Abstract:Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA) has experienced tremendous expansion and diversity due to various shared tasks spanning several languages and fields and organized via SemEval workshops and Germeval. Nonetheless, a few shortcomings still need to be addressed, such as the lack of low-resource language evaluations and the emphasis on sentence-level analysis. To thoroughly assess ABSA techniques in the context of complete reviews, this research presents a novel task, Review-Level Opinion Aspect Sentiment Target (ROAST). ROAST seeks to close the gap between sentence-level and text-level ABSA by identifying every ABSA constituent at the review level. We extend the available datasets to enable ROAST, addressing the drawbacks noted in previous research by incorporating low-resource languages, numerous languages, and a variety of topics. Through this effort, ABSA research will be able to cover more ground and get a deeper comprehension of the task and its practical application in a variety of languages and domains (<a class="link-external link-https" href="https://github.com/RiTUAL-UH/ROAST-ABSA" rel="external noopener nofollow">this https URL</a>).

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is that in the field of sentiment analysis, existing methods mainly focus on sentence - level analysis and lack a comprehensive evaluation of the entire review text. Specifically, the paper points out: 1. **Limitations of existing methods**: - **Insufficiency of sentence - level analysis**: Most current sentiment analysis methods are based on individual sentences, which causes them to be unable to capture the complex context - dependent relationships in the entire review, especially when dealing with implicit targets and opinions. - **Insufficient support for low - resource languages**: Existing datasets are mainly concentrated on high - resource languages (such as English) and lack support for low - resource languages, limiting the application of these methods in multilingual environments. - **Domain - specific datasets**: Most existing datasets are concentrated on specific domains (such as restaurants and electronic products), lacking diversity and a wide range of application scenarios. 2. **New tasks proposed**: - **ROAST task**: To make up for the above - mentioned deficiencies, the paper introduces a new task - Review - Level Opinion Aspect Sentiment Target (ROAST). This task aims to identify and extract all sentiment analysis elements (aspects, opinions, targets, and sentiment polarities) in the entire review, thereby providing a more comprehensive understanding of the review. - **Multilingual support**: The ROAST task expands the coverage of the dataset to include multiple languages (including low - resource languages) and multiple domains (such as Amazon food reviews, Coursera course reviews, hotel reviews, mobile phone reviews, and movie reviews). 3. **Goals and contributions**: - **Comprehensive evaluation**: Through the ROAST task, researchers can more comprehensively evaluate the performance of sentiment analysis methods in complete reviews, rather than being limited to individual sentences. - **Multilingual and multi - domain**: The dataset of the ROAST task covers multiple languages and multiple domains, which helps to promote the development of sentiment analysis research in more application scenarios. - **Identification of implicit targets and opinions**: The ROAST task pays special attention to the identification of implicit targets and opinions, using the context of the entire review to improve the accuracy of these elements. In summary, the main goal of this paper is to solve the limitations of existing sentiment analysis methods in sentence - level analysis by introducing the ROAST task, and to provide a more comprehensive, multilingual, and multi - domain evaluation framework to promote the development and application of sentiment analysis technology.
