Abstract:We study even-parity black hole perturbations in Minimal Theory of Bigravity (MTBG). We consider the Schwarzschild solution written in the spatially-flat coordinates in the self-accelerating branch as the background solution. We clarify the gauge transformations for the $\ell=0$, $1$, and $\geq2$ modes with $\ell$ being the angular multipole moments under the joint foliation-preserving diffeomorphism transformation. Requiring that the asymptotic regions in the physical and fiducial sectors share the same Minkowski vacua, the solution to the $\ell=0$ perturbations can be absorbed by a redefinition of the Schwarzschild background. In order to analyze the $\ell=1$ and $\geq 2$ modes, for simplicity we focus on the effectively massless case, where the constant parameter measuring the ratio of the proper times between the two sectors is set to unity and the effective mass terms in the equations of motion vanish. We also find that as a particular solution all the $\ell=1$ perturbations vanish by imposing their regularity at spatial infinity. For each of the $\ell\geq 2$ modes, in the effectively massless case, we highlight the existence of the expected two propagating modes and four instantaneous modes.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to study the properties of dipole - symmetric black hole perturbations within the framework of the Minimal Theory of Bigravity (MTBG). Specifically, the author focuses on dipole - symmetric perturbations in the background of the Schwarzschild solution in the self - accelerating branch. The main research objectives include:
1. **Clarifying gauge transformations in different modes**: For the modes of \( \ell = 0 \), \( \ell = 1 \) and \( \ell \geq 2 \), the author analyzes in detail the gauge transformations of these modes under the diffeomorphism transformation that jointly preserves the foliation structure.
2. **Analyzing high - order multipole moment modes in the effectively massless case**: To simplify the analysis, the author pays special attention to the effectively massless case, that is, the ratio of the proper time between the two metrics is set to 1, so that the effective mass term disappears in the equation of motion. In this case, the author expects to find two propagation modes and four instantaneous modes.
3. **Investigating low - order multipole moment modes**: For the modes of \( \ell = 0 \) and \( \ell = 1 \), the author shows that these modes have no propagation degrees of freedom and gives the exact analytical solutions of these modes. In particular, all the time - free functions can be fixed by appropriate boundary conditions. For the \( \ell = 0 \) mode, the perturbation solution can be absorbed by redefining the Schwarzschild background; for the \( \ell = 1 \) mode, all perturbation components are zero by requiring the regularity of the physical and calibrated metrics at spatial infinity.
4. **Verifying the consistency of the theory**: Through these analyses, the author hopes to verify the consistency and validity of the MTBG theory in dealing with black hole perturbations, especially in the self - accelerating branch.
### Specific research content
- **Selection of background solution**: The author selects the Schwarzschild solution in the self - accelerating branch as the background, which is written in the spatially flat coordinate system.
- **Analysis of gauge transformation**: The gauge transformations for different modes are derived in detail, especially for the modes of \( \ell = 0 \), \( \ell = 1 \) and \( \ell \geq 2 \).
- **Analysis in the effectively massless case**: By setting the ratio of the proper time between the two metrics to 1, the analysis of high - order multipole moment modes is simplified, and two propagation modes and four instantaneous modes are found.
- **Analytical solutions of low - order multipole moment modes**: For the modes of \( \ell = 0 \) and \( \ell = 1 \), exact analytical solutions are given, and all the time - free functions are fixed by appropriate boundary conditions.
### Conclusion
Through these analyses, the author verifies the consistency and validity of the MTBG theory in dealing with dipole - symmetric black hole perturbations, especially in the self - accelerating branch. These results provide an important basis for further research on the application of the MTBG theory in other physical scenarios.
