Abstract:We give a sufficient criterion for the Chow or algebraic bordism groups of an algebraic stack, localized at a set of Chern classes of line bundles, to be concentrated in some closed substack. This is a vast generalization of the torus fixed-point localization theorem in equivariant intersection theory, which is the special case of the stack quotient of a scheme $X$ by an action of a torus $T$. Taking on the one hand an algebraic stack in place of $X$, we deduce a generalization of torus localization to algebraic stacks. Taking on the other hand any algebraic group $G$ instead of $T$, we obtain a localization theorem in $G$-equivariant intersection theory.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is, in algebraic stacks, how to concentrate Chow groups or algebraic bordism groups on certain closed substacks, and maintain this concentration property after localizing by the first Chern classes of a set of line bundles. Specifically, the main contributions of the paper include:
1. **Stacky Concentration Theorem**:
- Given an Artin stack \(X\) of finite type and a closed substack \(Z\subseteq X\), and a set of line bundles \(\Sigma\), if for each geometric point \(x\in X\setminus Z\), there exists an \(L(x)\in\Sigma\) such that its restriction on \(B\text{Aut}_X(x)\) is trivial, then the push - forward map \(i_*\) induces an isomorphism:
\[
i_*: A_*(Z)[\Sigma^{-1}]\to A_*(X)[\Sigma^{-1}]
\]
where \(L\in\Sigma\) acts through the first Chern class.
2. **Torus Concentration Theorem**:
- Given an Artin stack \(X\) of finite type with an action of a torus \(T\), and a \(T\)-invariant closed substack \(Z\subseteq X\), if \(Z\) contains all \(T\)-fixed points, then the push - forward map \(i_*\) induces an isomorphism:
\[
i_*: A^T_*(Z)_{\text{loc}}\to A^T_*(X)_{\text{loc}}
\]
where the localization is carried out on the set of first Chern classes of non - trivial one - dimensional representations of \(T\).
3. **Generalization Results**:
- The paper also discusses the generalization of these results on Deligne - Mumford stacks, Artin stacks with finite stabilizers, global quotient stacks, and locally finite - type stacks.
- In particular, the paper also considers the concentration theorem under the action of a more general algebraic group \(G\) and gives the corresponding equivariant concentration theorem.
4. **Applications and Examples**:
- The paper provides several specific examples, such as the concentration theorem on the Higgs sheaf moduli space, and examples of vector bundles and abelian cones.
- These results not only theoretically extend the classical torus fixed - point localization theorem, but also have important significance in practical applications, especially in computational problems in algebraic geometry and algebraic topology.
In conclusion, by introducing new concentration theorems, this paper provides a powerful tool for understanding and dealing with intersection theory on algebraic stacks, especially when dealing with complex geometric objects with symmetry.
