What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper primarily explores the application of Business Intelligence (BI) in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs, Pequeñas y Medianas Empresas) and the challenges and opportunities these enterprises face in the process of digital transformation. ### Research Background - Large enterprises have deeply engaged in digital transformation and invested substantial resources in BI projects. - SMEs are also implementing BI projects, but their scale, resources, and capabilities differ from those of large enterprises. - The paper points out that SMEs face the problem of having a large amount of data but insufficient information processing capabilities, which leads managers to often rely on personal experience for decision-making, increasing the risk of decision failure. ### Research Objectives - Analyze whether BI maturity models are applicable to SMEs. - Explore whether these models help in analyzing and selecting appropriate BI projects and evaluating the impact after project completion. - Examine the extent to which BI projects contribute to achieving digital maturity, i.e., the ability of enterprises to respond promptly to changes. ### Methodology - An explanatory research method was adopted, with in-depth studies of five cases. - Data collection included unstructured informal interviews, document reviews, etc. - Gartner's BI maturity model was used as an evaluation tool, categorizing enterprises into five different maturity levels. ### Conclusion Preview Through the above research design, the paper aims to reveal the applicability and value of BI technology in SMEs, particularly how these technologies help enterprises overcome challenges in digital transformation and ultimately achieve higher digital maturity.
