Abstract:We generalize the "miraculous cancellation" formulas of Alvarez-Gaumé, Witten and Kefeng Liu to a twisted version where an extra complex line bundle is involved. We also apply our result to discuss intrinsic relations between the higher dimensional Rokhlin type congruence formulas of Ochanine [O1], Finashin [F] and Zhang [Z1, 2]. In particular, an analytic proof of the Finashin congruence formula is given.

Abstract:For each integer $n\geq 1$, we construct a $\operatorname{GL}_n(\mathbb Q)$-invariant modular symbol $\bm\xi_n$ with coefficients in a space of distributions that takes values in the Milnor $K_n$-group of the modular function field. The Siegel distribution $\bm\mu$ on $\mathbb Q^2$, with values in the modular function field, serves as the building block for $\bm\xi_n$; we define $\bm\xi_n$ essentially by taking the $n$-Steinberg product of $\bm\mu$. The most non-trivial part of this construction is the cocycle property of $\bm\xi_n$; we prove it by using an induction on $n$ based on the first two cases $\bm\xi_1$ and $\bm\xi_2$; the first case is trivial, and the second case essentially follows from the fact that Beilinson-Kato elements in the Milnor $K_2$-group modulo torsion satisfy the Manin relations.

Abstract:To every $k$-dimensional modular invariant vector space we associate a modular form on $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$ of weight $2k$. We explore number theoretic properties of this form and find a sufficient condition for its vanishing which yields modular identities (e.g., Ramanujan-Watson's modular identities). Furthermore, we focus on a family of modular invariant spaces coming from suitable two-dimensional spaces via the symmetric power construction. In particular, we consider a two-dimensional space spanned by graded dimensions of certain level one modules for the affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra of type $D_4^{(1)}$. In this case, the reduction modulo prime $p=2k+3 \geq 5$ of the modular form associated to the $k$-th symmetric power classifies supersingular elliptic curves in characteristic $p$. This construction also gives a new interpretation of certain modular forms studied by Kaneko and Zagier.

For some n -dimensional cohyperplane G -representations V over Fp , we show that Fp[V⊕V*]G , the invariant ring of a vector and a covector is a complete intersection by exhibiting an explicit generating set (in fact, a SAGBI basis) and exposing all relations among the generators.

Abstract:We construct invariants of birational maps with values in the Kontsevich--Tschinkel group and in the truncated Grothendieck groups of varieties. These invariants are morphisms of groupoids and are well-suited to investigating the structure of the Grothendieck ring and L-equivalence. Building on known constructions of L-equivalence, we prove new unexpected results about Cremona groups.

Abstract:Let $k:=\mathbb{F}_q$ be the finite field of $q$ elements and $E$ an elliptic curve over $k$ given by the equation $f(x,y) = 0$. Let $k[E]$ the affine coordinate ring and $k(E)$ the field of fractions. We fix a place $\infty$ of $k(E)$ and let $k_{\infty}$ be the completion. The group ${\rm{GL}}_2(k[E])$ acts on the symmetric space $\mathcal{T}$, the Bruhat-Tits building of ${\rm{PGL}}_2(k_{\infty})$. In this paper, we use the quotient space to construct the space of modular symbols over $K(E)$. We prove that this space is given by an explicit set of generators and their relations.

Abstract:We study the quantum modular properties of $\widehat Z{}^G$-invariants of closed three-manifolds. Higher depth quantum modular forms are expected to play a central role for general three-manifolds and gauge groups $G$. In particular, we conjecture that for plumbed three-manifolds whose plumbing graphs have $n$ junction nodes with definite signature and for rank $r$ gauge group $G$, that $\widehat Z{}^G$ is related to a quantum modular form of depth $nr$. We prove this for $G={\rm SU}(3)$ and for an infinite class of three-manifolds (weakly negative Seifert with three exceptional fibers). We also investigate the relation between the quantum modularity of $\widehat Z{}^G$-invariants of the same three-manifold with different gauge group $G$. We conjecture a recursive relation among the iterated Eichler integrals relevant for $\widehat Z{}^G$ with $G={\rm SU}(2)$ and ${\rm SU}(3)$, for negative Seifert manifolds with three exceptional fibers. This is reminiscent of the recursive structure among mock modular forms playing the role of Vafa-Witten invariants for ${\rm SU}(N)$. We prove the conjecture when the three-manifold is moreover an integral homological sphere.

For the group generated by the standard involution τ:A→A$$\tau : A \rightarrow A$$, our formulas arise from the enumerative geometry of the orbifold Kummer surface [A/τ]$$[A/\tau ]$$. We prove that a virtual count of curves in the stack is governed by χy(Hilb(A)τ)$$\chi _{y}(\text {Hilb}(A)^{\tau })$$. Moreover, the coefficients of ZA,τ$$Z_{A, \tau }$$ are true (weighted) counts of rational curves, consistent with hyperelliptic counts of Bryan, Oberdieck, Pandharipande, and Yin.

