Abstract:We investigate the existence of "generic derivations" in exponential fields. We show that exponential fields without additional compatibility conditions between derivation and exponentiation cannot support a generic derivation.

Abstract:Let K be an algebraically bounded structure and T be its theory. If T is model complete, then the theory of K endowed with a derivation, denoted by $T^{\delta}$, has a model completion. Additionally, we prove that if the theory T is stable/NIP then the model completion of $T^{\delta}$ is also stable/NIP. Similar results hold for the theory with several derivations, either commuting or non-commuting.

Abstract:In math.AC/9608214 it was shown that fields of generalized power series cannot admit an exponential function. In this paper, we construct fields of generalized power series with bounded support which admit an exponential. We give a natural definition of an exponential, which makes these fields into models of real exponentiation. The method allows to construct for every kappa regular uncountable cardinal, 2^{kappa} pairwise non-isomorphic models of real exponentiation (of cardinality kappa), but all isomorphic as ordered fields. Indeed, the 2^{kappa} exponentials constructed have pairwise distinct growth rates. This method relies on constructing lexicographic chains with many automorphisms.

Abstract:Pseudoexponential fields are exponential fields similar to complex exponentiation satisfying the Schanuel Property, which is the abstract statement of Schanuel's Conjecture, and an adapted form of existential closure. Here we show that if we remove the Schanuel Property and just care about existential closure, it is possible to create several existentially closed exponential functions on the algebraic numbers that still have similarities with complex exponentiation. The main difficulties are related to the arithmetic of algebraic numbers, and they can be overcome with known results about specialisations of multiplicatively independent functions on algebraic varieties.

Abstract:We provide a characterisation of differentially large fields in arbitrary characteristic and a single derivation in the spirit of Blum axioms for differentially closed fields. In the case of characteristic zero, we use these axioms to characterise differential largeness in terms of being existentially closed in the differential algebraic Laurent series ring, and we prove that any large field of infinite transcendence degree can be expanded to a differentially large field even under certain prescribed constant fields. As an application, we show that the theory of proper dense pairs of models of a complete and modelcomplete theory of large fields, is a complete theory. As a further consequence of the expansion result we show that there is no real closed and differential field that has a prime model extension in closed ordered differential fields, unless it is itself a closed ordered differential field.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the study of loss of derivatives for an evolution type model, which allows for non-integer powers of (−Δ). On the one hand, we describe the influence from the orders of principle symbols. On the other hand, we explore the significant impact of ν-related oscillation from the pseudo-differential operators. In the final analysis, to demonstrate the sharpness of our estimates, counter-examples are constructed through the application of Floquet theory and instability arguments.

Abstract:We establish a correspondence between automorphisms and derivations on certain algebras of generalised power series. In particular, we describe a Lie algebra of derivations on a field $k(\!(G)\!)$ of generalised power series, exploiting our knowledge of its group of valuation preserving automorphisms. The correspondence is given by the formal Taylor expansion of the exponential. In order to define the exponential map, we develop an appropriate notion of summability of infinite families in algebras. We show that there is a large class of algebras in which the exponential induces the above correspondence.

Restricted analytic valued fields with partial exponentiation

Abstract:Non-archimedean fields with restricted analytic functions may not support a full exponential function, but they always have partial exponentials defined in convex subrings. On face of this, we study the first order theory of the class of non-archimedean ordered valued fields augmented by all restricted analytic functions and an exponential function defined in the valuation ring, which extends the restricted analytic exponential. We obtain model completeness and other desirable properties for this theory. In particular, any model embeds in a model where the partial exponential extends to a full one.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a commutative ring with unity and $B = A[\theta]$ be an integral extension of $A$. Assume that $B$ is an integral domain with quotient field $\mathbb{K}$ and $\mathbb{E}$ is the minimal splitting field of $\theta$ over $\mathbb{K}$. Suppose $\sigma, \tau: B \rightarrow \mathbb{E}$ are two different ring homomorphisms that fix $A$ element-wise. In this article, we classify all $A$-linear maps $D: B \rightarrow \mathbb{E}$ which are $(\sigma, \tau)$-derivations. Consequently, we classify all $(\sigma, \tau)$-derivations in certain field extensions, algebraic number fields, and their ring of algebraic integers. For the ring of algebraic integers, $O_{\mathbb{K}} = \mathbb{Z}[\zeta]$ of the cyclotomic number field $\mathbb{K} = \mathbb{Q}(\zeta)$ ($\zeta$ an $n^{\text{th}}$ primitive root of unity), and a pair $(\sigma, \tau)$ of two different $\mathbb{Z}$-algebra endomorphisms of $O_{\mathbb{K}}$, we conjecture a necessary and sufficient condition for a $(\sigma, \tau)$-derivation $D:O_{\mathbb{K}} \rightarrow O_{\mathbb{K}}$ to be inner. This is done for two different forms of $n$: (i) $n = 2^{r}p$ ($r \in \mathbb{N}$ and $p$ an odd rational prime), and (ii) $n=p^{k}$ ($k \in \mathbb{N}$ and $p$ any rational prime). We also conjecture the existence and non-existence of non-zero outer derivations for the above two forms of $n$, thus answering the twisted derivation problem in $O_{\mathbb{K}}$.

