Abstract:We present here the CP asymmetries in the decay rate and angular distributions of $\tau\to K_S\pi\nu_\tau$ decays in the Standard Model (SM) and beyond (BSM). The CP asymmetries in the SM are induced by the CP violation in $K^0-\bar{K}^0$ mixing. To investigate the BSM CP-violating (CPV) effects, a model-independent analysis is performed by using the low-energy effective field theory (LEFT) framework at $\mu=2$~GeV. If one further assumes the BSM physics to stem from above the electroweak scale, the LEFT shall then be matched onto the SM effective field theory (SMEFT), the operators of which contributing to $\tau\to K_S\pi\nu_\tau$ decays will also contribute to the neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) and $D^0-\bar{D}^0$ mixing. The stringent bounds from the latter suggest that no remarkable CPV effects can be observed in either the decay rate or the angular distributions. The prospects for future measurements of these observables are also mentioned.
High Energy Physics - Phenomenology
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to measure and understand the CP violation (CPV) effect in the process of τ - lepton decaying into \(K_S\pi\nu_\tau\). Specifically, the authors focus on the CP asymmetries in the decay rate and angular distribution of τ - lepton in the framework of the Standard Model (SM) and Beyond the Standard Model (BSM). In the study, the CP - violation effect caused by \(K^0-\bar{K}^0\) mixing is particularly considered, and a model - independent analysis is carried out through the Low - Energy Effective Field Theory (LEFT) framework. In addition, if it is assumed that New Physics (NP) originates above the electro - weak scale, LEFT will be matched with the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT), and the latter's influence on τ - lepton decay will also affect the neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) and \(D^0-\bar{D}^0\) mixing. The paper also discusses the restrictive effects of these processes on the CP asymmetries in τ - lepton decay, especially the restrictions on the imaginary part coefficients of non - standard scalar and tensor interactions. The main contributions of the paper are as follows: through detailed theoretical analysis and comparison with experimental data, the possible non - standard CP - violation effects in τ - lepton decay are explored, and the observability of these effects under the current experimental precision is evaluated. At the same time, the paper also provides a prospect prediction for future experimental measurements, especially for the expected improvements in the Belle II experiment and future Tera - Z and STCF facilities.
