Abstract:We compute the Hausdorff dimension of the set of singular vectors in function fields and bound the Hausdorff dimension of the set of $\varepsilon$-Dirichlet improvable vectors in this setting. This is a function field analogue of the results of Cheung and Chevallier [Duke Math. J. 165 (2016), 2273--2329].

Abstract:In Diophantine approximation, the notion of singular vectors was introduced by Khintchine in the 1920's. We study the set of singular vectors on an affine subspace of $\mathbb{R}^n$. We give an upper bound of its Hausdorff dimension in terms of the Diophantine exponent of the parameter of the affine subspace.

Abstract:We prove a sharp upper bound on the Hausdorff dimension of weighted singular vectors in $\mathbb{R}^m$ using dynamics on homogeneous spaces, specifically the method of integral inequalities. Together with the lower bound proved recently by Kim and Park \cite{KimPark2024}, this determines the Hausdorff dimension of weighted singular vectors, thereby generalizing to arbitrary dimension, the work of Liao, Shi, Solan, and Tamam \cite{LSST}, who determined the Hausdorff dimension of weighted singular vectors in two dimensions. We also provide the first known bounds for the Hausdorff dimension of weighted singular vectors restricted to fractal subsets.

Abstract:Let w = (w(1), w(2)) be a pair of positive real numbers with w(1) + w(2) = 1 and w(1) >= w(2). We show that the set of w-weighted singular vectors in R-2 has Hausdorff dimension 2 - 1/1+w(1). This extends the previous work of Yitwah Cheung on the Hausdorff dimension of the usual (unweighted) singular vectors in R-2.

Abstract:A class of N-parameter Gaussian processes are introduced, which are more general than the N-parameter Wiener process. The definition of the set generated by exceptional oscillations of a class of these processes is given, and then the Hausdorff dimension of this set is defined. The Hausdorff dimensions of these processes are studied and an exact representative for them is given, which is similar to that for the two-parameter Wiener process by Zacharie (2001). Moreover, the time set considered is a hyperrect angle which is more general than a hyper-square used by Zacharie (2001). For this more general case, a Fernique-type inequality is established and then using this inequality and the Slepian lemma, a Lévy’s continuity modulus theorem is shown. Independence of increments is required for showing the representative of the Hausdorff dimension by Zacharie (2001). This property is absent for the processes introduced here, so we have to find a different way.

A $d$-dimensional vector $x=(x_1,\dots,x_d)\in\mathbb{R}^d$ is said to be $w$-singular if for every $\epsilon>0$ there exists $T_0>1$ such that for all $T>T_0$ the system of inequalities \[ \max_{1\leq i\leq d}|qx_i - p_i|^{\frac{1}{w_i}} < \frac{\epsilon}{T} \quad\text{and}\quad 0<q<T \] have an integer solution $(\mathbf{p},q)=(p_1,\dots,p_d,q)\in \mathbb{Z}^d \times \mathbb{Z}$. We prove that the Hausdorff dimension of the set of $w$-singular vectors in $\mathbb{R}^d$ is bounded below by $d-\frac{1}{1+w_1}$. Our result partially extends the previous result of Liao et al. [Hausdorff dimension of weighted singular vectors in $\mathbb{R}^2$, J. Eur. Math. Soc. 22 (2020), 833-875].

Abstract:It was proved by Shen that the graph of the classical Weierstrass function Sigma(infinity)(n =0) lambda(n) cos(2 pi b(n)x) has Hausdorff dimension 2 + log lambda/log b, for every integer b >= 2 and every l is an element of(1/b, 1) [Hausdorff dimension of the graph of the classical Weierstrass functions, Math. Z., 289 (2018), 223-266]. In this paper, we prove that the dimension formula holds for every integer b >= 3 and every lambda is an element of(1/b, 1) if we replace the function cos by sin in the definition of Weierstrass function. A class of more general functions are also discussed.

Abstract:We compute the Hausdorff dimension of the set of $\psi$-exactly approximable vectors, in the simultaneous case, in dimension strictly larger than $2$ and for approximating functions $\psi$ with order at infinity less than or equal to $-2$. Our method relies on the analogous result in dimension $1$, proved by Yann Bugeaud and Carlos Moreira, and a version of Jarník's Theorem on fibres.

