Abstract:Novel collinear magnet, the altermagnet (AM) with spin-splitting energy band and zero net magnetization have attracted great interest due to its potential spintronic applications. Here, we demonstrate AM-like phases in a microscopic Kondo lattice model, widely used for heavy fermion compounds. With the framework of fermionic parton mean-field theory, we find the $d$-wave AM state can coexist with the intrinsic Kondo screening effect in such itinerant-local electron system if an alternating next-nearest-neighbor-hopping (NNNH) is included. Such alternating NNNH take nonmagnetic atoms, neglected in usual antiferromagnetism study, into account when encountering real-life candidate AM materials. The AM-like states are characterized by their spin-splitting quasiparticle bands, Fermi surface, spin-resolved distribution function and conductivity. It is suggested that the magnetic quantum oscillation and charge transport measurement can detect those AM-like phases. We hope the present work may be useful for exploring AM-like phases in $f$-electron compounds.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### What problems does this paper attempt to solve? This paper aims to explore and reveal the influence of alternating next - nearest - neighbor hopping (NNNH) on altermagnetism (AM) in heavy - fermion systems, especially through the Kondo lattice model (KLM). Specifically, the main research objectives include: 1. **Introducing alternating next - nearest - neighbor hopping**: Introduce alternating next - nearest - neighbor hoppings (t+ and t−) in the Kondo lattice model to simulate the existence of non - magnetic atoms in reality and explore their influence on the AM phase. 2. **Exploring the coexistence of AM and the Kondo effect**: It has been found that under certain conditions, the d - wave AM state can coexist with the intrinsic Kondo screening effect. This provides a new perspective for understanding the complex many - body physics in heavy - fermion compounds. 3. **Characterizing the physical properties of the AM state**: Comprehensively characterize the physical properties of the AM state by means of spin - split quasiparticle bands, Fermi surfaces, spin - resolved distribution functions and conductivity. 4. **Proposing experimental detection methods**: It is recommended to use magnetic quantum oscillations and charge transport measurements to detect the AM state, thereby providing a theoretical basis for experimental verification. ### Core content of the paper The paper mainly focuses on the following aspects: - **Model construction**: Based on the Kondo lattice model, introduce alternating next - nearest - neighbor hopping and solve it using the fermionic large - N/parton mean - field theory. - **Phase diagram analysis**: Through numerical calculations, obtain the phase diagram including the AM state, the Kondo insulating state and the coexistence state of the two, and analyze the phase - transition behaviors under different coupling strengths. - **Characterization of physical properties**: Discuss in detail the spin - split bands of the AM state, the Fermi - surface structure and their influence on conductivity, emphasizing the potential of these properties in spintronics applications. - **Experimental verification**: Propose a method to detect the AM state through magnetic quantum oscillations and charge transport measurements, providing guidance for future experimental research. ### Formula summary To show the key formulas more clearly, the following are some important formulas involved in the paper: 1. **Hamiltonian of the Kondo lattice model**: \[ \hat{H} = -\sum_{ij,\sigma} t_{ij} \hat{c}_{i\sigma}^\dagger \hat{c}_{j\sigma} + \frac{J}{2} \sum_{j,\sigma\sigma'} \hat{c}_{j\sigma}^\dagger \vec{\sigma}_{\sigma\sigma'} \hat{c}_{j\sigma'} \cdot \hat{\vec{S}}_j \] 2. **Spin - split quasiparticle bands**: \[ E_{k\sigma}^\pm = \frac{1}{2} \left( \varepsilon_{AA}(k) + \varepsilon_{BB}(k) \pm \sqrt{(\varepsilon_{AA}(k) - \varepsilon_{BB}(k))^2 + 4\varepsilon_k^2} \right) - \mu \] 3. **Free - energy expression**: \[ f = -T \sum_{k\sigma} \left[ \ln(1 + e^{-\beta E_{c,k\sigma}^+}) + \ln(1 + e^{-\beta E_{c,k\sigma}^-}) + \ln(1 + e^{-\beta E_{f,k\sigma}^+}) + \ln(1 + e^{-\beta E_{f,k\sigma}^-}) \right] + 2N_s (Jm_cm_f - \lambda) \] 4. **Spin - resolved conductivity**: \[ \sigma_{xx}^\sigma =
