Abstract:We examine the transition from trivial to non-trivial phases in a Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model subjected to disorder in a quasi-periodic environment. We analytically determine the phase boundary, and characterize the localization of normal modes using their inverse participation ratio. We compute energy-dependent mobility edges and provide evidence for the emergence of a topological Anderson insulator within specific parameter ranges. Whereas the phase transition boundary is affected by the quasi-periodic modulation, the topologically insulating Anderson phase is stable with respect to the chiral disorder in a quasi-periodic setup. Additionally, our results also uncover a re-entrant topological phase transition from non-trivial to trivial phases for certain values of quasi-periodic modulation with fixed chiral disorder.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper attempts to address the problem of how disorder drives topological phase transitions in one-dimensional quasicrystal mechanical systems. Specifically, the authors investigate the transition of the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model from a trivial phase to a non-trivial phase under the influence of disorder in a quasiperiodic environment. By analyzing phase boundaries, localization properties of normal modes, energy-dependent mobility edges, and the emergence of Topological Anderson Insulators (TAI), the paper explores the mechanisms and characteristics of these phase transitions. ### Main Research Content: 1. **Determination of Phase Boundaries**: The authors determine the phase boundaries through analytical methods and study the impact of quasiperiodic modulation on these boundaries. 2. **Localization of Normal Modes**: The localization properties of normal modes are characterized using the Inverse Participation Ratio (IPR). 3. **Mobility Edges**: The energy-dependent mobility edges are calculated, providing evidence for the existence of Topological Anderson Insulators. 4. **Topological Anderson Insulators**: The emergence of Topological Anderson Insulators within specific parameter ranges is demonstrated, and their stability is discussed. 5. **Reentrant Topological Phase Transitions**: Reentrant topological phase transitions from non-trivial to trivial phases are discovered at certain values of quasiperiodic modulation. ### Research Background: - **Topological Insulators**: The discovery of topological insulators in condensed matter physics has sparked exploration of similar phases in acoustic and elastic systems. - **Quasiperiodic Disorder**: The emergence of twisted bilayer graphene introduces the concept of quasiperiodic disorder, which has practical applications in electronic systems. - **SSH Model**: The SSH model is one of the best models for studying these phase transitions, as different topological phases can be achieved by adjusting the model parameters. ### Research Significance: - **Topological Phase Transitions in Classical Systems**: The paper aims to extend the concepts from quantum models to a classical framework, demonstrating that topological phase transitions are not limited to quantum systems but can also be effectively realized in classical systems. - **Impact of Disorder on Topological Properties**: The study explores how disorder affects the topological properties of the system, particularly under quasiperiodic modulation. Through this research, the authors hope to provide new perspectives and methods for understanding topological phase transitions in complex systems.
