Abstract:We present a morphological analysis of the 16 μm flux-density-limited galaxy sample at 0.8 < z < 1.3 from Huang et al. (2021). At the targeted redshift, the 16 μm emission corresponds to the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon feature from intense star formation, or dust heated by active galactic nuclei (AGN). Our sample of 479 galaxies are dominated by luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs; 67%) in three CANDLES fields (Extended Groth Strip, Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey North and South fields), and are further divided into AGN-dominated, star-forming dominated, composite, and blue compact galaxies by their spectral energy distribution types. The majority of our sample (71%) have disk morphologies, with the few AGN-dominated galaxies being more bulge-dominated than the star-forming-dominated and composite galaxies. The distribution of our sample on the Gini versus M 20 plane is consistent with previous studies, where the Sérsic index n shows an increasing trend toward the smaller M 20 and higher Gini region below the dividing line for mergers. The subsample of ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) follows a steep size–mass relation that is closer to the early-type galaxies. In addition, as the 4.5 μm luminosity excess ( L 4.5 exc , proxy for AGN strength) increases, our sample appears to be more bulge dominated (i.e., higher n). Based on the specific star formation rate and compactness ( log 10 Σ 1.5 , Σ 1.5 = M * / R e 1.5 ) diagram, the majority of our LIRG-dominated galaxy sample follows a secular evolution track, and their distribution can be explained without involving any merging activities. Out of the 16 ULIRGs in our sample, six are compact with strong AGN contributions, likely evolving along the fast track from more violent activities.

Abstract:We present a detailed structural and morphological study of a large sample of spectroscopically-confirmed galaxies at z >= 6, using deep HST near-IR broad-band images and Subaru optical narrow-band images. The galaxy sample consists of 51 Lyman-alpha emitters (LAEs) at z ~ 5.7, 6.5, and 7.0, and 16 Lyman-break galaxies (LBGs) at 5.9 = 6 in previous studies. In addition, more luminous galaxies tend to have larger sizes, exhibiting a weak size-luminosity relation r_{hl,in} \propto L^{0.14} at M_1500 = 6 galaxies with nonparametric methods, including the CAS system and the Gini and M_20 parameters, and demonstrate their validity through simulations. We search for extended Lyman-alpha emission halos around LAEs at z ~ 5.7 and 6.5, by stacking a number of narrow-band images. We do not find evidence of extended halos predicted by cosmological simulations. Such Lyman-alpha halos, if they exist, could be weaker than predicted. Finally, we investigate any positional misalignment between UV continuum and Lyman-alpha emission in LAEs. While the two positions are generally consistent, several merging galaxies show significant positional differences. This is likely caused by a disturbed ISM distribution due to merging activity.
A Large Massive Quiescent Galaxy Sample at Z ∼ 1.2

Abstract:In this paper we present a simple color–magnitude selection and obtain a large sample of 33,893 massive quiescent galaxies at intermediate redshifts (1 < z < 1.5). We choose the longest wavelength available in the Hyper-Supreme-Cam (HSC) deep survey, the Y band and i − Y color, to select the 4000 Å Balmer jump in passive galaxies to the highest redshift possible within the survey. With the rich multiwavelength data in the HSC deep fields, we then confirm that the selected galaxies are in the targeted redshift range of 1 < z < 1.5, lie in the passive region of the UVJ diagram, and have high stellar masses at log(M*/M⊙) > 10.5, with a median of log(M*/M⊙) = 11.0. A small fraction of our galaxies is also covered by the HST CANDELS. Morphological analysis in the observed H band shows that the majority of this subsample are early-type galaxies. As massive early-type galaxies trace the high-density regions in the large-scale structure in the universe, our study provides a quick and simple way to obtain a statistically significant sample of massive galaxies in a relatively narrow redshift range. Our sample is 7–20× larger at the massive end (log(M*/M⊙) > 10.5) than any existing samples obtained in previous surveys. This is a pioneer study, and the technique introduced here can be applied to a future wide-field survey to study large-scale structure and to identify high-density regions and clusters.

