Abstract:In this paper, we prove the extreme values of $L$-functions at the central point for almost prime quadratic twists of an elliptic curve. As an application, we get the extreme values for the Tate--Shafarevich groups in the quadratic twist family of an elliptic curve under the Birth--Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture.

Abstract:Abstract Let $d\in\mathbb{N}$ and π be a fixed cuspidal automorphic representation of $\mathrm{GL}_{d}(\mathbb{A}_{\mathbb{Q}})$ with unitary central character. We determine the limiting distribution of the family of values $-\frac{L^{\prime}}{L}(1+it,\pi\otimes\chi_D)$ as D varies over fundamental discriminants. Here, t is a fixed real number and χD is the real character associated with D. We establish an upper bound on the discrepancy in the convergence of this family to its limiting distribution. As an application of this result, we obtain an upper bound on the small values of $\left|\frac{L^{\prime}}{L}(1,\pi\otimes\chi_D)\right|$ when π is self-dual.

Abstract:Let $\mathfrak{q}>2$ be a prime number, $\chi$ a primitive Dirichlet character modulo $\mathfrak{q}$ and $f$ a primitive holomorphic cusp form or a Hecke-Maass cusp form of level $\mathfrak{q}$ and trivial nebentypus. We prove the subconvex bound $$ L(1/2,f\otimes \chi)\ll \mathfrak{q}^{1/2-1/12+\varepsilon}, $$ where the implicit constant depends only on the archimedean parameter of $f$ and $\varepsilon$. The main input is a modifying trivial delta method developed in [1].

Abstract:In this article, we aim to establish a prototype result regarding lower bounds of (joint) distributions of central $L'$-values through extending a method of Radziwill and Soundararajan of proving conditional bounds for distributions of central $L$-values (via the one-level density of low-lying zeros of involving $L$-functions). To illustrate this, we give several conditional bounds towards joint distributions of central $L'$-values and orders of Tate-Shafarevich groups in rank-one families of quadratic twists. As an application, we derive a simultaneous non-vanishing result for central $L'$-values in families of quadratic twists of triples of holomorphic modular forms.

Abstract:In a previous paper we proved that if an $L$-function $F$ from the Selberg class has degree $2$, its conductor $q_F$ is a prime number and $F$ is weakly twist-regular at all primes $p\neq q_F$, then $F$ has a polynomial Euler product. In this paper we extend this result to $L$-functions of degree 2 with square-free conductor $q_F$, which are weakly twist-regular at all primes $p\nmid q_F$

Abstract:In 2008, Soundararajan showed that there exists a normalized Hecke eigenform $f$ of weight $k$ and level one such that $$ L(1/2, f ) ~\geq~ \exp\Bigg( (1 + o(1)) \sqrt{\frac{2\log k}{\log\log k} }\Bigg) $$ for sufficiently large $k \equiv 0 \pmod{4}$. In this note, we show that for any $\epsilon>0$ and for all sufficiently large $k \equiv 0 \pmod{4}$, the number of normalized Hecke eigenforms of weight $k$ and level one for which $$ L(1/2, f ) ~\geq~ \exp\left(1.41\sqrt{ \frac{ \log k }{\log\log k} }\right) $$ is $\gg_{\epsilon} k^{1-\epsilon}$. For an odd fundamental discriminant $D$, let $B_{k}(|D|)$ be the set of all cuspidal normalized Hecke eigenforms of weight $k$ and level dividing $|D|$. When the real primitive Dirichlet character $\chi_D$ satisfies $\chi_D(-1)= i^k$, we investigate the number of $f \in B_{k}(|D|)$ for which $L(1/2, f \otimes \chi_D)$ takes extremal values.

This led to a number of works by several authors in different set-ups including studying higher derivatives. However, all these works were focused around the central point of the critical strip. In this article, we extend the study to arbitrary points in the critical strip.

Abstract:We investigate the distribution of values of cubic Dirichlet $L$-functions at $s=1$. Following ideas of Granville and Soundararajan for quadratic $L$-functions, we model the distribution of $L(1,\chi)$ by the distribution of random Euler products $L(1,\mathbb{X})$ for certain family of random variables $\mathbb{X}(p)$ attached to each prime. We obtain a description of the proportion of $|L(1,\chi)|$ that are larger or that are smaller than a given bound, and yield more light into the Littlewood bounds. Unlike the quadratic case, there is an asymmetry between lower and upper bounds for the cubic case, and small values are less probable than large values.

