Abstract:In this article, we study infinite friezes arising from cluster categories of affine type $D$ and determine the growth coefficients for these friezes. We prove that for each affine type $D$, the friezes given by the tubes all have the same growth behavior.

Abstract:It is known that any infinite periodic frieze comes from a triangulation of an annulus by Theorem 4.6 of [K. Baur, M. J. Parsons and M. Tschabold, Infinite friezes, European J. Combin. 54 (2016) 220–237]. In this paper, we show that each infinite periodic frieze determines a triangulation of an annulus in essentially a unique way. Since each triangulation of an annulus determines a pair of friezes, we study such pairs and show how they determine each other. We study associated module categories and determine the growth coefficient of the pair of friezes in terms of modules as well as their quiddity sequences.

Abstract:For a cluster algebra $\mathcal{A}$ over $\mathbb{Q}$ of geometric type, a $\textit{frieze}$ of $\mathcal{A}$ is defined to be a $\mathbb{Q}$-algebra homomorphism from $\mathcal{A}$ to $\mathbb{Q}$ that takes positive integer values on all cluster variables and all frozen variables. We present some basic facts on friezes, including frieze testing criteria, the notion of $\textit{frieze points}$ when $\mathcal{A}$ is finitely generated, and pullbacks of friezes under certain $\mathbb{Q}$-algebra homomorphisms. When the cluster algebra $\mathcal{A}$ is acyclic, we define $\textit{frieze patterns associated to acyclic seeds of }\mathcal{A}$, generalizing the $\textit{ frieze patterns with coefficients of type } A$ studied by J. Propp and by M. Cuntz, T. Holm, and P. Jorgensen, and we give a sufficient condition for such frieze patterns to be equivalent to friezes. For the special cases when $\mathcal{A}$ has an acyclic seed with either trivial coefficients, principal coefficients, or what we call the $\textit{BFZ coefficients}$ (named after A. Berenstein, S. Fomin, and A. Zelevinsky), we identify frieze points of $\mathcal{A}$ both geometrically as certain positive integral points in explicitly described affine varieties and Lie theoretically (in the finite case) in terms of reduced double Bruhat cells and generalized minors on the associated semi-simple Lie groups. Furthermore, extending the gliding symmetry of the classical Coxeter frieze patterns of type $A$, we determine the symmetry of frieze patterns of any finite type with arbitrary coefficients.

Abstract:Frieze patterns are combinatorial objects that are deeply related to cluster theory. Determinants of frieze patterns arise from triangular regions of the frieze, and they have been considered in previous works by Broline-Crowe-Isaacs, and by Baur-Marsh. In this article, we introduce a new type of matrix for any infinite frieze pattern. This approach allows us to give a new proof of the frieze determinant result given by Baur-Marsh.

Abstract:We construct continuous Frobenius categories of type $D$. The stable categories of these Frobenius categories are cluster categories which contain the standard cluster categories of type $D_n$. When $n=\infty$, maximal compatible sets of indecomposable objects are laminations of the punctured disk. Discrete laminations are clusters. This new construction is topological and it also gives an algebraic interpretation of the "tagged arcs" which occur in Schiffler's geometric description of clusters of type $D_n$.

Abstract:Finite frieze patterns with entries in $\mathbb{Z}[\lambda_{p_1},\ldots,\lambda_{p_s}]$ where $\{p_1,\ldots,p_s\} \subseteq \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 3}$ and $\lambda_p = 2 \cos(\pi/p)$ were shown to have a connection to dissected polygons by Holm and Jorgensen. We extend their work by studying the connection between infinite frieze patterns with such entries and dissections of annuli and once-punctured discs. We give an algorithm to determine whether a frieze pattern with entries in $\mathbb{Z}[\lambda_{p_1},\ldots,\lambda_{p_s}]$, finite or infinite, comes from a dissected surface. We introduce quotient dissections as a realization for some frieze patterns unrealizable by an ordinary dissection. We also introduce two combinatorial interpretations for entries of frieze patterns from dissected surfaces. These interpretations are a generalization of matchings introduced by Broline, Crowe, and Isaacs for finite frieze patterns over $\mathbb{Z}$.