Abstract:We present a detailed structural and morphological study of a large sample of spectroscopically confirmed galaxies at z >= 6 using deep Hubble Space Telescope (HST) near-IR broad-band images and Subaru Telescope optical narrow-band images. The galaxy sample consists of 51 Ly alpha emitters (LAEs) at z similar or equal to 5.7, 6.5, and 7.0, and 16 Lyman break galaxies (LBGs) at 5.9 <= z <= 6.5. These galaxies exhibit a wide range of rest-frame UV continuum morphology in the HST images, from compact features to multiple component systems. The fraction of merging/interacting galaxies reaches 40%-50% at the brightest end of M-1500 <= -20.5 mag. The intrinsic half-light radii r(hl,in), after correcting for point-spread function (PSF) broadening, are roughly between r(hl,in) similar or equal to 0.'' 05 (0.3 kpc) and 0.'' 3 (1.7 kpc) at M-1500 <= -19.5 mag. The median r(hl,in) value is 0.'' 16 (similar to 0.9 kpc). This is consistent with the sizes of bright LAEs and LBGs at z >= 6 found in previous studies. In addition, more luminous galaxies tend to be larger and exhibit a weak size-luminosity relation, r(hl,in) proportional to L-0.14 at M-1500 <= -19.5 mag. The slope of 0.14 is significantly flatter than those in fainter LBG samples. We discuss the morphology of z >= 6 galaxies with nonparametric methods, including the concentration, asymmetry, and smoothness system and the Gini and M-20 parameters, and demonstrate their validity through simulations. We search for extended Ly alpha emission halos around LAEs at z similar or equal to 5.7 and 6.5 by stacking a number of narrow-band images. We do not find evidence of extended Ly alpha halos predicted by cosmological simulations. Such halos, if they exist, could be weaker than predicted. Finally, we investigate positional misalignment between the UV continuum and Ly alpha emissions in LAEs. Abstract:ABSTRACT We present a morphological analysis of 29 spectroscopically confirmed members of XLSSC 122, a massive galaxy cluster at $z=1.98$. We perform photometry using statmorph on images of the cluster members from the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Wide Field Camera (WFC3) in the F140W band. We visually assess the images and compute non-parametric morphological measures, namely the concentration C, asymmetry A, Gini, and $M_{20}$ values and use them to classify cluster members as either being bulge-dominated, disc-dominated or presenting possible merger features. The morphological properties of the XLSSC 122 members show clear evidence of bimodality. The bulge-dominated galaxies are redder, older, and are found in the denser regions of the cluster, while the galaxies showing disturbed features are bluer, younger and are found towards the outskirts of the cluster. XLSSC 122 is also found to be deficient in blue and disturbed galaxies compared to field galaxy populations from the Cosmic Assembly Near-IR Extragalactic Legacy Survey (CANDELS)/3D-HST surveys. An analysis of merger events occurring in numerical simulations suggest that galaxy interactions generating a population of morphologically disturbed galaxies in XLSSC 122 may have occurred over the interval $2\lt z\lt 3$, that is, prior to their infall into the virial core of the cluster.

Abstract:We have studied the morphologies of infrared- luminous galaxies at 0.3 <= z <= 1.4 in the HST Ultra Deep Field ( UDF) by calculating concentration and asymmetry indices and comparing the results with similar calculations for: ( 1) galaxies at similar redshift that are less infrared- active, and ( 2) local luminous infrared galaxies [ LIRGs; L-IR( 8-1000 mu m) > 10(11) L-circle dot]. We find that the high-redshift samples are dominated by galaxies with concentrations similar to local late-type disk galaxies; however, they are significantly more asymmetric than most local galaxies but are similar in both regards to local LIRGs. On average, the high-redshift infrared- active galaxies are slightly more asymmetric than the less active ones, although they do include a significantly higher portion of highly asymmetric ( merging?) systems and a lower portion of more concentrated, symmetric ones. The morphological similarity of infrared- active and typical infrared- inactive galaxies at high redshift suggests that they may be from the same parent population, but are in different stages of an episodic star formation process. The similarity between high redshift and local LIRGs suggests that a certain level of asymmetry is generally associated with LIRG-level activity.

Abstract:Starting from a sample of 24 m sources in the Extended Groth Strip, we use 3.6-8 mu m color criteria to select ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) at z similar to 2. Spectroscopy from 20-38 mu m of 14 objects verifies their nature and gives their redshifts. Multi-wavelength data for these objects imply stellar masses > 1011 M and star formation rates > 410 M circle dot yr(-1). Four objects of this sample observed at 1.6 mu m (rest-frame visible) with Hubble Space Telescope/WFC3 show diverse morphologies, suggesting that multiple formation processes create ULIRGs. Of the 14 objects, 4 show signs of active galactic nuclei, but the luminosity appears to be dominated by star formation in all cases.

