Abstract:Given a connected, locally finite, quasi-transitive graph $X$ which is quasi-isometric to a planar graph $\Gamma$, we remark that one can upgrade $\Gamma$ to be a planar Cayley graph, answering a question raised by Esperet--Giocanti and Hamann.

Abstract:We prove that a connected, locally finite, quasi-transitive graph which is quasi-isometric to a planar graph is necessarily accessible. This leads to a complete classification of the finitely generated groups which are quasi-isometric to planar graphs. In particular, such a group is virtually a free product of free and surface groups, and thus virtually admits a planar Cayley graph.

Abstract:We study geometric and topological properties of infinite graphs that are quasi-isometric to a planar graph of bounded degree. We prove that every locally finite quasi-transitive graph excluding a minor is quasi-isometric to a planar graph of bounded degree. We use the result to give a simple proof of the result that finitely generated minor-excluded groups have Assouad-Nagata dimension at most 2 (this is known to hold in greater generality, but all known proofs use significantly deeper tools). We also prove that every locally finite quasi-transitive graph that is quasi-isometric to a planar graph is $k$-planar for some $k$ (i.e. it has a planar drawing with at most $k$ crossings per edge), and discuss a possible approach to prove the converse statement.

Abstract:We prove that every locally finite quasi-transitive graph that does not contain $K_\infty$ as a minor is quasi-isometric to some planar quasi-transitive locally finite graph. This solves a problem of Esperet and Giocanti and improves their recent result that such graphs are quasi-isometric to some planar graph of bounded degree.

Abstract:We clarify the correspondence between the two approaches to quantum graphs: via quantum adjacency matrices and via quantum relations. We show how the choice of a (possibly non-tracial) weight manifests itself on the quantum relation side and suggest an extension of the theory of quantum graphs to the infinite dimensional case. Then we use this framework to introduce quantum graphs associated to discrete quantum groups, leading to a new definition of a quantum Cayley graph.

Abstract:We extend the notion of quasi-transitive orientations of graphs to 2-edge-coloured graphs. By relating quasi-transitive $2$-edge-colourings to an equivalence relation on the edge set of a graph, we classify those graphs that admit a quasi-transitive $2$-edge-colouring. As a contrast to Ghouilá-Houri's classification of quasi-transitively orientable graphs as comparability graphs, we find quasi-transitively $2$-edge-colourable graphs do not admit a forbiddden subgraph characterization. Restricting the problem to comparability graphs, we show that the family of uniquely quasi-transitively orientable comparability graphs is exactly the family of comparabilty graphs that admit no quasi-transitive $2$-edge-colouring.

Abstract:A nearly platonic graph is a k-regular simple planar graph in which all but a small number of the faces have the same degree. We show that it is impossible for a finite graph to have exactly one disparate face, and offer some conjectures, including the conjecture that graphs with two disparate faces come in a small set of families.

Abstract:Let G be a finite nonabelian simple group and let Gamma be a connected undirected Cayley graph for G. The possible structures for the full automorphism group AutGamma are specified. Then, for certain finite simple groups G, a sufficient condition is given under which G is a normal subgroup of AutGamma. Finally, as an application of these results, several new half-transitive graphs are constructed. Some of these involve the sporadic simple groups G J(1), J(4), Ly and BM, while others fall into two infinite families and involve the Ree simple groups and alternating groups. The two infinite families contain examples of half-transitive graphs of arbitrarily large valency.

Abstract:The isomorphism problem of Cayley graphs has been well studied in the literature, such as characterizations of CI (DCI)-graphs and CI (DCI)-groups. In this paper, we generalize these to vertex-transitive graphs and establish parallel results. Some interesting vertex-transitive graphs are given, including a first example of connected symmetric non-Cayley non-GI-graph. Also, we initiate the study for GI and DGI-groups, defined analogously to the concept of CI and DCI-groups.

Abstract:We prove that there is a function $f$ such that every graph with no $K$-fat $K_4$ minor is $f(K)$-quasi-isometric to a graph with no $K_4$ minor. This solves the $K_4$-case of a general conjecture of Georgakopoulos and Papasoglu. Our proof technique also yields a new short proof of the respective $K_4^-$-case, which was first established by Fujiwara and Papasoglu.

Abstract:A connected graph is called \emph{geodetic} if there is a unique geodesic between each pair of vertices. In this paper we prove that if a finitely generated group admits a Cayley graph which is geodetic, then the group must be virtually free. Before now, it was open whether finitely generated and geodetic implied hyperbolic. In fact we prove something more general: if a quasi-transitive locally finite connected undirected graph is geodetic then it is quasi-isometric to a tree. Our main tool is to define a \emph{boundary} of a graph and understand how the local behaviour influences it when the graph is geodetic. Our results unify, and represent significant progress on, research initiated by Ore, Shapiro, and Madlener and Otto.