Cluster structures on braid varieties

Abstract:We show the existence of cluster $\mathcal{A}$-structures and cluster Poisson structures on any braid variety, for any simple Lie group. The construction is achieved via weave calculus and a tropicalization of Lusztig's coordinates. Several explicit seeds are provided and the quiver and cluster variables are readily computable. We prove that these upper cluster algebras equal their cluster algebras, show local acyclicity, and explicitly determine their DT-transformations as the twist automorphisms of braid varieties. The main result also resolves the conjecture of B. Leclerc on the existence of cluster algebra structures on the coordinate rings of open Richardson varieties.

Abstract:The loop graph of an infinite type surface is an infinite diameter hyperbolic graph first studied in detail by Juliette Bavard. An important open problem in the study of infinite type surfaces is to describe the boundary of the loop graph as a space of geodesic laminations. We approach this problem by constructing the first examples of 2-filling rays on infinite type surfaces. Such rays accumulate onto geodesic laminations which are in some sense filling, but without strong enough properties to correspond to points in the boundary of the loop graph. We give multiple constructions using both a hands-on combinatorial approach and an approach using train tracks and automorphisms of flat surfaces. In addition, our approaches are sufficiently robust to describe all 2-filling rays with certain other basic properties as well as to produce uncountably many distinct mapping class group orbits.

Abstract:We investigate positive braid Legendrian links via a Floer-theoretic approach and prove that their augmentation varieties are cluster K 2 (aka. -) varieties. Using the exact Lagrangian cobordisms of Legendrian links in Ekholm et al. (J. Eur. Math. Soc. 18(11):2627–2689, 2016), we prove that a large family of exact Lagrangian fillings of positive braid Legendrian links correspond to cluster seeds of their augmentation varieties. We solve the infinite-filling problem for positive braid Legendrian links; i.e., whenever a positive braid Legendrian link is not of type ADE, it admits infinitely many exact Lagrangian fillings up to Hamiltonian isotopy.

Abstract:A frieze on a polygon is a map from the diagonals of the polygon to an integral domain which respects the Ptolemy relation. Conway and Coxeter previously studied positive friezes over $\mathbb{Z}$ and showed that they are in bijection with triangulations of a polygon. We extend their work by studying friezes over $\mathbb Z[\sqrt{2}]$ and their relationships to dissections of polygons. We largely focus on the characterization of unitary friezes that arise from dissecting a polygon into triangles and quadrilaterals. We identify a family of dissections that give rise to unitary friezes and conjecture that this gives a complete classification of dissections which admit a unitary frieze.

