Abstract:The quantum dynamics of the intrinsic metric profoundly influence the neutral excitations in the fractional quantum Hall system, as established by Haldane in 2011 \cite{Haldane2011}, and further evidenced by a recent two-photon experiment \cite{Liang2024}. Despite these advancements, a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic properties of these excitations, especially at long wavelengths, continues to elude interest. In this study, we employ tensor-network methods to investigate the neutral excitations of the Laughlin and Moore-Read states on an infinite cylinder. This investigation deepens our understanding of the excitation spectrum in regions where traditional methods do not work effectively. The spectral functions for both states reveal the presence of $S=-2$ geometric excitations. For the first time, we unveil the complex spectra of both neutral fermion and bosonic Girvin-MacDonald-Platzman modes within the excitation continuum by calculating the three-particle density response function for the Moore-Read state. Our findings support the hypothesis of emergent supersymmetry and highlight the potential for detecting neutral fermions in future experiments.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper mainly discusses the problem of neutral excitations in the fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE). In the FQHE system, neutral excitations are closely related to the intrinsic geometric properties of the system. The study uses tensor network methods, especially in the geometry of an infinite cylindrical structure, to investigate the neutral excitations of the Laughlin and Moore-Read states. This approach deepens our understanding of excitation spectra that cannot be effectively dealt with by traditional methods. The authors first revealed the existence of geometric excitations with S = -2 in the Laughlin and Moore-Read states, which are also called anyons. For the Moore-Read state, they also calculated the three-particle density response function for the first time, showing the complex spectrum of neutral fermions and bosonic magnetic flux. These findings support the hypothesis of supersymmetry and indicate the possibility of detecting neutral fermions in future experiments. In the paper, the authors calculate the dynamic spectral function using the matrix product state (MPS) renormalization group and single-mode approximation. In the Laughlin state, they observe the magnetic flux mode and confirm it as the S = -2 geometric excitation. For the Moore-Read state, they not only discover the magnetic flux mode but also find the neutral fermion mode, which is consistent with the supersymmetry theory. These results suggest that these different excitations may belong to a unified supersymmetric framework. In summary, this paper aims to address how to understand and describe the dynamic and geometric properties of neutral excitations in fractional quantum Hall systems, especially in the long-wavelength limit, and how these excitations are associated with supersymmetry.
