Abstract:We consider the parabolic-elliptic Keller-Segel system in spatial dimensions $d\geq3$, which corresponds to the mass supercritical case. Some solutions become singular in finite time, an important example being backward self-similar solutions. Herrero et al. and Brenner et al. showed the existence of such profiles, countably many in dimensions $3\leq d \leq 9$ and at least two for $d\geq 10$. We establish that all these self-similar profiles are stable along a set of initial data with finite Lipschitz codimension equal to the number of instable eigenmodes. This extends the recent finding of Glogić et al. showing the stability of the fundamental self-similar profile. We obtain additional results, such as the possibility of the solutions we construct to originate from smooth and compactly supported initial data, their convergence at blow-up time, and the Lipschitz regularity of the blow-up time. Our proof extends the approach proposed in Collot et al., based on renormalizing the solution around a modulated self-similar solution, and using a spectral gap for the linearized operator in the parabolic neighbourhood of the singularity.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the stability of self - similar blow - up solutions of the Keller - Segel system in three - dimensional and higher - dimensional spaces. Specifically, the author studied the stability of self - similar solutions in the parabolic - elliptic form of the Keller - Segel system in the case of spatial dimension \(d\geq3\). These solutions become singular in a finite time, especially the backward self - similar solutions. The main contribution of the paper is to prove that all these self - similar solutions are stable under a class of initial data with finite Lipschitz co - dimension, which extends the recent findings on the stability of basic self - similar solutions.
### Specific problem description
1. **Research background**:
- The Keller - Segel system describes the chemotactic aggregation phenomenon in biochemistry, where \(u(x,t)\) represents the cell density and \(\Phi u\) represents the chemokine concentration.
- In the high - dimensional case (\(d\geq3\)), the system is in a mass super - critical state, and some solutions will blow up in a finite time.
2. **Known results**:
- Herrero et al. and Brenner et al. proved that there are countably many self - similar solutions in dimensions \(3\leq d\leq9\), and at least two self - similar solutions when \(d\geq10\).
- Glogi\'c et al. proved the stability of the basic self - similar solutions.
3. **Paper objectives**:
- Prove that all these self - similar solutions are stable under a class of initial data with finite Lipschitz co - dimension.
- Provide additional results, such as the possibility of constructing solutions from smooth and compactly supported initial data, the convergence of solutions at the blow - up time, and the Lipschitz regularity of the blow - up time.
### Main results
1. **Theorem 1.1** (Radial stability):
- For the cases of \(d = 3\) or \(d\geq4\) and \(N_0=1\), there exists \(\epsilon>0\) such that for any radial initial value \(u_0 = U_0+\tilde{u}_0\) satisfying \(\|\tilde{u}_0\|_{L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^d)}\leq\epsilon\), the solution \(u(t,x)\) blows up in a finite time \(0 < T <+\infty\) and can be decomposed as:
\[
u(t,x)=\frac{1}{T - t}U_0\left(\frac{x}{\sqrt{T - t}}\right)+\tilde{u}(t,x)
\]
- The properties of the solution include the asymptotic stability of the maximum norm, the convergence of the solution, and the Lipschitz regularity of the blow - up time.
2. **Theorem 1.3** (Radial stability of finite Lipschitz co - dimension):
- For \(3\leq d\leq9\) and \(n\geq1\), there exist functions \(c_j:V_n\rightarrow\mathbb{R}\) (\(1\leq j\leq N_n - 1\)) such that for any \(v_0\in V_n\) with \(\|v_0\|_{L^\infty}\) small enough, the initial value
\[
u_0 = U_n+v_0+\sum_{j = 1}^{N_n - 1}c_j(v_0)\phi_j
\]
generates a solution \(u(t,x)\) that blows up in a finite time \(0 < T <+\infty\) and can be decomposed as:
\[
u(t,x)=\frac{1}{T - t}U_n\left(\frac{x}{\sqrt{T - t}}\right)+\tilde{u}(t,x)
\]
- The properties of the solution include \(L^\infty\)