Abstract:We present the spectrophotometric properties of a sample of 141 emission-line galaxies at redshifts in the range $0.2<z<1.0$ with a peak around $z\in[0.2,0.4]$. The analysis is based on medium resolution ($R\_{\mathrm{s}}=500-600$), optical spectra obtained at VLT and Keck. The targets are mostly {} "Canada-France Redshift Survey" emission-line galaxies, with the addition of field galaxies randomly selected behind lensing clusters. We complement this sample with galaxy spectra from the {} "Gemini Deep Deep Survey" public data release. We have computed absolute magnitudes of the galaxies and measured the line fluxes and equivalent widths of the main emission/absorption lines. The last two have been measured after careful subtraction of the fitted stellar continuum using the \texttt{platefit} software originally developed for the SDSS and adapted to our data. We present a careful comparison of this software with the results of manual measurements. The pipeline has also been tested on lower resolution spectra, typical of the {} "VIMOS/VLT Deep Survey" ($R\_{\mathrm{s}}=250$), by resampling our medium resolution spectra. We show that we can successfully deblend the most important strong emission lines. These data are primarily used to perform a spectral classification of the galaxies in order to distinguish star-forming galaxies from AGNs. Among the initial sample of 141 emission-line galaxies, we find 7 Seyfert 2 (narrow-line AGN), 115 star-forming galaxies and 16 {} "candidate" star-forming galaxies. Scientific analysis of these data, in terms of chemical abundances, stellar populations, etc, will be presented in subsequent papers of this serie.

Extremely Compact Massive Galaxies at 1.7<z<3

Abstract:We measure and analyse the sizes of 82 massive (M >= 10^11 M_Sun) galaxies at 1.7<z<3 utilizing deep HST NICMOS data taken in the GOODS North and South fields. Our sample provides the first statistical study of massive galaxy sizes at z>2. We split our sample into disk-like (Sersic index n<=2) and spheroid-like (Sersic index n>2) galaxies, and find that at a given stellar mass, disk-like galaxies at z~2.3 are a factor of 2.6+/-0.3 smaller than present day equal mass systems, and spheroid-like galaxies at the same redshift are 4.3+/-0.7 times smaller than comparatively massive elliptical galaxies today. We furthermore show that the stellar mass densities of very massive galaxies at z~2.5 are similar to present-day globular clusters with values ~2x10^10 M_Sun kpc^-3

A Nonparametric Morphological Analysis of H$α$ Emission in Bright Dwarfs Using the Merian Survey

Abstract:Using medium-band imaging from the newly released Merian Survey, we conduct a nonparametric morphological analysis of H$\alpha$ emission maps and stellar continua for a sample of galaxies with $8\lesssim\log (M_\star/M_\odot) < 10.3$ at $0.064<z<0.1$. We present a novel method for estimating the stellar continuum emission through the Merian Survey's N708 medium-band filter, which we use to measure H$\alpha$ emission and produce H$\alpha$ maps for our sample of galaxies with seven-band Merian photometry and available spectroscopy. We measure nonparametric morphological statistics for the H$\alpha$ and stellar continuum images, explore how the morphology of the H$\alpha$ differs from the continuum, and investigate how the parameters evolve with the galaxies' physical properties. In agreement with previous results for more massive galaxies, we find that the asymmetry of the stellar continuum increases with specific star formation rate (SSFR) and we extend the trend to lower masses, also showing that it holds for the asymmetry of the H$\alpha$ emission. We find that the lowest-mass galaxies with the highest SSFR have H$\alpha$ emission that is consistently heterogeneous and compact, while the less active galaxies in this mass range have H$\alpha$ emission that appears diffuse. At higher masses, our data do not span a sufficient range in SSFR to evaluate whether similar trends apply. We conclude that high SSFRs in low-mass galaxies likely result from dynamical instabilities that compress a galaxy's molecular gas to a dense region near the center.

