Abstract:A Planck scale inflationary era -- in a quantum gravity theory predicting discreteness of quantum geometry at the fundamental scale -- produces the scale invariant spectrum of inhomogeneities with very small tensor-to-scalar ratio of perturbations and a hot big bang leading to a natural dark matter genesis scenario. Here we evoke the possibility that some of the major puzzles in cosmology would have an explanation rooted in quantum gravity.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper attempts to explore whether the discreteness of quantum gravity at the Planck scale can be observed in cosmology. Specifically, the authors put forward a hypothesis that, at the fundamental scale predicted by the quantum gravity theory, the quantum discreteness of geometry may be generated during the inflationary period in the early universe (i.e., the Planck - scale inflationary period). This process can generate a scale - invariant inhomogeneity spectrum, with very small tensor - scalar ratio perturbations, and lead to the hot Big Bang, and then naturally form a scenario for the origin of dark matter. The core issue of the paper is whether some major mysteries in cosmology (such as structure formation, the origin of dark matter, etc.) can be explained by the quantum gravity theory. The authors believe that if there is discreteness of quantum geometry at the Planck scale, then this discreteness may be transferred to the macroscopic scale through the inflationary process in the early universe, thus affecting the cosmic structures we observe. In addition, the paper also explores how this hypothesis is consistent with the existing cosmological observations, especially how to explain why no signs of primordial gravitational waves have been observed in the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB). In general, this paper attempts to solve some fundamental problems in cosmology, especially those regarding the early - universe structure formation and the origin of dark matter, by introducing a new perspective in the quantum gravity theory.
