Abstract: The book embedding of a graph $G$ is to place the vertices of $G$ on the spine and draw the edges to the pages so that the edges in the same page do not cross with each other. A book embedding is matching if the vertices in the same page have maximum degree at most 1. The matching book thickness is the minimum number of pages in which a graph can be matching book embedded. A graph $G$ is dispersable if and only if $mbt(G)=\Delta(G)$. In this paper, we prove that bipartite cubic planar graphs are dispersable.

Abstract:In this paper, based on the Diophantine equation technique, we first prove the circulant graph C(Zn,{k1,k2}) is isomorphic to the disjoint union of gcd (n,k1,k2) identical graphs, which belong to one of the three types of graphs: (i) C(Zn{1,k}) ; (ii) the Cartesian graph bundle Cs□φCt over cycles; (iii) the Cartesian product of the complete graph K2 and a cycle. Naturally, to study the dispersability of C(Zn,{k1,k2}) can be reduced to study that of the above three types. Next, we solve the dispersability of the circulant graph C(Zn,{1,k}) . Specifically, C(Zn,{1,k}) is dispersable if it is a bipartite; otherwise, it is nearly dispersable. In addition, we prove that bipartite circulant graphs are dispersable.

Abstract:Let G={G1,...,G2n} be a bipartite graph collection on the common vertex bipartition (X,Y) with |X|=|Y|=n . We say that G is bipancyclic if there exists a partial G -transversal isomorphic to an l -cycle for each even integer l∈[4,2n] , while G is vertex-bipancyclic if any vertex v∈X∪Y is contained in a partial G -transversal isomorphic to an l -cycle for each even integer l∈[4,2n] . Bradshaw in [Transversals and bipancyclicity in bipartite graph families, Electron. J. Comb., 2021] showed that for each i∈[2n] , if dGi(x)>n2 for each x∈X and dGi(y)≥n2 for each y∈Y , then G is bipancyclic, which generalizes a classical result of Schmeichel and Mitchem in [Bipartite graphs with cycles of all even lengths, J. Graph Theory, 1982] on the bipancyclicity of bipartite graphs to the setting of graph transversals. Motivated by their work, we study vertex-bipancyclicity in bipartite graph collections and prove that if δ(Gi)≥n+12 for any i∈[2n] , then G is vertex-bipancyclic unless n=3 and G consists of 6 identical copies of a 6-cycle. Moreover, we also show the Hamiltonian connectivity of G .

Abstract:A graph $G$ $=$ $(V,E)$ is vertex-pancyclic if for every vertex $u$ and any integer $l$ ranging from $3$ to $|V|$, $G$ contains a cycle $C$ of length $l$ such that $u$ is on $C$. A bipartite graph $G$ $=$ $(V,E)$ is vertex-bipancyclic if for every vertex $u$ and any even integer $l$ ranging from $4$ to $|V|$, $G$ contains a cycle $C$ of length $l$ such that $u$ is on $C$. The simplified shuffle-cube and the balanced shuffle-cube, which are two variants of the shuffle-cube and are superior to shuffle-cube in terms of vertex-transitivity. In this paper, we show that the $n$-dimensional simplified shuffle-cube is vertex-pancyclic for $n\geqslant 6$, and the $n$-dimensional balanced shuffle-cube is vertex-bipancyclic for $n\geqslant 2$.

Odd cycle transversals and independent sets in fullerene graphs

Abstract:A fullerene graph is a cubic bridgeless plane graph with all faces of size 5 and 6. We show that that every fullerene graph on n vertices can be made bipartite by deleting at most sqrt{12n/5} edges, and has an independent set with at least n/2-sqrt{3n/5} vertices. Both bounds are sharp, and we characterise the extremal graphs. This proves conjectures of Doslic and Vukicevic, and of Daugherty. We deduce two further conjectures on the independence number of fullerene graphs, as well as a new upper bound on the smallest eigenvalue of a fullerene graph.

Abstract:The canonical double cover $B(X)$ of a graph $X$ is the direct product of $X$ and $K_2$. If $Aut(B(X)) \cong Aut(X) \times \mathbb{Z}_2$ then $X$ is called stable; otherwise $X$ is called unstable. An unstable graph is nontrivially unstable if it is connected, non-bipartite and distinct vertices have different neighborhoods. Circulant is a Cayley graph on a cyclic group. Qin et al. conjectured in [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 136 (2019), 154-169] that there are no nontrivialy unstable circulants of odd order. In this paper we prove this conjecture.

Abstract:In 1981, Bermond and Thomassen conjectured that for any positive integer k , every digraph with minimum out-degree at least 2k−1 admits k vertex-disjoint directed cycles. In this short paper, we verify the Bermond-Thomassen conjecture for triangle-free multipartite tournaments and 3-partite tournaments. Furthermore, we characterize 3-partite tournaments with minimum out-degree at least 2k−1 ( k≥2 ) such that in each set of k vertex-disjoint directed cycles, every cycle has the same length.