A Cayley graph for $F_{2}\times F_{2}$ which is not minimally almost convex

Abstract:We give an example of a Cayley graph $\Gamma$ for the group $F_{2}\times F_{2}$ which is not minimally almost convex (MAC). On the other hand, the standard Cayley graph for $F_{2}\times F_{2}$ does satisfy the falsification by fellow traveler property (FFTP), which is strictly stronger. As a result, any Cayley graph property $K$ lying between FFTP and MAC (i.e., $\text{FFTP}\Rightarrow K\Rightarrow\text{MAC}$) is dependent on the generating set. This includes the well known properties FFTP and almost convexity, which were already known to depend on the generating set as well as Poénaru's condition $P(2)$ and the basepoint loop shortening property for which dependence on the generating set was previously unknown. We also show that the Cayley graph $\Gamma$ does not have the loop shortening property, so this property also depends on the generating set.

Abstract:We show that the directed labelled Cayley graphs coincide with the rooted deterministic vertex-transitive simple graphs. The Cayley graphs are also the strongly connected deterministic simple graphs of which all vertices have the same cycle language, or just the same elementary cycle language. Under the assumption of the axiom of choice, we characterize the Cayley graphs for all group subsets as the deterministic, co-deterministic, vertex-transitive simple graphs.

Abstract:A balanced graph is a bipartite graph with no induced circuit of length 2 mod 4. These graphs arise in linear programming. We focus on graph-algebraic properties of balanced graphs to prove a complete classification of balanced Cayley graphs on abelian groups. Moreover, in Section 5 of this paper, we prove that there is no cubic balanced planar graph. Finally, some remarkable conjectures for balanced regular graphs are also presented.

Abstract:An infinite graph is quasi-transitive if its vertex set has finitely many orbits under the action of its automorphism group. In this paper we obtain a structure theorem for locally finite quasi-transitive graphs avoiding a minor, which is reminiscent of the Robertson-Seymour Graph Minor Structure Theorem. We prove that every locally finite quasi-transitive graph $G$ avoiding a minor has a tree-decomposition whose torsos are finite or planar; moreover the tree-decomposition is canonical, i.e. invariant under the action of the automorphism group of $G$. As applications of this result, we prove the following. * Every locally finite quasi-transitive graph attains its Hadwiger number, that is, if such a graph contains arbitrarily large clique minors, then it contains an infinite clique minor. This extends a result of Thomassen (1992) who proved it in the 4-connected case and suggested that this assumption could be omitted. * Locally finite quasi-transitive graphs avoiding a minor are accessible (in the sense of Thomassen and Woess), which extends known results on planar graphs to any proper minor-closed family. * Minor-excluded finitely generated groups are accessible (in the group-theoretic sense) and finitely presented, which extends classical results on planar groups. * The domino problem is decidable in a minor-excluded finitely generated group if and only if the group is virtually free, which proves the minor-excluded case of a conjecture of Ballier and Stein (2018).

Quasi-isometry classification of right-angled Artin groups II: several infinite out cases

Abstract:We are motivated by the question that for which class of right-angled Artin groups (RAAG's), the quasi-isometry classification coincides with commensurability classification. This is previously known for RAAG's with finite outer automorphism groups. In this paper, we identify two classes of RAAG's, where their outer automorphism groups are allowed to contain adjacent transvections and partial conjugations, hence infinite. If $G$ belongs to one of these classes, then any other RAAG $G'$ is quasi-isometric to $G$ if and only if $G'$ is commensurable to $G$. We also show that in this case, there exists an algorithm to determine whether two RAAG's are quasi-isometric by looking at their defining graphs. Compared to the finite out case, as well as the previous quasi-isometry rigidity results for symmetric spaces, thick Euclidean buildings and mapping class groups, the main issue we need to deal with here is the reconstruction map may not have nice properties as before, or may not even exist. We introduce a deformation argument, as well as techniques from cubulation to deal with this issue.

Abstract:We prove that the first homology group of every planar locally transitive finite graph $G$ is a finitely generated ${\rm Aut}(G)$-module and we prove a similar result for the fundamental group of locally finite planar Cayley graphs. Corollaries of these results include Droms's theorem that planar groups are finitely presented and Dunwoody's theorem that planar locally finite transitive graphs are accessible.

Abstract:The well-known characterization of two-ended groups says that every two-ended group can be split over finite subgroups which means it is isomorphic to either by a free product with amalgamation $A\ast_C B$ or an HNN-extension $\ast_{\phi} C$, where $C$ is a finite group and $[A:C]=[B:C]=2$ and $\phi\in Aut(C)$. In this paper, we show that there is a way in order to spilt two-ended quasi-transitive graphs without dominated ends and two-ended transitive graphs over finite subgraphs in the above sense. As an application of it, we characterize all groups acting with finitely many orbits almost freely on those graphs.