On the Classification of Modular Congruence Families

Abstract:Congruence families, i.e., $\ell$-adic convergence for well-defined arithmetic subsequences, is a commonplace phenomenon for the coefficients of modular forms. Such families superficially resemble one another, but they often vary substantially in difficulty. Moreover, the critical difficulties associated with a given family will generally manifest themselves at the end stages of an attempted proof. We give a conjectured classification system of congruence families for the coefficients of modular eta quotients by studying the topology of the associated modular curve.

Schertz style class invariants for higher degree CM fields

Abstract:Special values of Siegel modular functions for $\operatorname{Sp} (\mathbb{Z})$ generate class fields of CM fields. They also yield abelian varieties with a known endomorphism ring. Smaller alternative values of modular functions that lie in the same class fields (class invariants) thus help to speed up the computation of those mathematical objects. We show that modular functions for the subgroup $\Gamma^0 (N)\subseteq \operatorname{Sp}(\mathbb{Z})$ yield class invariants under some splitting conditions on $N$, generalising results due to Schertz from classical modular functions to Siegel modular functions. We show how to obtain all Galois conjugates of a class invariant by evaluating the same modular function in CM period matrices derived from an \emph{$N$-system}. Such a system consists of quadratic polynomials with coefficients in the real-quadratic subfield satisfying certain congruence conditions modulo $N$. We also examine conditions under which the minimal polynomial of a class invariant is real. Examples show that we may obtain class invariants that are much smaller than in previous constructions.

Abstract:A bstract We revisit the modular flavor symmetry from a more general perspective. The scalar modular forms of principal congruence subgroups are extended to the vector-valued modular forms, then we have more possible finite modular groups including Γ N and $$ {\Gamma}_N^{\prime } $$ Γ N ′ as the flavor symmetry. The theory of vector-valued modular forms provides a method of differential equation to construct the modular multiplets, and it also reveals the simple structure of the modular invariant mass models. We review the theory of vector-valued modular forms and give general results for the lower dimensional vector-valued modular forms. The general finite modular groups are listed up to order 72. We apply the formalism to construct two new lepton mass models based on the finite modular groups A 4 × Z 2 and GL(2, 3).

Abstract:A super-modular category is a unitary premodular category with Muger center equivalent to the symmetric unitary category of super-vector spaces. Super-modular categories are important alternatives to modular categories as any unitary premodular category is the equivariantization of a either a modular or super-modular category. Physically, super-modular categories describe universal properties of quasiparticles in fermionic topological phases of matter. In general one does not have a representation of the modular group SL(2, Z) associated to a super-modular category, but it is possible to obtain a representation of the (index 3) theta-subgroup: Gamma(theta) < SL(2, Z). We study the image of this representation and conjecture a super-modular analogue of the Ng-Schauenburg congruence subgroup theorem for modular categories, namely that the kernel of the Gamma(theta) representation is a congruence subgroup. We prove this conjecture for any super-modular category that is a subcategory of modular category of twice its dimension, i.e., admitting a minimal modular extension. Conjecturally, every super-modular category admits (precisely 16) minimal modular extensions and our conjecture would be a consequence.

Infinite families of potential modular data related to quadratic categories

Abstract:We present several infinite families of potential modular data motivated by examples of Drinfeld centers of quadratic categories. In each case, the input is a pair of involutive metric groups with Gauss sums differing by a sign, along with some conditions on the fixed points of the involutions and the relative sizes of the groups. From this input we construct $S$ and $T$ matrices which satisfy the modular relations and whose Verlinde coefficients are non-negative integers. We also check certain restrictions coming from Frobenius-Schur indicators. These families generalize Evans and Gannon's conjectures for the modular data associated to generalized Haagerup and near-group categories for odd groups, and include the modular data of the Drinfeld centers of almost all known quadratic categories. In addition to the subfamilies which are conjecturally realized by centers of quadratic categories, these families include many examples of potential modular data which do not correspond to known types of modular tensor categories.

Abstract:Symbol is used to describe the Springer correspondence for the classical groups. We prove two structure theorems of symbol. We propose a construction of the symbol of the rigid partitions in the $B_n$, $C_n$, and $D_n$ theories. This construction is natural and consists of two basic building blocks. Using this construction, we give closed formulas of symbols for the rigid partitions in the $B_n, C_n$, and $D_n$ theories. One part of the closed formula is universal and other parts are determined by the specific theory. A comparison of between this closed formula and the old one is made. Previous results can be illustrated more clearly by this closed formula.
