On exact products of two dihedral groups

Abstract:An exact product of two finite groups $H$ and $K$ is a finite group $X$ which contains $H$ and $K$ as subgroups, satisfying $X=HK$ and $H\cap K=\{1_X\}$. In this paper, we provide a classification of the exact products of two dihedral groups of orders $2m$ and $2n$ for all odd numbers $m,n\geq 3$.

Abstract:A finite group G is an exact product of two subgroups A and B if G = AB and A∩B={1G} . In this paper, for all odd numbers k≥3 , using the theory of skew morphisms and associated extended power functions, we present a classification of exact products of a cyclic group and a dihedral group D2k . As an application the regular generalized Cayley maps of odd valency over cyclic groups are classified.

Abstract:Given a finite group $G$, a group $X$ is called a dihedral-product group of $G$ if $X=GD$ where $D$ is a finite dihedral group. In particular, it is called a dihedral-skew product group of $G$ if $G\cap D=1$ and $D$ has a trivial core in $X$. In this paper, dihedral-skew product groups of all nonabelian simple groups are classified and dihedral-product groups of all nonabelian simple groups are characterized.

Abstract:In this note, we consider relative difference sets with the parameter (m, 2, m - 1, m-2/2) in a group G relative to a subgroup N. In the splitting case, G = H x N, we give a lower bound for the size of the commutator group H', and we show that H can not have a homomorphic image which is generalized dihedral. In the non-splitting case, we prove that there is no (2n, 2, 2n - 1, n - 1) relative difference set, in a generalized dihedral group of order 4n, n > 1.

Abstract:Let $X(Q)=QC$ be a group, where $Q$ is a generalized quaternion group and $C$ is a cyclic group such that $Q\cap C=1$. In this paper, $X(Q)$ will be characterized and moreover, a complete classification for that will be given, provided $C$ is core-free. For the reason of self-constraint, in this paper a classification of the group $X(D)=DC$ is also given, where $D$ is a dihedral group and $C$ is a cyclic group such that $D\cap C=1$ and $C$ is core-free. Remind that the group $X(D)$ was recently classified in [12], based on a number of papers on skew-morphisms of dihedral groups. In this paper, a different approach from that in [12] will be used.

Abstract:We investigate near-factorizations of nonabelian groups, concentrating on dihedral groups. We show that some known constructions of near-factorizations in dihedral groups yield equivalent near-factorizations. In fact, there are very few known examples of nonequivalent near-factorizations in dihedral or other nonabelian groups; we provide some new examples with the aid of the computer. We also analyse a construction for near-factorizations in dihedral groups from near-factorizations in cyclic groups, due to Pêcher, and we investigate when nonequivalent near-factorizations can be obtained by this method.

Abstract:Let $m$ be a positive integer. A group $G$ is said to be an $m$-DCI-group or an $m$-CI-group if $G$ has the $k$-DCI property or $k$-CI property for all positive integers $k$ at most $m$, respectively. Let $G$ be a dihedral group of order $2n$ with $n\geq 3$. Qu and Yu proved that $G$ is an $m$-DCI-group or $m$-CI-group, for every $m\in \{1,2,3\}$, if and only if $n$ is odd. In this paper, it is shown that $G$ is a $4$-DCI-group if and only if $n$ is odd and not divisible by $9$, and $G$ is a $4$-CI-group if and only if $n$ is odd.

Abstract:Recall that an algebraic module is a KG-module that satisfies a polynomial with integer coefficients, with addition and multiplication given by direct sum and tensor product. In this article we prove that if L is a component of the (stable) Auslander-Reiten quiver for a dihedral 2-group consisting of non-periodic modules, then there is at most one algebraic module on L.

Abstract:A Cayley digraph of a group G with respect to a subset S of G is called a CI-digraph if for every Cayley digraph isomorphic to , there exists an such that . For a positive integer m , G is said to have the m -DCI property if all Cayley digraphs of G with out-valency m are CI-digraphs. Li (European J Combin 18:655–665, 1997) gave a necessary condition for cyclic groups to have the m -DCI property, and in this paper, we find a necessary condition for dihedral groups to have the m -DCI property. Let be the dihedral group of order 2 n , and assume that has the m -DCI property for some . It is shown that n is odd, and if further for an odd prime divisor p of n , then . Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime, and $D_{2p}=\langle \tau,\sigma\mid \tau^p=\sigma^2=e,\sigma\tau\sigma=\tau^{-1}\rangle$ the dihedral group of order $2p$. In this paper, we provide the number of (connected) Cayley (di-)graphs on $D_{2p}$ up to isomorphism by using the Pólya enumeration theorem. Abstract:Counting homomorphisms between cyclic groups is a common exercise in a first course in abstract algebra. A similar problem, accessible at the same level, is to count the number of group homomorphisms from a dihedral group of order $2m$ into a dihedral group of order $2n$. While the solution requires only elementary group theory, the result does not appear in the literature or in the usual texts. As the solution may be of interest, particularly to those teaching undergraduate abstract algebra, it is provided in this note.

There is an induced homomorphism from the group of diffeomorphisms of M to the automorphism group of Hk(M;Z). Abstract:Cyclic sieving is a well-known phenomenon where certain interesting polynomials, especially $q$-analogues, have useful interpretations related to actions and representations of the cyclic group. We propose a definition of sieving for an arbitrary group $G$ and study it for the dihedral group $I_2(n)$ of order $2n$. This requires understanding the generators of the representation ring of the dihedral group. For $n$ odd, we exhibit several instances of dihedral sieving which involve the generalized Fibonomial coefficients, recently studied by Amdeberhan, Chen, Moll, and Sagan. We also exhibit an instance of dihedral sieving involving Garsia and Haiman's $(q,t)$-Catalan numbers.

Abstract:In this paper, we compute the homology group and cohomology algebra of various polyhedral product objects uniformly from the point of view of diagonal tensor product. As applications, we introduce the polyhedral product method into commutative algebra and show that the homotopy types of polyhedral product spaces depend on not only the homotopy type of each summand pair but also on the character coproduct of the pair.

Abstract:We provide an explicit computation of the cohomology groups (with untwisted coefficients) of semidirect products of the form $\mathbb{Z}^n\rtimes \mathbb{Z}/m$ with $m$ free of squares, by means of formulas that only depend on $n$, $m$ and the action of $\mathbb{Z}/m$ on $\mathbb{Z}^n$. We want to highlight the fact that we are not impossing any conditions on the $\mathbb{Z}/m$-action on $\mathbb{Z}^n$, and as far as we know our formulas are the first in the literature in this generality. This generalizes previous computations of Lück-Davis and Adem-Ge-Pan-Petrosyan. In order to show that our formulas are usable, we develop a concrete example of the form $\mathbb{Z}^5\rtimes \mathbb{Z}/6$ where its cohomology groups are described in full detail.

Abstract:Skew morphisms, which generalise automorphisms for groups, provide a fundamental tool for the study of regular Cayley maps and, more generally, for finite groups with a complementary factorisation $X = GY$, where $Y$ is cyclic and core-free in $X$. $X$ is called the skew product group associated with $G$ and $Y$. In this paper, we classify skew product groups for the maximal class 2-groups.

In particular, the random graph product of a sequence of finite groups is a rational duality group with probability tending to 1 as n goes to infinity.
