Abstract:It is known that degrees of basic relative invariants of homogeneous open convex cones of rank $r$ are less than or equal to $2^{r-1}$. In this article, we show that there exists a homogeneous cone of rank $r$ one of whose basic relative invariants has degree $2^{r-1}$. The main idea for this is to construct such a homogeneous cone inductively to have specific structure constants which enable us to calculate degrees of its basic relative invariants. We study homogeneous cones of rank $3$ in detail in order to see non-triviality of the existence of homogeneous cones with given structure constants.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is whether the degree of the basic relative invariants of a homogeneous open convex cone can reach the known maximum upper bound \(2r - 1\), where \(r\) is the rank of the cone. Specifically, previous research has shown that for any homogeneous open convex cone with rank \(r\), the degree \(d\) of its basic relative invariants satisfies \(d\leqslant2r - 1\). However, it is still unclear whether this upper bound is strict (that is, whether there exists a homogeneous cone such that \(d = 2r - 1\)). The main contribution of the paper is to prove, by constructing a specific example, that there exists a homogeneous open convex cone with rank \(r\) whose degree of the basic relative invariants can indeed reach \(2r - 1\). This shows that the upper bound \(2r - 1\) is strict and cannot be further improved. ### Main problem summary: - **Problem background**: It is known that the degree \(d\) of the basic relative invariants of a homogeneous open convex cone satisfies \(d\leqslant2r - 1\), where \(r\) is the rank of the cone. - **Problem to be solved**: Does there exist a homogeneous open convex cone whose degree \(d\) of the basic relative invariants is equal to \(2r - 1\)? - **Paper's answer**: By constructing a specific homogeneous cone, it is proved that such a cone does exist, so that \(d = 2r - 1\). ### Key steps in the paper: 1. **Construction method**: The author constructs a homogeneous cone with specific structural constants by induction, and these structural constants enable the calculation of the degree of the basic relative invariants. 2. **Specific example**: A detailed study of the homogeneous cone with rank 3 is carried out to show the non - triviality of this construction. 3. **Theoretical verification**: Using matrix realization and the properties of structural constants, it is verified that the constructed homogeneous cone does indeed satisfy \(d = 2r - 1\). Through these steps, the author successfully proves that \(2r - 1\) is a strict upper bound for the degree of the basic relative invariants of a homogeneous open convex cone.
