \(\alpha(\langle 1_\Omega\rangle)\leq\langle 1_A\rangle\), there exists a homomorphism \(\phi: C(\Omega)\to A\) such that \(Cu(\phi)=\alpha\), and \(\phi\) is unique in the sense of approximate unitary equivalence. ### Main Results 1. **Existence**: For a given Cuntz semigroup homomorphism \(\alpha\), there exists a homomorphism \(\phi\) such that \(Cu(\phi)=\alpha\). 2. **Uniqueness**: Such a homomorphism \(\phi\) is unique in the sense of approximate unitary equivalence. 3. **Classification Result**: Classify the homomorphisms from \(C(\Omega)\) to \(A\) by the Cuntz semigroup. ### Methods The authors use the properties of the Cuntz semigroup, especially the weak cancellation property and the strict comparison property, to construct and classify these homomorphisms. They also utilize spectral information to relate these homomorphisms to normal elements and apply the results of Hu and Lin to establish uniqueness. ### Applications These results are not only of great significance for the theoretical study of \(C^*\)-algebras, but may also find applications in other mathematical fields, such as operator algebras and non - commutative geometry. In conclusion, this paper provides a new method to classify homomorphisms from \(C(\Omega)\) to a specific type of \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\) by the Cuntz semigroup, which is of great significance for in - depth understanding of the structure and properties of \(C^*\)-algebras.
