Abstract:We compute the electron self-energy in Quantum Electrodynamics to three loops in terms of iterated integrals over kernels of elliptic type. We make use of the differential equations method, augmented by an $\epsilon$-factorized basis, which allows us to gain full control over the differential forms appearing in the iterated integrals to all orders in the dimensional regulator. We obtain compact analytic expressions, for which we provide generalized series expansion representations that allow us to evaluate the result numerically for all values of the electron momentum squared. As a by product, we also obtain $\epsilon$-resummed results for the self-energy in the on-shell limit $p^2 = m^2$, which we use to recompute the known three-loop renormalization constants in the on-shell scheme.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### Problems the paper attempts to solve This paper aims to calculate the three - loop correction of the electron self - energy in Quantum Electrodynamics (QED). Specifically, the authors use the method of iterated integrals, especially the elliptic - type kernel functions, to accurately calculate this physical quantity. The main objectives of the paper include: 1. **Accurate calculation of the three - loop correction**: - By means of the differential equation method and the ϵ - factorization basis, the authors are able to control the differential forms in the dimensional regulator of all orders. - They obtain a compact analytical expression and provide a generalized series expansion representation for numerical evaluation for all values of the electron momentum squared. 2. **Investigation of the analytical structure**: - The authors study in detail the analytical properties of the solution near the on - shell limit \( p^2 = m^2 \) and the singularity point \( p^2 = 0 \). - They also explore the connection between these solutions and modular forms, especially near \( p^2 = m^2 \). 3. **Recalculation of the renormalization conditions**: - As a by - product, the authors recalculate the known renormalization constants in the three - loop on - shell scheme. 4. **Development of mathematical tools**: - The paper shows how to use modern mathematical tools, such as elliptic curves and modular forms, to handle complex multi - loop Feynman integrals. - These tools not only simplify the calculations but also provide a new perspective for understanding the mathematical structure in the high - order perturbation theory. ### Main contributions - **Analytical results**: Provide the complete analytical results of the electron self - energy under the three - loop correction, which is the first time this goal has been achieved in QED. - **Mathematical methods**: Develop a new set of mathematical methods, especially using elliptic curves and modular forms to handle complex multi - loop integrals. - **Physical applications**: These results are of great significance for high - precision particle physics experiments and theoretical research, especially in the precision tests of the Standard Model. ### Conclusion Through the above work, the authors not only solve the calculation problem of the electron self - energy under the three - loop correction but also provide new mathematical tools and methods for future research in the high - order perturbation theory. These achievements are of great value for understanding the basic physical processes in QED and promoting research in related fields.
