Abstract:Can you stretch and reform a curve such that it fills a square completely? This question dates back to 18th century, the origin of space-filling curves. It was proved affirmatively by many great mathematicians. In this document, we reconsider the problem and present a different proof using Cartesian product of Fibonacci substitution with itself. Our construction differs from other curves by design.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to construct a new space - filling curve by re - considering and proving the existence of space - filling curves, especially by using the Cartesian product of Fibonacci substitution. Specifically, the author attempts to show how to generate a continuous curve that can completely fill the unit square through this unique construction method. ### Main problem background 1. **Historical background**: - The concept of space - filling curves can be traced back to the end of the 19th century. Cantor proved in 1878 that there exists a bijective mapping between any two finite - dimensional smooth manifolds. - In 1879, Netto further proved that such a mapping must be discontinuous, which prompted researchers to look for continuous surjections. - Peano first constructed a continuous mapping from the unit interval to the unit square in 1890, called the Peano curve. - Hilbert proposed another geometric construction method in 1891, generating the Hilbert curve through a self - similar iterative system. 2. **Existing methods**: - Many other space - filling curves have also been proposed successively, such as the work of Moore, Sierpinski and Polya. - There are also Lebesgue and Schoenberg space - filling curves based on interpolation methods. 3. **New method**: - The author of this paper attempts to generate a new space - filling curve through the Cartesian product of Fibonacci substitution. This method is different from traditional geometric constructions and provides a brand - new perspective and methodology. ### Main contributions of the paper - **New construction method**: Generate a space - filling curve using the Cartesian product of Fibonacci substitution. - **Theoretical proof**: Prove that the curve generated by this method is indeed a space - filling curve and is the only connected space - filling curve. - **Approximation polygon**: Show how to gradually generate this curve through approximation polygons, providing a visualization method. ### Formula summary The key formulas involved in the paper include: - The expansion factor of Fibonacci substitution \(\phi=\frac{1 + \sqrt{5}}{2}\). - The definition of the curve \(H: [0,1]\mapsto[0,1]\times[0,1]\) is: \[ H(x)=\lim_{k\rightarrow\infty}h_k(x)\quad\text{for}\quad x\in[0,1] \] - The eigenvalue \(\phi^2\) of the Fibonacci substitution matrix, and according to the Perron - Frobenius Theorem, its multiplicity is 1. Through these methods and formulas, the author successfully constructs and verifies a new space - filling curve, enriching the theory and practice in this field.
