Abstract:We determine the resummed 1-loop correction to a baryonic thermal screening mass. The calculation is carried out in the framework of a dimensionally reduced effective theory, where quarks are heavy fields due to their non-zero Matsubara frequencies. The correction due to interactions is computed at O($g^2_{ }$) in the coupling constant. In order to solve a 3-body Schrödinger equation, we exploit a two-dimensional generalization of the hyperspherical harmonics method. At electroweak scale temperatures, the NLO correction represents a $\sim 4.6 \%$ increase of the free-theory value $3\pi T$ of the screening mass.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### Problems the paper attempts to solve The paper aims to calculate the next - to - leading - order (NLO) correction of the baryon screening mass in high - temperature quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Specifically, in the framework of the high - dimensional reduction effective theory, the researchers calculated the next - to - leading - order correction of the baryon screening mass at the order of \(O(g^{2})\) of the coupling constant \(g\). This calculation takes into account the situation where quarks become heavy fields due to non - zero Matsubara frequencies, and the three - body Schrödinger equation is solved by using the three - dimensional generalized hyperspherical harmonic function method. ### Background and motivation 1. **Dynamics of high - temperature QCD**: - High - temperature QCD plays an important role in the early evolution of the universe and the interpretation of heavy - ion collision experimental data. - Due to asymptotic freedom, theoretically, it is hoped that at a sufficiently high temperature, the influence of interactions can be incorporated through a weak - coupling expansion. - However, QCD effectively behaves as a three - dimensional Yang - Mills theory at high temperatures and has the property of confinement, which means that the coefficients in the weak - coupling expansion need to be solved non - perturbatively. 2. **Significance of screening mass**: - The screening mass is the reciprocal of the spatial correlation length and describes how the quark - gluon plasma reacts when a state with specific quantum numbers is introduced into the system. - For baryon observables, screening is very effective, with the leading order being \(O(\pi T)\). - The next - to - leading - order correction is \(O(g^{2}T)\). Although individual diagrams contain infrared divergences, the total correction is infrared - finite. 3. **Existing research progress**: - Previous work has determined the complete \(O(g^{2}T)\) correction of the flavor non - singlet meson screening mass. - Recent lattice calculations have achieved unprecedented accuracy in a wide range of temperatures and can be directly compared with perturbative and non - perturbative data. - However, the research accuracy in the baryon part is lower, both analytically and numerically. ### Main contributions 1. **Calculation method**: - Using the high - dimensional reduction effective theory, quarks are regarded as non - relativistic fields interacting with zero - Matsubara - mode gluons. - By solving the three - body Schrödinger equation, the next - to - leading - order correction of the baryon screening mass is calculated. 2. **Results**: - At the electro - weak scale temperature, the next - to - leading - order correction causes the screening mass to increase by approximately 4.6%. - This correction is larger than the corrections in the meson static and non - static parts because of the different forms of the static potential energy in the corresponding Schrödinger equations. ### Conclusion The paper calculates the next - to - leading - order correction of the baryon screening mass through the high - dimensional reduction effective theory. The results show that at the electro - weak scale temperature, this correction is positive and is approximately 4.6%. This provides an important quantitative tool for understanding the baryon behavior in high - temperature QCD and theoretical support for further non - perturbative lattice calculations.
