Abstract:Spin- and charge-lattice interactions are potential key factors in the microscopic mechanism of high-temperature superconductivity in cuprates. Although both interactions can dramatically shape the low-energy electronic structure, their phenomenological roles in superconductivity are usually investigated independently. Employing angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we reveal the spectroscopic fingerprint of short-range antiferromagnetic order in conjunction with enhanced electron-phonon interaction in the electron-doped cuprate superconductor $\mathrm{Nd_{1.85}Ce_{0.15}CuO_4}$. The observed mode coupling exhibits a strong momentum dependence that is in striking contrast to the node-antinode dichotomy previously observed in the hole-doped cuprates. Our results reveal an intimate relationship between electron-phonon coupling and antiferromagnetic fluctuations, which collectively sets the stage for unconventional superconductivity in the electron-doped cuprates.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper primarily explores the relationship between electron-phonon interaction and antiferromagnetic fluctuations in electron-doped cuprate superconductors. Specifically, the study reveals the spectral characteristics of short-range antiferromagnetic order and enhanced electron-phonon interaction in the electron-doped cuprate superconductor Nd_{1.85}Ce_{0.15}CuO_{4} (NCCO) using Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES) technology. Key findings of the study include: 1. A peak-dip-hump structure was observed in the nodal direction, similar to the phenomenon observed near the antinodal region in hole-doped cuprates, but previously unreported in electron-doped systems. 2. Near the antinodal region, a kink with an energy scale of approximately 50 meV was observed in the main dispersion, similar to the nodal behavior. 3. The intensity of the peak-dip-hump structure and the kink is closely related to the observed antiferromagnetic correlation strength, indicating a close relationship between electron-phonon coupling and antiferromagnetic fluctuations. 4. Compared to the hole-doped Bi_{1.7}Pb_{0.4}Sr_{1.7}CaCu_{2}O_{8+δ} (PbBi-2212), the electron-phonon coupling in electron-doped materials exhibits an opposite nodal-antinodal dichotomy but shows a striking similarity in temperature dependence. These results provide new insights into the synergistic effects of different interactions in cuprate superconductors and raise the question of whether antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations and electron-phonon coupling might synergistically contribute to the emergence of superconductivity.
