Abstract:We consider the space of holomorphic maps from a compact Riemann surface to a projective space blown up at finitely many points. We show that the homology of this mapping space equals that of the space of continuous maps that intersect the exceptional divisors positively, once the degree of the maps is sufficiently positive compared to the degree of homology. The proof uses a version of Vassiliev's method of simplicial resolution. As a consequence, we obtain a homological stability result for rational curves on the degree $5$ del Pezzo surface, which is analogous to a case of the Batyrev--Manin conjectures on rational point counts.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about the homology properties of the curve space on a specific type of algebraic variety. Specifically, the author studies the homology of the space of holomorphic maps from a compact Riemann surface to a projective space with a finite number of points blown up. The main goal of the paper is to prove that the homology of these mapping spaces is equal to the homology of the continuous mapping spaces under certain conditions, especially when the degree of the mapping is large enough. This result is of great significance for understanding the space of rational curves on a specific type of algebraic curve, especially for its application on the quintic del Pezzo surface, which is related to the problem of rational point counting in the Batyrev - Manin conjecture. The main theorem proposed in the paper shows that under certain conditions, there is an isomorphism relationship between the homology group of the holomorphic mapping space and the homology group of a specific continuous mapping space. In addition, the paper also explores how these results can be applied to the homology stability of rational curves on the del Pezzo surface, and the connection between these stability results and the Batyrev - Manin conjecture. By introducing a semi - topological model and using a variant of the Vassiliev method, the author proves these homology stability results, providing a new perspective for understanding a broader range of mathematical structures.
