Abstract:We put forward a new method for proving weak uniqueness of stochastic equations with singular drifts driven by a non-Markov or infinite-dimensional noise. We apply our method to study stochastic heat equation (SHE) driven by Gaussian space-time white noise $$ \frac{\partial}{\partial t} u_t(x)=\frac12 \frac{\partial^2}{\partial x^2}u_t(x)+b(u_t(x))+\dot{W}_{t}(x), \quad t>0,\, x\in D\subset\mathbb{R}, $$ and multidimensional stochastic differential equation (SDE) driven by fractional Brownian motion with the Hurst index $H\in(0,1/2)$ $$ d X_t=b(X_t) dt +d B_t^H,\quad t>0. $$ In both cases $b$ is a generalized function in the Besov space $\mathcal{B}^\alpha_{\infty,\infty}$, $\alpha<0$. Well-known pathwise uniqueness results for these equations do not cover the entire range of the parameter $\alpha$, for which weak existence holds. What happens in the range where weak existence holds but pathwise uniqueness is unknown has been an open problem. We settle this problem and show that for SHE weak uniqueness holds for $\alpha>-3/2$, and for SDE it holds for $\alpha>1/2-1/(2H)$; thus, in both cases, it holds in the entire desired range of values of $\alpha$. This extends seminal results of Catellier and Gubinelli (2016) and Gyöngy and Pardoux (1993) to the weak well-posedness setting. To establish these results, we develop a new strategy, combining ideas from ergodic theory (generalized couplings of Hairer-Mattingly-Kulik-Scheutzow) with stochastic sewing of Lê.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problem that this paper attempts to solve is the weak uniqueness problem of stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with singular drift terms and stochastic heat equations (SHEs) driven by non - Markovian or infinite - dimensional noise. Specifically: 1. **For SDEs**: - The paper studies the weak uniqueness problem of multi - dimensional SDEs driven by fractional Brownian motion (fBM), where the drift term \( b \) is a generalized function in the Besov space \( B^\alpha_{\infty,\infty} \) and \( \alpha < 0 \). - It is known that when \( \alpha > \frac{1}{2}-\frac{1}{2H} \), the SDE has a weak solution. However, previous research has not provided an answer regarding weak uniqueness within this parameter range. This paper fills this gap and proves that the weak uniqueness of the SDE holds within this parameter range. 2. **For SHEs**: - The paper studies the weak uniqueness problem of SHEs driven by Gaussian space - time white noise, where the drift term \( b \) is also a generalized function in the Besov space \( B^\alpha_{\infty,\infty} \) and \( \alpha < 0 \). - It is known that when \( \alpha > -\frac{3}{2} \), the SHE has a weak solution. Similarly, previous research has not provided an answer regarding weak uniqueness within this parameter range. This paper proves that the weak uniqueness of the SHE holds within this parameter range. ### Main contributions - **New method**: The author proposes a new method, combining the generalized coupling technique in ergodic theory and the stochastic sewing technique, to prove the weak uniqueness of these equations. - **Extension of existing results**: The results of this paper extend the pioneering work of Catellier and Gubinelli (in 2016) and Gyöngy and Pardoux (in 1993), generalizing these results from strong well - posedness to weak well - posedness. - **Filling the gap**: Solve the problem of whether weak uniqueness holds in the parameter range where weak existence is known but path uniqueness is unknown. ### Technical details - **Generalized coupling technique**: By introducing an intermediate process \( \tilde{Y} \) such that \( \tilde{Y} \) is close to \( X \), which helps to prove weak uniqueness. - **Stochastic sewing technique**: Used to handle the integration of irregular drift terms and ensure its convergence in the appropriate space. ### Conclusion By combining the generalized coupling technique and the stochastic sewing technique, this paper successfully proves that the weak uniqueness of SDEs and SHEs holds in the parameter range where weak existence is known. This not only extends the existing theory but also provides new tools and methods for dealing with a wider range of irregular drift terms.
