Abstract:We study the relationship between ergodicity and irreducibility of transition probability tensors. We then introduce the notions of first passage times and mean first passage times, both in the tensor form, for higher order Markov chains and prove some properties of these quantities. Numerical examples are also given to illustrate our results.

Abstract:We construct an intertwining map from the oscillator representation to the tensor product of two degenerate principal series of G and G′ which form a reductive dual pair in the sense of Howe. We derive results on local theta correspondence for the dual pairs (O(p, q), Sp(2q, R)), (U(p, q), U(q, q)) and (Sp(p, q), O*(4q)), where p⩾q. We also describe the correspondence completely for the pairs (O(p, q), SL(2, R)), (U(p, q)U(1, 1)), and (Sp(p, q), O*(4)).

Abstract:We study the decomposition of tensor powers of two dimensional irreducible representations of quantum $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ at even roots of unity into direct sums of tilting modules. We derive a combinatorial formula for multiplicity of tilting modules in the $N$-th tensor power of two dimensional irreducible representations, interpret it in terms of lattice paths and find its asymptotic behavior when $N\to\infty$. We also describe the limit of character and Plancherel measures when $N\to\infty$. We consider both $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ with divided powers and the small quantum $sl_2$.

Abstract:Markov chains for probability distributions related to matrix product states and 1D Hamiltonians are introduced. With appropriate 'inverse temperature' schedules, these chains can be combined into a random approximation scheme for ground states of such Hamiltonians. Numerical experiments suggest that a linear, i.e. fast, schedule is possible in non-trivial cases. A natural extension of these chains to 2D settings is next presented and tested. The obtained results compare well with Euclidean evolution. The proposed Markov chains are easy to implement and are inherently sign problem free (even for fermionic degrees of freedom).

Abstract:For every genuine irreducible admissible smooth representation $\pi$ of the metaplectic group $\widetilde{{\rm Sp}}(2n)$ over a $p$-adic field, and every smooth oscillator representation $\omega_\psi$ of $\widetilde{{\rm Sp}}(2n)$, we prove that the tensor product $\pi\otimes\omega_\psi$ is multiplicity free as a smooth representation of the symplectic group ${\rm Sp}(2n)$. Similar results are proved for general linear groups and unitary groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the asymptotics of multiplicities of irreducible representations in large tensor products of finite dimensional representations of simple Lie algebras and their statistics with respect to Plancherel and character probability measures. We derive the asymptotic distribution of irreducible components for the Plancherel measure, generalizing results of Biane and Tate and Zelditch. We also derive the asymptotics of the character measure for generic parameters and an intermediate scaling in the vicinity of the Plancherel measure. It is interesting that the asymptotic measure is universal and after suitable renormalization does not depend on which representations were multiplied but depends significantly on the degeneracy of the parameter in the character distribution.

Abstract:The tensor rank (also known as generalized Schmidt rank) of multipartite pure states plays an important role in the study of entanglement classifications and transformations. We employ powerful tools from the theory of homogeneous polynomials to investigate the tensor rank of symmetric states such as the tripartite state vertical bar W-3 > = 1/root 3(vertical bar 100 > + vertical bar 010 > + vertical bar 001 >) and its N-partite generalization vertical bar W-N >. Previous tensor rank estimates are dramatically improved and we show that (i) three copies of vertical bar W-3 > have a rank of either 15 or 16, (ii) two copies of vertical bar W-N > have a rank of 3N - 2, and (iii) n copies of vertical bar W-N > have a rank of O(N). A remarkable consequence of these results is that certain multipartite transformations, impossible even probabilistically, can become possible when performed in multiple-copy bunches or when assisted by some catalyzing state. This effect is impossible for bipartite pure states.

Abstract:We construct an explicit abelian model for the operation of tensor $2$-product of $2$-representations of $\mathfrak{sl}_{2}^{+}$, specifically the product of a simple $2$-representation $\mathcal{L}(1)$ with a given abelian $2$-representation $\mathcal{V}$ taken from the $2$-category of algebras. We study the case $\mathcal{V}=\mathcal{L}(1)$ in detail, and we show that the $2$-product in this case recovers the expected structure. Our construction partially verifies a conjecture of Rouquier from 2008.

