Abstract:Mean Field Games (MFG) theory describes strategic interactions in differential games with a large number of small and indistinguishable players. Traditionally, the players' control impacts only the drift term in the system's dynamics, leaving the diffusion term uncontrolled. This paper explores a novel scenario where agents control both drift and diffusion. This leads to a fully non-linear MFG system with a fully non-linear Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation. We use viscosity arguments to prove existence of solutions for the HJB equation, and then we adapt and extend a result from Krylov to prove a $\mathcal C^3$ regularity for $u$ in the space variable. This allows us to prove a well-posedness result for the MFG system.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the well - posedness problem of the system in the Mean Field Games (MFG) theory when the players control not only the drift term but also the diffusion term. Traditionally, in the MFG theory, players can only control the drift term in the system dynamics, while the diffusion term is uncontrolled. However, in many practical applications, it is very necessary to consider the situation where players can control both the drift and the diffusion simultaneously. For example, in financial applications, players may need to adjust the risk level (diffusion term) of their investment portfolios to respond to market fluctuations. In this paper, the author studies a new situation where players can control both the drift and the diffusion simultaneously. This leads to a fully nonlinear MFG system, which contains a fully nonlinear Hamilton - Jacobi - Bellman (HJB) equation. Specifically, the goals of the paper are: 1. **Prove the existence of solutions to the HJB equation**: Use the method of viscosity solutions to prove the existence of solutions to the HJB equation. 2. **Obtain the regularity of solutions**: By extending Krylov's results, prove the \(C^3\) regularity of solutions in the spatial variable. 3. **Prove the well - posedness of the MFG system**: Use the above results to prove the well - posedness of the MFG system, that is, there is a unique solution. The main contribution of the paper lies in dealing with the situation where the diffusion term is controlled in the fully nonlinear MFG system, which is a relatively less - studied area. Through these studies, the author hopes to provide a solid theoretical foundation for this type of problem, thereby promoting the further development of related fields.
