Abstract:In this paper, we consider a reaction-diffusion-advection SIS epidemic model with saturated incidence rate and linear source. We study the uniform bounds of parabolic system and some asymptotic behavior of the basic reproduction number $\mathcal{R}_0$, according to which the threshold-type dynamics are given. Furthermore, we show the globally asymptotic stability of the endemic equilibrium in a special case with a large saturated incidence rate. Meanwhile, we investigate the effects of diffusion, advection, saturation and linear source on the asymptotic profiles of the endemic equilibrium. Our study shows that advection may induce the concentration phenomenon and the disease will be eradicated with small dispersal rate of infected individuals. Moreover, our results also reveal that the linear source can enhance persistence of infectious disease and large saturation can help speed up the elimination of disease.
Analysis of PDEs
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to study the spread dynamics of diseases in the environment in the reaction - diffusion - convection SIS epidemic model with linear source terms and saturated incidences. Specifically, the author focuses on the following aspects: 1. **Asymptotic behavior of the basic reproduction number \(R_0\)**: Some asymptotic properties of the basic reproduction number \(R_0\) are studied, as well as its relationship with the threshold dynamics of the system. According to the value of \(R_0\), it can be determined whether the disease will persist in the population or eventually disappear. 2. **Global asymptotic stability of the endemic equilibrium point**: In specific cases, the global asymptotic stability of the endemic equilibrium point (EE) is proved, that is, regardless of the initial conditions, the system will eventually approach this equilibrium point. 3. **Concentration behavior of the endemic equilibrium point**: The effects of different parameters (such as convection velocity, diffusion rate, saturated incidence, and linear source terms) on the endemic equilibrium point are explored, especially the concentration behavior in the following cases: - High convection velocity - Small diffusion rate of the susceptible population - Small diffusion rate of the infected population - Large diffusion rate of the susceptible population - Large diffusion rate of the infected population - High saturated incidence 4. **The influence of parameters on disease dynamics**: The specific effects of diffusion, convection, saturated incidence, and linear source terms on disease dynamics are analyzed. For example, convection may lead to concentration phenomena, and a small diffusion rate of infected individuals may lead to the eradication of the disease. In addition, the linear source term can enhance the persistence of the disease, and a high saturated incidence helps to accelerate the elimination of the disease. Through these studies, the author hopes to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamic mechanisms of disease transmission in complex environments and provide a theoretical basis for the control and prevention of infectious diseases.