Limits of Convex Projective Surfaces and Finsler Metrics

Abstract:We show that for certain sequences escaping to infinity in the $\operatorname{SL}_3\mathbb{R}$ Hitchin component, growth rates of trace functions are described by natural Finsler metrics. More specifically, as the Labourie-Loftin cubic differential gets big, logarithms of trace functions are approximated by lengths in a Finsler metric which has triangular unit balls and is defined directly in terms of the cubic differential. This is equivalent to a conjecture of Loftin from 2006 which has recently been proven by Loftin, Tamburelli, and Wolf, though phrasing the result in terms of Finsler metrics is new and leads to stronger results with simpler proofs. From our perspective, the result is a corollary of a more local theorem which may have other applications. The key ingredient of the proof is another asymmetric Finsler metric, defined on any convex projective surface, recently defined by Danciger and Stecker, in which lengths of loops are logarithms of eigenvalues. We imitate work of Nie to show that, as the cubic differential gets big, Danciger and Stecker's metric converges to our Finsler metric with triangular unit balls. While Loftin, Tamburelli, and Wolf address cubic differential rays, our methods also address sequences of representations which are asymptotic to cubic differential rays, giving us more insight into natural compactifications of the moduli space of convex projective surfaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove various results on boundedness and singularities of Fano fibrations and of Fano type fibrations. A Fano fibration is a projective morphism X→ Z of algebraic varieties with connected fibres such that X is Fano over Z, that is, X has "good" singularities and -K_X is ample over Z. A Fano type fibration is similarly defined where X is assumed to be close to being Fano over Z. This class includes many central ingredients of birational geometry such as Fano varieties, Mori fibre spaces, flipping and divisorial contractions, crepant models, germs of singularities, etc. We develop the theory in the more general framework of log Calabi-Yau fibrations. Dans cet article, nous prouvons divers résultats sur les limites et les singularités de fibrations de Fano et les fibrations de type Fano. Une fibration de Fano est un morphisme projectif X→ Z de variétés algébriques à fibres connexes tel que X est Fano sur Z, c'est-à-dire que X a de "bonnes" singularités et -K_X est ample sur Z. Une fibration de type Fano est définie de façon similaire quand X est supposé être proche d'être Fano sur Z. Cette classe comprend de nombreux ingrédients centraux de géométrie birationnelle tels que les variétés de fano, les espaces de fibres Mori, le flip et les contractions divisorielles, les modèles répétiteurs, les germes de singularités, etc. Nous développons la théorie dans le cadre plus général des log-fibrations de Calabi-Yau.

Abstract:The Frobenius-Perron theory of an endofunctor of a k \Bbbk -linear category (recently introduced in Chen et al. [Algebra Number Theory 13 (2019), pp. 2005–2055]) provides new invariants for abelian and triangulated categories. Here we study Frobenius-Perron type invariants for derived categories of commutative and noncommutative projective schemes. In particular, we calculate the Frobenius-Perron dimension for domestic and tubular weighted projective lines, define Frobenius-Perron generalizations of Calabi-Yau and Kodaira dimensions, and provide examples. We apply this theory to the derived categories associated to certain Artin-Schelter regular and finite-dimensional algebras.

Deformation Theory for Finite Cluster Complexes

Abstract:We study the deformation theory of the Stanley-Reisner rings associated to cluster complexes for skew-symmetrizable cluster algebras of geometric and finite cluster type. In particular, we show that in the skew-symmetric case, these cluster complexes are unobstructed, generalizing a result of Ilten and Christophersen in the $A_n$ case. We also study the connection between cluster algebras with universal coefficients and cluster complexes. We show that for a full rank positively graded cluster algebra $\mathcal{A}$ of geometric and finite cluster type, the cluster algebra $\mathcal{A}^{\mathrm{univ}}$ with universal coefficients may be recovered as the universal family over a partial closure of a torus orbit in a multigraded Hilbert scheme. Likewise, we show that under suitable hypotheses, the cluster algebra $\mathcal{A}^{\mathrm{univ}}$ may be recovered as the coordinate ring for a certain torus-invariant semiuniversal deformation of the Stanley-Reisner ring of the cluster complex. We apply these results to show that for any cluster algebra $\mathcal{A}$ of geometric and finite cluster type, $\mathcal{A}$ is Gorenstein, and $\mathcal{A}$ is unobstructed if it is skew-symmetric. Moreover, if $\mathcal{A}$ has enough frozen variables then it has no non-trivial torus-invariant deformations. We also study the Gröbner theory of the ideal of relations among cluster and frozen variables of $\mathcal{A}$. As a byproduct we generalize previous results in this setting obtained by Bossinger, Mohammadi and Nájera Chávez for Grassmannians of planes and $\text{Gr}(3,6)$.