Markov Chain Monte Carlo in Tensor Network Representation

Abstract:Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) is a powerful tool for sampling from complex probability distributions. Despite its versatility, MCMC often suffers from strong autocorrelation and the negative sign problem, leading to slowing down the convergence of statistical error. We propose a novel MCMC formulation based on tensor network representations to reduce the population variance and mitigate these issues systematically. By introducing stochastic projectors into the tensor network framework and employing Markov chain sampling, our method eliminates the systematic error associated with low-rank approximation in tensor contraction while maintaining the high accuracy of the tensor network method. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method on the two-dimensional Ising model, achieving an exponential reduction in statistical error with increasing bond dimension cutoff. Furthermore, we address the sign problem in systems with negative weights, showing significant improvements in average signs as bond dimension cutoff increases. The proposed framework provides a robust solution for accurate statistical estimation in complex systems, paving the way for broader applications in computational physics and beyond.

Abstract:The authors continue a series of articles studying certain unitary representations of the Richard Thompson groups $F,T,V$ called Pythagorean. They all extend to the Cuntz algebra $\mathcal{O}$ and conversely all representations of $\mathcal{O}$ are of this form. Via this approach we introduce a tensor product for a large class of representations of $F,T,V,\mathcal{O}$. We prove that a sub-category forms a tensor category and perform a number of explicit computations of fusion rules.

Abstract:We study how tensor products of representations decompose when restricted from a compact Lie algebra to one of its subalgebras. In particular, we are interested in tensor squares which are tensor products of a representation with itself. We show in a classification-free manner that the sum of multiplicities and the sum of squares of multiplicities in the corresponding decomposition of a tensor square into irreducible representations has to strictly grow when restricted from a compact semisimple Lie algebra to a proper subalgebra. For this purpose, relevant details on tensor products of representations are compiled from the literature. Since the sum of squares of multiplicities is equal to the dimension of the commutant of the tensor-square representation, it can be determined by linear-algebra computations in a scenario where an a priori unknown Lie algebra is given by a set of generators which might not be a linear basis. Hence, our results offer a test to decide if a subalgebra of a compact semisimple Lie algebra is a proper one without calculating the relevant Lie closures, which can be naturally applied in the field of controlled quantum systems.

Abstract:This work is devoted to the study Translation-Invariant (TI) Matrix Product State (MPS) representations of quantum states with periodic boundary conditions (PBC). We pursue two directions: we introduce new methods for constructing TI MPS representations of a certain class of TI states and study their optimality in terms of their bond dimension. We pay particular attention to the $n$-party $W$-state and construct a TI MPS representation of bond dimension $\left \lfloor \dfrac{n}{2} \right \rfloor +1$ for it. We further study properties of this class and show that we can can always achieve a bond dimension of $n$ for TI MPS representation of states in this class. In the framework of studying optimality of TI MPS representations with PBC, we study the optimal bond dimension $d(\psi)$ for a given state $\psi$. In particular we introduce a deterministic algorithm for the search of $d(\psi)$ for an arbitary state. Using numerical methods, we verify the optimality of our previous construction for the $n$-party $W$-state for small $n$.

Abstract:We study a multivariate Markov chain on the symmetric group with remarkable enumerative properties. We conjecture that the stationary distribution of this Markov chain can be expressed in terms of positive sums of Schubert polynomials. This Markov chain is a multivariate generalization of a Markov chain introduced by the first author in the study of random affine Weyl group elements.

Abstract:We study the derived tensor product of the representation rings of subgroups of a given compact Lie group G. That is, given two such subgroups H_1 and H_2, we study the tensor product of the associated representation rings R(H_1) and R(H_2) over the representation ring RG, and prove a vanishing result for the associated higher Tor-groups. This result can be viewed as a natural generalization of the Theorem of Steinberg that asserts that the representation rings of maximal rank subgroups of G are free over RG. It my also be viewed as an analogue of a result of Singhof on the cohomology of classifying spaces. We include an immediate application to the complex K-theory of biquotient manifolds.