Abstract:The well-known cluster of galaxies ZwCl0024+1652 at z $\sim$ 0.4, lacks an in-depth morphological classification of its central region. While previous studies provide a visual classification of a patched area, we used the public code called galaxy Support Vector Machine (galSVM) and HST/ACS data as well as WFP2 master catalogue to automatically classify all cluster members up to 1 Mpc. galSVM analyses galaxy morphologies through Support Vector Machine (SVM). From the 231 cluster galaxies, we classified 97 as early-types (ET) and 83 as late-types (LT). The remaining 51 stayed unclassified (or undecided, UD). By cross-matching our results with the existing visual classification, we found an agreement of 81%. In addition to previous Zwcl0024 morphological classifications, 121 of our galaxies were classified for the first time in this work. In addition, we tested the location of classified galaxies on the standard morphological diagrams, colour-colour and colour-magnitude diagrams. Out of all cluster members, $\sim$20% are emission line galaxies (ELG), taking into account previous GLACE results. We have verified that the ET fraction is slightly higher near the cluster core and decreases with the clustercentric distance, while the opposite trend has been observed for LT galaxies. We found higher fraction of ET (54%) than LT (46%) throughout the analysed central region, as expected. In addition, we analysed the correlation between the five morphological parameters (Abraham concentration, Bershady-Concelice concentration, Asymmetry, Gini and M20 moment of light) and clustercentric distance, without finding a clear trend. Finally, as a result of our work, the morphological catalogue of 231 galaxies containing all the measured parameters and the final classification is available in the electronic form of this paper.

Abstract:We present a study of a sample of 45 spectroscopically confirmed, UV luminous galaxies at z ∼ 6. They were selected as bright Lyman-break galaxies (LBGs) using deep multiband optical images in more than 2 deg 2 of the sky, and subsequently identified via their strong Lyα emission. The majority of these LBGs span an absolute UV magnitude range from −22.0 to −20.5 mag with Lyα equivalent width (EW) between ∼10 and ∼200 Å, representing the most luminous galaxies at z ∼ 6 in terms of both UV continuum emission and Lyα line emission. We model the spectral energy distributions of 10 LBGs that have deep infrared observations from Hubble Space Telescope, JWST, and/or Spitzer, and find that they have a wide range of stellar masses and ages. They also have high star formation rates ranging from a few tens to a few hundreds of solar mass per year. Five of the LBGs have JWST or HST images, and four of them show compact morphology in these images, including one that is roughly consistent with a point source, suggesting that UV luminous galaxies at this redshift are generally compact. The fraction of our photometrically selected LBGs with strong Lyα emission (EW > 25 Å) is about 0.2, which is consistent with previous results and supports a moderate evolution of the intergalactic medium opacity at the end of cosmic reionization. Using deep X-ray images, we do not find evidence of strong active galactic nucleus (AGN) activity in these galaxies, but our constraint is loose, and we are not able to rule out the possibility of any weak AGN activity.

Passive and star-forming galaxies at $1.4 \leq z \leq2.5$ in the Aegis field

Abstract:Using a simple two-color selection based on $g$-, $z$-, and $K$-band photometry, we pick out 1609 star-forming galaxies (sgzKs) and 422 passively evolving galaxies (pgzKs) at z\sim2$ from a $K$-band-selected sample ($K_{\rm AB} < 22.0$) in an area of $\sim 0.44$ deg$^{2}$ of the All-wavelength Extended Groth Strip International Survey. The number counts of pgzKs\ in our sample turn over at $K_{\rm AB} \sim 21.0$, and both the number of faint and bright objects (including sgzKs\ and pgzKs) exceed the predictions of a recent semi-analytic model of galaxy formation, a more successful model is need to explain this diversity. We also find that the star formation rate (SFR) and specific SFR (sSFR) of sgzKs\ increases with redshift at all masses, implying that star-forming galaxies were much more active on average in the past. Moreover, the sSFR of massive galaxies is lower at all redshifts, suggesting that star formation contributes more to the mass growth of low-mass galaxies than to high-mass galaxies. From {\it Hubble Space Telescope} Wide Field Camera 3 near-infrared imaging data, we find that morphologies of $z\sim2$ galaxies not only have diffuse structures with lower $G$ and higher $M_{20}$ values, but also have single-object morphologies (higher $G$ and lower $M_{20}$), implying that there are morphological variety and different formation process for these galaxies at $z\sim2$. Finally, we also study the fraction of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) in the gzKs, 82 of 828 gzKs\ with four IRAC bands can be classified as AGNs ($\sim$ 10%). Most of these AGN candidates have $L_{\rm 0.5-10\ keV}>10^{41}\,\rm erg\,s^{-1}$.

