Abstract:This work addresses the regularity of solutions for a nonlocal wave equation over the space of periodic distributions. The spatial operator for the nonlocal wave equation is given by a nonlocal Laplace operator with a compactly supported integral kernel. We follow a unified approach based on the Fourier multipliers of the nonlocal Laplace operator, which allows the study of regular as well as distributional solutions of the nonlocal wave equation, integrable as well as singular kernels, in any spatial dimension. In addition, the results extend beyond operators with singular kernels to nonlocal-pseudo differential operators. We present results on the spatial and temporal regularity of solutions in terms of regularity of the initial data or the forcing term. Moreover, solutions of the nonlocal wave equation are shown to converge to the solution of the classical wave equation for two types of limits: as the spatial nonlocality vanishes or as the singularity of the integral kernel approaches a certain critical singularity that depends on the spatial dimension.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### The problems the paper attempts to solve This paper aims to explore the regularity of solutions of non - local wave equations on periodic distribution spaces. Specifically, the paper studies non - local wave equations in the following form: \[ \begin{cases} u_{tt}(x,t)=L_{\gamma}u(x,t)+b(x), & x\in T^{n}, t > 0\\ u(x,0)=f(x), & x\in T^{n}\\ u_{t}(x,0)=g(x), & x\in T^{n} \end{cases} \] where \(T^{n}\) is the periodic torus in \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\), and \(L_{\gamma}\) is a non - local Laplace operator in the following form: \[ L_{\gamma}u(x)=\int(u(y)-u(x))\gamma(y,x)dy \] Here \(\gamma\) is a symmetric kernel function with compact support. The main contributions of the paper include: 1. **Regularity results**: The spatial and temporal regularity of solutions of non - local wave equations is studied, and these regularities depend on the regularity of the initial data or the forcing term. 2. **Convergence results**: It is proved that in two limit cases, the solutions of non - local wave equations converge to the solutions of classical wave equations: - When the spatial non - locality disappears (i.e., \(\delta\rightarrow0^{+}\)), and \(\beta < n + 4\) is fixed. - When the singularity of the integral kernel approaches a certain critical singularity (i.e., \(\beta\rightarrow n + 2\)), and \(\delta>0\) is fixed. ### Main technical means 1. **Fourier multiplier**: The Fourier multiplier of the non - local Laplace operator is used to study the regularity of solutions. The form of the Fourier multiplier is: \[ m_{\delta,\beta}(\nu)=-\|\nu\|^{2}+2F_{3}\left(1,\frac{n + 2-\beta}{2};2,\frac{n + 2}{2},\frac{n + 4-\beta}{2};-\frac{1}{4}\|\nu\|^{2}\delta^{2}\right) \] 2. **Explicit representation**: For \(\beta < n + 4\), an explicit mixed integral - differential representation of the non - local Laplace operator is given: \[ L_{\delta,\beta}u(x)=\Delta u(x)+c_{\delta,\beta}\int_{B_{\delta}(0)}\frac{u(x + z)-u(x)-\nabla\nabla u(x):z\otimes z/2}{\|z\|^{\beta}}dz \] 3. **Monotonicity**: The monotonicity of the Fourier multiplier with respect to the kernel index \(\beta\) is proved, which plays a key role in proving the convergence of solutions. ### Conclusion Through the above methods, the paper systematically studies the regularity and convergence of solutions of non - local wave equations, providing a theoretical basis for understanding the properties of non - local wave equations.
