Abstract:We present a discussion of the periodicity in imaginary time of maximally extended black hole spacetimes without reference to Euclidean manifolds. As motivation, we first demonstrate our approach for the Rindler geometry in flat space before then applying it for the case of Schwarzschild time in the maximally extended Kruskal geometry. One notable advantage of our approach is that it can be utilized in the Kerr case, again without reference to a Euclidean manifold, and without complexifying the angular momentum parameter, $a$. One unusual feature of our application in the Kerr case is that, even for the purely Lorentzian geometry, it is developed in terms of explicitly complex coordinates which are associated with distinct families of $\alpha-$surfaces. Moreover, coordinatization of these gives a single set of coordinates which cover the entire geometry outside the inner horizon.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### The problems the paper attempts to solve This paper aims to explore the periodicity of imaginary time in the maximal extension of black - hole spacetime without referring to Euclidean manifolds. Specifically, the author hopes to show how to uniformly handle global, analytic and "Hermitian" properties in static and rotating black - hole spacetimes by analyzing α - surfaces and global coordinate systems, thereby deriving the periodicity of imaginary time and the imaginary displacement of angular variables without making substitutions such as \(a\rightarrow ia'\) or explicitly requiring the absence of conical singularities. ### Main research objects and methods 1. **Research objects**: - Black - hole spacetime, especially the Schwarzschild and Kerr solutions. - α - surfaces: These are 2 - dimensional complex, completely null, and completely geodesic surfaces in the complexified manifold, related to the principal null geodesics. 2. **Methods**: - **Rindler geometry**: By analyzing the light - like geodesics in 2 - dimensional Rindler spacetime, show how to handle the singularities near the horizon. - **Kruskal extension of Schwarzschild spacetime**: Use light - like geodesics to construct a new coordinate system so that the metric remains regular at the horizon. - **Kerr spacetime**: Introduce complex scalar fields \(\hat{u}, \hat{v}, \hat{w}, \hat{z}\), define a new coordinate system, make it adapt to the principal null geodesics, and derive the periodicity of imaginary time and the imaginary displacement of angular variables. ### Key results 1. **Rindler geometry**: - By introducing new coordinates \((\tilde{u}, \tilde{v})\), the periodicity of imaginary time \(t\), \(\beta=\frac{2\pi}{\alpha}\) is shown. 2. **Schwarzschild spacetime**: - By introducing new coordinates \((\tilde{u}, \tilde{v})\), the periodicity of imaginary time \(t\), \(\beta = \frac{2\pi}{\kappa}\) is shown. 3. **Kerr spacetime**: - By introducing complex scalar fields \(\hat{u}, \hat{v}, \hat{w}, \hat{z}\), a new coordinate system \((U^+, V^+, W^+, Z^+)\) is defined, and the periodicity of imaginary time \(t\), \(\beta_+=\frac{2\pi}{\kappa_+}\) and the imaginary displacement of the angular variable \(\phi\), \(\Omega_+\beta_+\) are shown. - It is proved that the horizons (future and past) are located on different α - surfaces, and these coordinate systems cover the entire region outside the outer horizon. ### Conclusion This paper successfully derives the periodicity of imaginary time and the imaginary displacement of angular variables in black - hole spacetimes without referring to Euclidean manifolds by analyzing α - surfaces and global coordinate systems. This method is not only applicable to the Schwarzschild and Kerr solutions but can also be extended to other black - hole spacetimes containing α - surfaces, such as the Plebański - Demiański family of solutions. This provides a new perspective for understanding black - hole thermodynamics and quantum gravity.
