Abstract:In this note we study Landis conjecture for positive Schrödinger operators on graphs. More precisely, we give a decay criterion that ensures when $ \mathcal{H} $-harmonic functions for a positive Schrödinger operator $ \mathcal{H} $ with potentials bounded from above by $ 1 $ are trivial. We then specifically look at the special cases of $ \mathbb{Z}^{d} $ and regular trees for which we get explicit decay criterion. Moreover, we consider the fractional analogue of Landis conjecture on $ \mathbb{Z}^{d} $. Our approach relies on the discrete version of Liouville comparison principle which is also proved in this article.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about the Landis conjecture for positive Schrödinger operators on graphs. Specifically, the author studies whether the \(H\)-harmonic functions of a positive Schrödinger operator \(H\) must be trivial (i.e., the zero function) when they satisfy certain decay conditions. The main contribution of the paper is to give a decay criterion which ensures that when the potential \(V\) is restricted within a certain range, if the \(H\)-harmonic functions satisfy specific decay conditions, they must be zero functions. ### Background and Problem Description of the Paper The Landis conjecture was first proposed in the 1960s for the \(H\)-harmonic functions \(u\) of the Schrödinger operator \(H=\Delta + V\) on the Euclidean space \(\mathbb{R}^d\). Suppose that the potential \(V\) satisfies \(|V|\leq1\) and \(u\) satisfies a certain exponential decay condition, for example: \[|u(x)|\leq\exp(-C|x|)\] where \(C > 0\) is a sufficiently large constant, then \(u\) should be trivial, i.e., \(u = 0\). However, Meshkov provided a counterexample in 1992, showing that for complex - valued potentials \(V\), the Landis conjecture does not hold. Therefore, the Landis conjecture remains an open problem in the case of real - valued potentials. ### Main Contributions of the Paper This paper extends the study of the Landis conjecture to discrete graphs and assumes that the Schrödinger operator \(H\) is positive (i.e., its corresponding quadratic form is non - negative). The main results include: 1. **Decay Criterion on General Graphs**: - A decay criterion is given which ensures that when the potential \(V\leq1\), if the \(H\)-harmonic function \(u\) satisfies certain decay conditions, then \(u\) must be a zero function. 2. **Specific Decay Conditions on Special Graphs**: - For the integer lattice \(\mathbb{Z}^d\) and regular trees, specific decay conditions are given. - For \(\mathbb{Z}^d\), if \(u\) satisfies: - When \(d = 1,2\), \(u\) is bounded; - When \(d\geq3\), \(u\in O(|x|^{(2 - d)/2})\); - And \[ \liminf_{x\rightarrow\infty}|u(x)||x|^{(d - 1)/2}e^{|x|}=0 \] then \(u = 0\). 3. **Landis - type Results for Fractional - order Schrödinger Operators**: - The Landis - type results of the Schrödinger operator involving the fractional - order Laplacian operator \(\Delta^\sigma\) on \(\mathbb{Z}^d\) are studied. ### Methods and Techniques The author uses the discrete version of the Liouville comparison principle, which is a key technical tool. Through this principle, the author is able to compare the \(H\)-harmonic function \(u\) with a "slowly decaying" Agmon ground state, thus proving that \(u\) must be a zero function. ### Conclusions This paper, through the study of positive Schrödinger operators on graphs, provides new decay criteria which ensure the triviality of \(H\)-harmonic functions under certain specific conditions. These results are applicable not only to general graphs, but also particularly to integer lattices and regular trees. In addition, the paper also considers the case of fractional - order Schrödinger operators, further expanding the scope of the study of the Landis conjecture.