Abstract:We present a catalog of morphological and color data for galaxies with $I < 25$ mag in the {\em Hubble Deep Field} (Williams et al. 1996). Galaxies have been inspected and (when possible) independently visually classified on the MDS and DDO systems. Measurements of central concentration and asymmetry are also included in the catalog. The fraction of interacting and merging objects is seen to be significantly higher in the {\em Hubble Deep Field} than it is among nearby galaxies. Barred spirals are essentially absent from the deep sample. The fraction of early-type galaxies in the Hubble Deep Field is similar to the fraction of early-types in the Shapley-Ames Catalog, but the fraction of galaxies resembling archetypal grand-design late-type spiral galaxies is dramatically lower in the distant HDF sample.

Abstract:We analyze the Near Infrared ($\sim0.8-1\mu$m) rest-frame morphologies of galaxies with $\log M_*/M_\odot>9$ in the redshift range $0<z<6$, compare with previous HST-based results and release the first JWST-based morphological catalog of $\sim20,000$ galaxies in the CEERS survey. Galaxies are classified into four main broad classes -- spheroid, disk+spheroid, disk, and disturbed -- based on imaging with four filters -- $F150W$, $F200W$, $F356W$, and $F444W$ -- using Convolutional Neural Networks trained on HST/WFC3 labeled images and domain-adapted to JWST/NIRCam. We find that $\sim90\%$ and $\sim75\%$ of galaxies at $z<3$ have the same early/late and regular/irregular classification, respectively, in JWST and HST imaging when considering similar wavelengths. For small (large) and faint objects, JWST-based classifications tend to systematically present less bulge-dominated systems (peculiar galaxies) than HST-based ones, but the impact on the reported evolution of morphological fractions is less than $\sim10\%$. Using JWST-based morphologies at the same rest-frame wavelength ($\sim0.8-1\mu$m), we confirm an increase in peculiar galaxies and a decrease in bulge-dominated galaxies with redshift, as reported in previous HST-based works, suggesting that the stellar mass distribution, in addition to light distribution, is more disturbed in the early universe. However, we find that undisturbed disk-like systems already dominate the high-mass end of the late-type galaxy population ($\log M_*/M_\odot>10.5$) at $z\sim5$, and bulge-dominated galaxies also exist at these early epochs, confirming a rich and evolved morphological diversity of galaxies $\sim1$ Gyr after the Big Bang. Finally, we find that the morphology-quenching relation is already in place for massive galaxies at $z>3$, with massive quiescent galaxies ($\log M_*/M_\odot>10.5$) being predominantly bulge-dominated.

Abstract:We present a study of a sample of 45 spectroscopically confirmed, UV luminous galaxies at $z\sim 6$. They were selected as bright Lyman-break galaxies (LBGs) using deep multi-band optical images in more than 2 deg$^2$ of the sky, and subsequently identified via their strong Ly$\alpha$ emission. The majority of these LBGs span an absolute UV magnitude range from $-22.0$ to $-20.5$ mag with Ly$\alpha$ equivalent width (EW) between $\sim$10 and $\sim$200 Å, representing the most luminous galaxies at $z\sim 6$ in terms of both UV continuum emission and Ly$\alpha$ line emission. We model the SEDs of 10 LBGs that have deep infrared observations from HST, JWST, and/or Spitzer, and find that they have a wide range of stellar masses and ages. They also have high star-formation rates ranging from a few tens to a few hundreds of Solar mass per year. Five of the LBGs have JWST or HST images and four of them show compact morphology in these images, including one that is roughly consistent with a point source, suggesting that UV luminous galaxies at this redshift are generally compact. The fraction of our photometrically selected LBGs with strong Ly$\alpha$ emission ($\mathrm{EW}>25$ Å) is about $0.2$, which is consistent with previous results and supports a moderate evolution of the IGM opacity at the end of cosmic reionization. Using deep X-ray images, we do not find evidence of strong AGN activity in these galaxies, but our constraint is loose and we are not able to rule out the possibility of any weak AGN activity.