Geometric Eisenstein series I: finiteness theorems

Abstract:We develop the theory of geometric Eisenstein series and constant term functors for $\ell$-adic sheaves on stacks of bundles on the Fargues-Fontaine curve. In particular, we prove essentially optimal finiteness theorems for these functors, analogous to the usual finiteness properties of parabolic inductions and Jacquet modules. We also prove a geometric form of Bernstein's second adjointness theorem, generalizing the classical result and its recent extension to more general coefficient rings proved in [Dat-Helm-Kurinczuk-Moss]. As applications, we decompose the category of sheaves on $\mathrm{Bun}_G$ into cuspidal and Eisenstein parts, and show that the gluing functors between strata of $\mathrm{Bun}_G$ are continuous in a very strong sense.

Friezes from surfaces and Farey triangulation

Abstract:We provide a classification of positive integral friezes on marked bordered surfaces. The classification is similar to the Conway--Coxeter's one: positive integral friezes are in one-to-one correspondence with ideal triangulations supplied with a collection of rescaling constants assigned to punctures. For every triangulation the set of the collections of constants is finite and is completely determined by the valencies of vertices in the triangulation. In particular, it follows that the number of non-equivalent friezes on bordered surfaces is finite, and all friezes on unpunctured surfaces are unitary.

Internal sums for synthetic fibered $(\infty,1)$-categories

Abstract:We give structural results about bifibrations of (internal) $(\infty,1)$-categories with internal sums. This includes a higher version of Moens' Theorem, characterizing cartesian bifibrations with extensive aka stable and disjoint internal sums over lex bases as Artin gluings of lex functors. We also treat a generalized version of Moens' Theorem due to Streicher which does not require the Beck--Chevalley condition. Furthermore, we show that also in this setting the Moens fibrations can be characterized via a condition due to Zawadowski. Our account overall follows Streicher's presentation of fibered category theory à la Bénabou, generalizing the results to the internal, higher-categorical case, formulated in a synthetic setting. Namely, we work inside simplicial homotopy type theory, which has been introduced by Riehl and Shulman as a logical system to reason about internal $(\infty,1)$-categories, interpreted as Rezk objects in any given Grothendieck--Rezk--Lurie $(\infty,1)$-topos.

Abstract:We use a class of Farey graphs introduced by the final three authors to enumerate the tame friezes over $\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}$. Using the same strategy we enumerate the tame regular friezes over $\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}$, thereby reproving a recent result of Böhmler, Cuntz, and Mabilat.

Families of affine ruled surfaces: existence of cylinders

Abstract:We show that the generic fiber of a family of smooth $\mathbb{A}^{1}$-ruled affine surfaces always carries an $\mathbb{A}^{1}$-fibration, possibly after a finite extension of the base. In the particular case where the general fibers of the family are irrational surfaces, we establish that up to shrinking the base, such a family actually factors through an $\mathbb{A}^{1}$-fibration over a certain scheme, induced by the MRC-fibration of a relative smooth projective model of the family. For affine threefolds fibered by irrational $\mathbb{A}^{1}$-ruled surfaces, this induced $\mathbb{A}^{1}$-fibration can also be obtained from a relative Minimal Model Program applied to a relative smooth projective model of the family.

Finite Repetitive Generalized Cluster Complexes and D-Cluster Categories

Abstract:For any positive integer n, we construct an n-repetitive generalized cluster complex (a simplicial complex) associated with a given finite root system by defining a compatibility degree on the n-repetitive set of the colored root system. This simplicial complex includes Fomin-Reading's generalized cluster complex as a special case when n=1. We also introduce the intermediate coverings (called generalized d-cluster categories) of d-cluster categories of hereditary algebras, and study the d-cluster tilting objects and their endomorphism algebras in those categories. In particular, we show that the endomorphism algebras of d-cluster tilting objects in the generalized d-cluster categories provide the (finite) coverings of the corresponding (usual) d-cluster tilted algebras. Moreover, we prove that the generalized d-cluster categories of hereditary algebras of finite representation type provide a category model for the n-repetitive generalized cluster complexes.