Abstract:Let $F$ be an archimedean field, $G$ a divisible ordered abelian group and $h$ a group exponential on $G$. A triple $(F,G,h)$ is realised in a non-archimedean exponential field $(K,\exp)$ if the residue field of $K$ under the natural valuation is $F$ and the induced exponential group of $(K,\exp)$ is $(G,h)$. We give a full characterisation of all triples $(F,G,h)$ which can be realised in a model of real exponentiation in the following two cases: i) $G$ is countable. ii) $G$ is of cardinality $\kappa$ and $\kappa$-saturated for an uncountable regular cardinal $\kappa$ with $\kappa^{<\kappa} = \kappa$. Moreover, we show that for any o-minimal exponential field $(K, \exp)$ satisfying the differential equation $\exp' = \exp$, its residue exponential field is a model of real exponentiation.

Abstract: Let $S(0,1)$ be the $*$-algebra of all classes of Lebesgue measurable functions on the unit interval $(0,1)$ and let $(\mathcal{A},\left\|\cdot \right\|_\mathcal{A})$ be a complete symmetric $\Delta$-normed $*$-subalgebra of $S(0,1)$, in which simple functions are dense, e.g., $L_\infty (0,1)$, $L_{\log}(0,1)$, $S(0,1)$ and the Arens algebra $L^\omega (0,1)$ equipped with their natural $\Delta$-norms. We show that there exists no non-trivial derivation $ \delta: \mathcal{A} \to S(0,1)$ commuting with all dyadic translations of the unit interval. Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a type $II$ (or $I_\infty$) von Neumann algebra, $\mathcal{A}$ be its abelian von Neumann subalgebra, let $S(\mathcal{M})$ be the algebra of all measurable operators affiliated with $\mathcal{M}$. We show that any non-trivial derivation $\delta:\mathcal{A} \to S(\mathcal{A})$ can not be extended to a derivation on $S(\mathcal{M})$. In particular, we answer an untreated question in \cite{BKS1}.
On transasymptotic expansions of o-minimal germs

Abstract:Given an o-minimal expansion $\mathbb{R}_{\mathcal{A}}$ of the real ordered field, generated by a generalized quasianalytic class $\mathcal{A}$, we construct an explicit truncation closed ordered differential field embedding of the Hardy field of the expansion $\mathbb{R}_{\mathcal{A},\exp}$ of $\mathbb{R}_{\mathcal{A}}$ by the unrestricted exponential function, into the field $\mathbb{T}$ of transseries. We use this to prove some non-definability results. In particular, we show that the restriction to the positive half-line of Euler's Gamma function is not definable in the structure $\mathbb{R}_{\text{an}^{*},\exp}$, generated by all convergent generalized power series and the exponential function, thus establishing the non-interdefinability of the restrictions to a neighbourhood of $+\infty$ of Euler's Gamma and of the Riemann Zeta function.