Abstract:We review the motivation and fundamental properties of the Hausdorff dimension of metric spaces and illustrate this with a number of examples, some of which are expected and well-known. We also give examples where the Hausdorff dimension has some surprising properties: we construct a set $E\subset\C$ of positive planar measure and with dimension 2 such that each point in $E$ can be joined to $\infty$ by one or several curves in $\C$ such that all curves are disjoint from each other and from $E$, and so that their union has Hausdorff dimension 1. We can even arrange things so that every point in $\C$ which is not on one of these curves is in $E$. These examples have been discovered very recently; they arise quite naturally in the context of complex dynamics, more precisely in the iteration theory of simple maps such as $z\mapsto \pi\sin(z)$.

Abstract:We study the relation between critical exponents and Hausdorff dimensions of limit sets for projective Anosov representations. We prove that the Hausdorff dimension of the symmetric limit set in $\mathbf{P}(\mathbb{R}^{n}) \times \mathbf{P}({\mathbb{R}^{n}}^*)$ is bounded between two critical exponents associated respectively to a highest weight and a simple root.

Abstract:In this paper, we answer a question of Nussbaum, Priyadarshi, and Lunel [Positive operators and Hausdorff dimension of invariant sets, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 364(2) (2012) 1029-1066.]. We also show that the Hausdorff dimension and box dimension of the attractor generated by a finite set of contractive infinitesimal similitudes are the same. Further, we extend many results of dimension theory to complete metric spaces. In the last part, we fill the gaps in the proofs of some articles, which are related to the dimension theory, and hint at some possible improvements in the recent papers.

Variation of the Hausdorff dimension and degenerations of Schottky groups

Abstract:We show that the Hausdorff dimension of the limit set of a Schottky group varies continuously over the moduli space of Schottky groups defined over any complete valued field constructed by Poineau and Turchetti. To obtain this result, we first study the non-Archimedean case in a setting of Berkovich analytic spaces, where we make use of Poincaré series. We show that the latter can be extended meromorphically over the complex plane and admit a special value at zero which is a purely topological invariant.

Abstract:One of our main goals in this paper is to understand the behavior of limit sets of a diverging sequence of Schottky groups in the group of isometries of the N-dimensional hyperbolic space. This leads us to a generalization of a classical theorem of Bowen on variations of Hausdorff dimension of limit sets; and to a method of transforming a diverging sequence of Schottky groups into an almost converging sequence in the group of isometries of the infinite dimensional hyperbolic space. Our results apply in particular to an example of McMullen and generalize a previous work by Mehmeti and Dang.

Abstract:Indices of vector fields on (complex analytic) singular varieties have been considered by various authors from several different viewpoints. All these indices coincide with the classical local index of Poincaré-Hopf when the ambient variety is a smooth manifold. One has the Schwartz index, the local Euler obstruction, the GSV-index, the virtual index and the homological index (and probably other indices too). In this article we give a brief overview of all these indices and the relations amongst them. We also indicate their relations with the various generalisations to complex analytic singular varieties of the Chern classes of complex manifolds.

Exact Hausdorff dimension of some sofic self-affine fractals

Abstract:Previous work has shown that the Hausdorff dimension of sofic affine-invariant sets is expressed as a limit involving intricate matrix products. This limit has typically been regarded as incalculable. However, in several highly non-trivial cases, we demonstrate that the dimension can in fact be calculated explicitly. Specifically, the dimension is expressed as the solution to an infinite-degree equation with explicit coefficients, which also corresponds to the spectral radius of a certain linear operator. Our result provides the first non-trivial calculation of the exact Hausdorff dimension of sofic sets in $\mathbb{R}^3$. This is achieved by developing a new technique inspired by the work of Kenyon and Peres (1998).

Regularity, singularities and $h$-vector of graded algebras

Abstract:Let $R$ be a standard graded algebra over a field. We investigate how the singularities of $R$ affect its $h$-vector, which is the coefficients of the numerator of its Hilbert series. The most concrete consequences of our work asserts that if $R$ satisfies Serre's condition $(S_r)$ and have reasonable singularities (Du Bois on the punctured spectrum or $F$-pure), then $h_0,\dots, h_r\geq 0$. Furthermore the multiplicity of $R$ is at least $h_0+h_1+\dots+h_{r-1}$. We also prove that equality in many cases forces $R$ to be Cohen-Macaulay. The main technical tools are sharp bounds on regularity of certain Ext modules, which can be viewed as Kodaira-type vanishing statements for Du Bois and $F$-singularities. Many corollaries are deduced, for instance that nice singularities of small codimension must be Cohen-Macaulay. Our results build on and extend previous work by de Fernex-Ein, Eisenbud-Goto, Huneke-Smith, Murai-Terai and others.