Abstract:For a given irreducible and monic polynomial $f(x) \in \mathbb{Z}[x]$ of degree $4$, we consider the quadratic twists by square-free integers $q$ of the genus one quartic ${H\, :\, y^2=f(x)}$ \[ H_q \, :\, qy^2=f(x). \] We say that a curve $C$ is everywhere locally soluble (ELS) if it has a solution in $\mathbb{R}$ and in $\mathbb{Q}_p$ for every prime $p$ (i.e. if $C(\mathbb{R})\neq \emptyset$ and $C(\mathbb{Q}_p)\neq \emptyset$ for all primes $p$). Let $L=\{q\in \mathbb{N} :\, q \text{ is square-free and } H_q \text{ is ELS}\}$ denote the set of positive square-free integers $q$ for which $H_q$ is everywhere locally soluble. For a real number $x$ let ${L(x)= \#\{q\in L:\, q<x\}}$ be the number of elements in $L$ that are less then $x$. Furthermore, let us denote with \[ F(s)=\sum_{n \in L} \frac{1}{n^s} \] the corresponding Dirichlet's series of the set $L$. In this paper, we obtain that \[ L(x) = c_f \frac{x}{(\ln{x})^{m}}+O\left(\frac{x}{(\ln{x})^\alpha}\right) \] for some constants $c_f$, $m$ and $\alpha$ only depending on $f$ such that $m<\alpha \leq 1+m$. We also express the Dirichlet's series $F(s)$ via Dedekind's zeta functions of certain number fields.

Abstract:This is the first part of a series of papers where the behaviour of the invariants under twist by Dirichlet characters is studied for $L$-functions of degree 2. Here we show, under suitable conditions, that degree and internal shift remain unchanged under twist. The ultimate goal of the series is to prove a general version of Weil converse theorem with minimal assumptions on the shape of the functional equation of the twists.

Abstract:Let $f$ be a normalized newform of weight 2 on $\Gamma_0(N)$ whose coefficients lie in $\mathbb{Q}$ and let $\chi_M$ be a primitive quadratic Dirichlet character with conductor $M$. In this paper, under mild assumptions on $M$, we give a sharp lower bound of the 2-adic valuation of the algebraic central $L$-value $L(f, \chi_M, 1)$ and evaluate the 2-adic valuation for an infinite number of $M$.

Abstract:In 2008, Soundararajan showed that there exists a normalized Hecke eigenform f of weight k and level one such that L(1/2,f)⩾exp(1+o(1))2logkloglogk for sufficiently large k≡0(mod4) . In this note, we show that for any ε>0 and for all sufficiently large k≡0(mod4) , the number of normalized Hecke eigenforms of weight k and level one for which L(1/2,f)⩾exp1.41logkloglogk is ≫εk1−ε . For an odd fundamental discriminant D , let Bk(|D|) be the set of all cuspidal normalized Hecke eigenforms of weight k and level dividing |D| . When the real primitive Dirichlet character χD satisfies χD(−1)=ik , we investigate the number of f∈Bk(|D|) for which L(1/2,f⊗χD) takes extremal values.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish an asymptotic formula for the twisted second moments of Dirichlet $L$-functions with one and two twists when averaged over all primitive Dirichlet characters of modulus $R$, where $R$ is a monic polynomial in $\mathbb{F}_q[T]$. The main result in this paper generalizes the work of Djanković [`The reciprocity law for the twisted second moment of Dirichlet $L$-functions over rational function fields', Bull. Aust. Math. Abstract:We prove an asymptotic formula with four main terms for the fourth moment of quadratic Dirichlet $L$-functions unconditionally. Our proof is based on the work of Li , Soundararajan, and Soundararajan-Young. Our proof requires several new ingredients. These include a modified large sieve estimate for quadratic characters where we consider a fourth moment, rather than a second, as well as observing cross cancellations between diagonal and off-diagonal terms, which involves somewhat delicate combinatorial arguments.
