Abstract:Local behaviors near boundary are analyzed for solutions of the Stokes and Navier-Stoke equations in the half space with localized non-smooth boundary data. We construct solutions of Stokes equations whose velocity field is not bounded near boundary away from the support of boundary data, although velocity and gradient velocity of solutions are locally square integrable. This is an improvement compared to known results in the sense that velocity field is unbounded itself, since previously constructed solutions were bounded near boundary, although their normal derivatives are singular. We also establish singular solutions and their derivatives that do not belong to $L^q_{\rm{loc}}$ near boundary with $q> 1$. For such examples, there corresponding pressures turn out not to be locally integrable. Similar construction via a perturbation argument is available to the Navier-Stokes equations near boundary as well.
Analysis of PDEs
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the singular behavior near the boundary of the solutions of the Stokes equations and Navier - Stokes equations with locally non - smooth boundary data in a half - space. Specifically, the authors construct solutions of the Stokes equations, and the velocity fields of these solutions are unbounded far from the support region of the boundary data, although the velocities and their gradients are locally square - integrable. This is an improvement compared to the known results, because in previous constructions, although the normal derivatives of the solutions were singular, the velocities themselves were bounded. In addition, the author also establishes singular solutions and their derivatives that do not belong to $L^q_{\text{loc}}$ ($q > 1$), and for such examples, the corresponding pressure terms are also not locally integrable. For the Navier - Stokes equations, a similar construction is obtained through a perturbation argument. ### Main research objectives 1. **Construct singular solutions**: Construct weak solutions of the Stokes equations and Navier - Stokes equations such that the velocity fields are singular near the boundary of the half - space. 2. **Analyze the properties of solutions**: Study the local regularity of these solutions near the boundary, especially when the boundary conditions are non - slip boundary conditions. 3. **Explore the integral properties of solutions**: Analyze the integral properties of the solutions and their derivatives in different spaces, especially when the solutions are not Hölder continuous functions, the integral properties of the pressure terms. ### Main results - Weak solutions of the Stokes equations and Navier - Stokes equations are constructed such that the velocity fields are singular near the boundary. - The local regularity of these solutions near the boundary is proved, especially in some cases, the velocity fields do not belong to any Hölder continuous function class. - The integral properties of these solutions and their derivatives in different spaces are analyzed, especially when the solutions are not Hölder continuous functions, the integral properties of the pressure terms. ### Mathematical tools and methods - **Poisson kernel and Green function**: Use the Poisson kernel and Green function to represent the form of solutions. - **A priori estimates**: Analyze the local regularity of solutions through a priori estimates. - **Perturbation argument**: Deal with the singular solutions of the Navier - Stokes equations through a perturbation argument. ### Formula examples - **Stokes equations**: \[ \begin{cases} u_t-\Delta u+\nabla\pi = 0, \\ \text{div } u = 0, \end{cases} \] in \( Q_2^+ = B_2^+\times(0, 4) \), where \( B_2^+=\{x=(x', x_n)\in\mathbb{R}^{n - 1}\times\mathbb{R}:|x|<2, x_n>0\} \). - **Boundary conditions**: \[ u = 0\quad\text{on }\Sigma=(B_2\cap\{x_n = 0\})\times(0, 4). \] ### Conclusion By constructing and analyzing these singular solutions, the authors show the complex behavior near the boundary of the solutions of the Stokes equations and Navier - Stokes equations with locally non - smooth boundary data in a half - space. These results not only deepen the understanding of the solutions of these equations but also provide a new perspective for further research.
