Abstract:Recent results on short-lived hadronic resonances obtained with the ALICE detector at LHC energies are presented. These results include system-size and collision-energy evolution of transverse momentum spectra, yields and the ratios of resonance yields to those of longer-lived particles, and nuclear modification factors. Results will be compared with model predictions.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper primarily investigates the production of short-lived meson and baryon resonances observed by the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). These studies cover the transverse momentum distributions, yields, and ratios to stable particle yields of resonances in different collision systems such as proton-proton, proton-nucleus, and heavy-ion collisions, as well as the nuclear modification factor. By comparing model predictions, the authors explore the competing effects of resonance regeneration and decay daughter scattering in the late hadronic phase. The research findings reveal that the resonance yields do not depend on the collision system but are driven by event multiplicity. For example, the average momentum of K*0 grows faster with increasing multiplicity in proton-proton and proton-lead collisions, which may be a result of color correlation effects in multiparton interactions. The ratio of K*0 to K yields decreases smoothly with increasing multiplicity, possibly due to scattering of K*0 meson decay daughters. Using these data, the time interval between chemical and kinetic freeze-outs can be estimated. In proton-proton collisions, the ratio of K*± to K significantly decreases in high multiplicity events, which is the first observation of K*/K suppression in small collision systems. The ratios of Σ*± to Λ and Ξ*0 to Ξ show an increasing trend in high multiplicity events, suggesting that the regeneration effect may exceed scattering effects. The ratios of Σ*± to π and Ξ*0 to π steadily increase with increasing multiplicity, consistent with previously measured ratios of ground-state hyperons to π. Furthermore, the study of f0 resonance indicates that its ratio to π yields is influenced by scattering effects at low momenta and does not exhibit characteristics of enhanced baryon-to-meson ratios, suggesting a structure consisting of two quarks for the f0 resonance. The nuclear modification factor QpPb of f0 shows more pronounced suppression at low momenta with increasing multiplicity, which could be attributed to scattering and radial flow effects. In conclusion, this work provides an in-depth understanding of the behavior of short-lived resonances in different collision systems and offers new clues for understanding the fundamental physics processes in hadron-hadron and hadron-nucleus interactions.