Abstract:We present a study on spectral energy distributions, morphologies, and star formation for an IRAC-selected extremely red object sample in the GOODS Chandra Deep Field-South. This work was enabled by new HST/WFC3 near-IR imaging from the CANDELS survey as well as the deepest available X-ray data from Chandra 4 Ms observations. This sample consists of 133 objects with the 3.6 mu m limiting magnitude of [3.6] = 21.5 and is approximately complete for galaxies with M-* > 10(11) M-circle dot at 1.5 <= z <= 2.5. We classify this sample into two types, quiescent and star-forming galaxies (SFGs), in the observed infrared color-color ([3.6]-[24] versus K - [3.6]) diagram. The further morphological study of this sample shows a consistent result with the observed color classification. The classified quiescent galaxies are bulge dominated and SFGs in the sample have disk or irregular morphologies. Our observed infrared color classification is also consistent with the rest-frame color (U - V versus V - J) classification. We also found that quiescent and SFGs are well separated in the nonparametric morphology parameter (Gini versus M-20) diagram measuring their concentration and clumpiness: quiescent galaxies have a Gini coefficient higher than 0.58 and SFGs have a Gini coefficient lower than 0.58. We argue that the star formation quenching process must lead to or be accompanied by the increasing galaxy concentration. One prominent morphological feature of this sample is that disks are commonly seen in this massive galaxy sample at 1.5 <= z <= 2.5: 30% of quiescent galaxies and 70% of SFGs withM(*) > 10(11) M-circle dot have disks in their rest-frame optical morphologies. The prevalence of these extended, relatively undisturbed disks challenges the merging scenario as the main mode of massive galaxy formation.

Abstract:We present structural parameters and morphological properties of faint 450 μm selected submillimeter galaxies (SMGs) from the JCMT Large Program, STUDIES, in the COSMOS-CANDELS region. Their properties are compared to an 850 μm selected and a matched star-forming samples. We investigate stellar structures of 169 faint 450 μm sources (S450= 2.8–29.6 mJy; S/N> 4) at z<3 using HST near-infrared observations. Based on our spectral energy distribution fitting, half of such faint SMGs (LIR= 10 11.65±0.98 Le) lie above the star formation rate (SFR)/stellar mass plane. The size–mass relation shows that these SMGs are generally similar to less-luminous star-forming galaxies selected by NUV−r versus r−J colors. Because of the intrinsic luminosity of the sample, their rest-frame optical emission is less extended than the 850 μm sources (S850> 2 mJy) and more extended than the star-forming galaxies in the same redshift range. For the stellar mass and SFR-matched sample at z;1 and z;2, the size differences are marginal between faint SMGs and the matched galaxies. Moreover, faint SMGs have similar Sérsic indices and projected axis ratios as star-forming galaxies with the same stellar mass and SFR. Both SMGs and the matched galaxies show high fractions (∼70%) of disturbed features at z;2, and the fractions depend on the SFRs. These suggest that their star formation activity is related to galaxy merging and the stellar structures of SMGs are similar to those of star-forming galaxies. Abstract:Utilizing the multi-band photometric data of the COSMOS (Cosmic Evolution Survey)/UltraVISTA (Ultra-deep Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy) field and the high-resolution HST WFC3 (Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Camera 3) near-infrared images in the CANDELS (Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey) field, we have selected 362 galaxies with the redshifts of 1≤ z ≤3 and the stellar masses of M* ≥ 1010.5M⊙, and made the classification study on the morphologies of these massive galaxies. The results from the UVJ ((U–V) vs (V–J)) two-color diagram classification, visual classification, non-model based classification (Gini coefficient G and moment index M20), and model based classification (Sérsic index n) are in good agreement with each other. Compared with the star-forming galaxies (SFGs), the quiescent galaxies (QGs) defined by the UVJ two-color diagram exhibit the compact elliptical structures, and generally have larger n and G, but smaller M20 and galaxy's effective radius re. The evolution of galaxy size with the redshift is obvious for various QG and SFG samples defined by the different classification systems (two-color diagram classification system, model and non-model based classification systems), and this evolutionary tendency is stronger for QGs in comparison with SFGs, independent to the selection of galaxy classification methods.