Abstract:Let M be a type II1 von Neumann factor and let S(M) be the associated Murray-von Neumann algebra of all measurable operators affiliated to M. We extend a result of Kadison and Liu [30] by showing that any derivation from S(M) into an M-bimodule B⊊S(M) is trivial. In the special case, when M is the hyperfinite type II1-factor R, we introduce the algebra AD(R), a noncommutative analogue of the algebra of all almost everywhere approximately differentiable functions on [0,1] and show that it is a proper subalgebra of S(R). This algebra is strictly larger than the corresponding ring of continuous geometry introduced by von Neumann. Further, we establish that the classical approximate derivative on (classes of) Lebesgue measurable functions on [0,1] admits an extension to a derivation from AD(R) into S(R), which fails to be spatial. Finally, we show that for a Cartan masa A in a hyperfinite II1-factor R there exists a derivation δ from A into S(A) which does not admit an extension up to a derivation from R to S(R).

Abstract:In this paper, we first define a concrete representation on an abelian extension of a Leibniz triple system L by a Leibniz triple system A. Using this new representation we construct the third-order cohomology classes by derivations of A and L, which characterize the splitting property of above abelian extensions. Then we study the obstruction for extensibility of derivation pairs. We prove that the set of compatible derivation pairs can define a Lie algebra, whose representation can also characterize the extensibility of the compatible derivation pairs.

Analogues of Shepherdson's Theorem for a language with exponentiation

Abstract:In 1964 Shepherdson proved the following fact: a discretely ordered semiring $\mathcal{M}^+$ satisfies $\sf{IOpen}$ (open, or quantifier free, induction) iff the corresponding ring $\mathcal{M}$ is an integer part of the real closure of the quotient field of $\mathcal{M}$. In this paper, we consider the open induction in the expanded languages with the exponentiation and the power function and try to find a similar criterion for models of these theories. For several expansions $\mathsf T$ of the theory of real closed fields we obtain analogues of Shepherdson's Theorem in the following sense: if an exponential field $\mathcal R$ is a model of $\mathsf T$ and discretely ordered ring $\mathcal M$ is an (exponential) integer part of $\mathcal R$, then $\mathcal M^+$ is a model of the open induction in the expanded language. The proof of the opposite implications remains an open question, but for some finite extension of the usual open induction we can prove the following theorem: for any discretely ordered ring $\mathcal M$ holds $\mathcal M^+$ satisfies this finite extension iff there is an exponential real closed field with the Bernoulli inequality $\mathcal R$ such that $\mathcal M$ is an exponential integer part of $\mathcal R$. After that, we consider a nonstandard o-minimal exponential field, constructed in the paper of van den Dries, Macintyre, Marker and using it and the results above, construct nonstandard models of the open induction in the expanded languages and obtain independence results.

Abstract:Let A be a Banach algebra and let X be a Banach A -bimodule. In studying the bounded Hochschild cohomology groups H^1(A,X) it is often useful to extend a given derivation D: A-> X to a Banach algebra B containing A as an ideal, thereby exploiting (or establishing) hereditary properties. This is usually done using (bounded/unbounded) approximate identities to obtain the extension as a limit of operators b->D(ba)-b.D(a), (a in A) in an appropriate operator topology, the main point in the proof being to show that the limit map is in fact a derivation. In this paper we make clear which part of this approach is analytic and which algebraic by presenting an algebraic scheme that gives derivations in all situations at the cost of enlarging the module. We use our construction to give improvements and shorter proofs of some results from the literature and to give a necessary and sufficient condition that biprojectivity and biflatness are inherited to ideals.

Abstract:We develop a first-order theory of ordered transexponential fields in the language $\{+,\cdot,0,1,<,e,T\}$, where $e$ and $T$ stand for unary function symbols. While the archimedean models of this theory are readily described, the study of the non-archimedean models leads to a systematic examination of the induced structure on the residue field and the value group under the natural valuation. We establish necessary and sufficient conditions on the value group of an ordered exponential field $(K,e)$ to admit a transexponential function $T$ compatible with $e$. Moreover, we give a full characterisation of all countable ordered transexponential fields in terms of their valuation theoretic invariants.

Abstract:In this article, we prove the following result. Let n ≥ 3 be some fixed integer and let R be a prime ring with char ( R ) ≠ ( n + 1 ) ! 2 n − 2 . Suppose there exists an additive mapping D : R → R satisfying the relation for all x ∈ R . In this case, D is a derivation. This result is related to a classical result of Herstein, which states that any Jordan derivation on a prime ring with char ( R ) ≠ 2 is a derivation.
