Abstract:This paper is concerned with the existence and uniqueness of positive fixed points for nonlinear decreasing operators with sublinear perturbation operators in ordered Banach spaces. A new fixed-point theorem, without the assumption of compactness and continuity of operators, is established, and an iterative sequence yielding the fixed point is also given. In addition, an application to nonlinear integral equations is shown.

Abstract:We show that there exist pairs of non-isometric potentials for the 1D semiclassical Schrödinger operator whose spectra agree up to $O(h^\infty)$, yet their corresponding eigenvalues differ no less than exponentially. This result was conjectured by Guillemen and Hezari in [GH12], where they prove a very similar result, yet cannot remove the possibility of a subsequence $h_k\to 0$ where the ground state eigenvalues may agree.

Abstract:We introduce an abstract framework for elliptic boundary value problems in a variational form. Given a non-negative quadratic form in a Hilbert space, a boundary pair consists of a bounded operator, the boundary operator, and an auxiliary Hilbert space, the boundary space, such that the boundary operator is bounded from the quadratic form domain into the auxiliary Hilbert space. These data determine a Neumann and Dirichlet operator, a Dirichlet solution and a Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator. The basic example we have in mind is a manifold with boundary, where the quadratic form is the integral over the squared derivative, and the boundary map is the restriction of a function to (a subset of) the boundary of the manifold. As one of the main theorems, we derive a resolvent formula relating the difference of the resolvents of the Neumann and Dirichlet operator with the Dirichlet solution and the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator. From this, we deduce a spectral characterisation for a point being in the spectrum of the Neumann operator in terms of the family of Dirichlet-to-Neumann operators. The relation can be generalised also to Robin-type boundary conditions. We identify conditions expressed purely in terms of boundary pairs, which allow us to relate our concept with existing concepts such as boundary triples. We illustrate the theory by many examples including Jacobi operators, Laplacians on spaces with (non-smooth) boundary and the Zaremba (mixed boundary conditions) problem.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with paired operators in the context of the Lebesgue Hilbert space on the unit circle and its subspace, the Hardy space. By considering when such operators commute, generalizations of the Brown--Halmos results for Toeplitz operators are derived. Further, the kernels of such operators are described, giving results on invariant and nearly-invariant subspaces, together with a generalization of Coburn's theorem on Toeplitz kernels.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the problem of the uniqueness of fixed points for operators defined on subspaces of the space of continuous functions C[a,b] equipped with norms stronger than the supremum norm. We are particularly interested in Hölder spaces since they are natural ranges of integral operators of fractional order. Our goal is to preserve the expected regularity of the fixed points (solutions of the equations) when investigating their uniqueness, without assuming a contraction condition on the space under study. We claim some symmetry between the case of the obtained results and the case of the classical Banach fixed-point theorem in such spaces, even for operators which are not necessarily contractions in the sense of the norm of these subspaces. This result is of particular interest for the study of quadratic integral equations, and as an application example we prove the uniqueness theorem for such a kind equations with general fractional order integral operators, which are not necessarily contractions, in a suitably constructed generalized Hölder space.

Abstract:We describe a general method for constructing Heisenberg uniqueness pairs in the euclidean space based on the study of boundary value problems for partial differential equations. As a result, we show, for instance, that any pair made of the boundary of a bounded convex set and a sphere is an Heisenberg uniqueness pair if and only if the square of the radius of is not an eigenvalue of the Laplacian on . The main ingredients for the proofs are the Paley–Wiener theorem, the uniqueness of a solution to a homogeneous Dirichlet or initial boundary value problem, the continuity of single layer potentials, and some complex analysis in . Denjoy's theorem on topological conjugacy of circle diffeomorphisms with irrational rotation numbers is also useful.

Abstract:The contraction condition in the Banach contraction principle forces a function to be continuous. Many authors overcome this obligation and weaken the hypotheses via metric spaces endowed with a partial order. In this paper, we present some coupled fixed point theorems for the functions having mixed monotone properties on ordered vector metric spaces, which are more general spaces than partially ordered metric spaces. We also define the double monotone property and investigate the previous results with this property. In the last section, we prove the uniqueness of a coupled fixed point for non-monotone functions. In addition, we present some illustrative examples to emphasize that our results are more general than the ones in the literature.

In particular, we study the fixed-point properties of the Mordukhovich differential operator for the metric projection operator onto some closed and convex subsets in Banach spaces, such as, closed balls in Banach spaces, positive cones in real spaces l2 and l1 and sets of polynomials in C[0, 1].

Abstract:This study examines the existence and uniqueness of the solution to the coupled system of the ψ-Hilfer nonlinear implicit fractional multipoint boundary value problem. The uniqueness is shown by the Banach contraction principle, and the existence is shown by Krasnosel’skii’s fixed point theorem in a special working space. An example is presented to verify our results. The existence and uniqueness of the solution are analysed graphically.

Abstract:This paper considers paired operators in the context of the Lebesgue Hilbert space on the unit circle and its subspace, the Hardy space . The kernels of such operators, together with their analytic projections, which are generalizations of Toeplitz kernels, are studied. Results on near-invariance properties, representations, and inclusion relations for these kernels are obtained. The existence of a minimal Toeplitz kernel containing any projected paired kernel and, more generally, any nearly -invariant subspace of , is derived. The results are applied to describing the kernels of finite-rank asymmetric truncated Toeplitz operators.