Higher Order Bipartiteness vs Bi-Partitioning in Simplicial Complexes

Abstract:Bipartite graphs are a fundamental concept in graph theory and have significant applications in data analysis and modeling complex processes. A graph is bipartite if its vertices can be divided into two sets, with no connections within each set. Detecting bipartite graphs can be done by examining their cycles; a graph is bipartite if and only if there are no odd cycles present. This characteristic is essential in various problem domains, such as clustering and matching. Bipartite graphs can be identified through the spectrum of the Laplacian, a graph is bipartite if and only if the maximum eigenvalue of the normalized Laplacian equals two. However, graphs are limited to representing pairwise interactions, to model higher-order connections in complex systems, hypergraphs and simplicial complexes are required. This raises the question of what is bipartiteness for simplicial complexes of higher dimensions - whether obtaining the maximum eigenvalue of the normalized Laplacian is equivalent to partitioning the simplexes into two, similar to the graph case. We address this problem by fully characterizing those complexes for which the maximum eigenvalue of the Laplacian is obtained, known as disorientable simplicial complexes, based on the parity of the length of cycles in their down dual graph. We show that a N-dimensional simplicial complex is disorientable if and only if its down dual graph has no simple odd cycle of distinct edges and no twisted even cycle of distinct edges. We note that having no odd cycle is the key to answering the bi-partitioning problem of the simplexes.

Circulant graphs as an example of discrete quantum unique ergodicity

Abstract:A discrete analog of quantum unique ergodicity was proved for Cayley graphs of quasirandom groups by Magee, Thomas and Zhao. They show that for large graphs there exist real orthonormal basis of eigenfunctions of the adjacency matrix such that quantum probability measures of the eigenfunctions put approximately the correct proportion of their mass on subsets of the vertices that are not too small. We investigate this property for Cayley graphs of cyclic groups (circulant graphs). We observe that there exist sequences of orthonormal eigenfunction bases which are perfectly equidistributed. However, for sequences of 4-regular circulant graphs of prime order, we show that there are no sequences of real orthonormal bases where all sequences of eigenfunctions equidistribute. To obtain this result, we also prove that, for large 4-regular circulant graphs of prime order, the maximum multiplicity of the eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix is two.

Since then, problems related to pancyclicity have attracted a lot of attentions and interests of researchers. A connected graph G is two-disjoint-cycle-cover [t1,t2] -pancyclic or briefly 2-DCC [t1,t2] -pancyclic if for any positive integer t with t∈[t1,t2] , there are two vertex-disjoint cycles C1 and C2 in G satisfying |V(C1)|=t and |V(C2)|=|V(G)|−t . Abstract:We show that for every two cycles $C,D$, there exists $c>0$ such that if $G$ is both $C$-free and $\overline{D}$-free then $G$ has a clique or stable set of size at least $|G|^c$. ("$H$-free" means with no induced subgraph isomorphic to $H$, and $\overline{D}$ denotes the complement graph of $D$.) Since the five-vertex cycle $C_5$ is isomorphic to its complement, this extends the earlier result that $C_5$ satisfies the Erdős-Hajnal conjecture. It also unifies and strengthens several other results. The results for cycles are special cases of results for subdivisions, as follows. Let $H,J$ be obtained from smaller graphs by subdividing every edge exactly twice. We will prove that there exists $c>0$ such that if $G$ is both $H$-free and $\overline{J}$-free then $G$ has a clique or stable set of size at least $|G|^c$. And the same holds if $H$ and/or $J$ is obtained from a graph bychoosing a forest $F$ and subdividing every edge not in $F$ at least five times. Our proof uses the framework of iterative sparsification developed in other papers of this series. Along the way, we will also give a short and simple proof of a celebrated result of Fox and Sudakov, that says that for all $H$, every $H$-free graph contains either a large stable set or a large complete bipartite subgraph.

Abstract:For fixed $k\ge 2$, determining the order of magnitude of the number of edges in an $n$-vertex bipartite graph not containing $C_{2k}$, the cycle of length $2k$, is a long-standing open problem. We consider an extension of this problem to triple systems. In particular, we prove that the maximum number of triples in an $n$-vertex triple system which does not contain a $C_6$ in the link of any vertex, has order of magnitude $n^{7/3}$. Additionally, we construct new families of dense $C_6$-free bipartite graphs with $n$ vertices and $n^{4/3}$ edges in order of magnitude.

Abstract:The \emph{matching book thickness} $mbt(G)$ of $G$ is the minimum integer $m$ such that an $m$-page matching book embedding exists. A graph $G$ is called \emph{dispersable} if $mbt(G)=\Delta(G)$, \emph{nearly dispersable} if $mbt(G)=\Delta(G)+1$. Abstract:Embedding cycles into a network topology is crucial for a network simulation. In particular, embedding Hamiltonian cycles is a major requirement for designing good interconnection networks. A graph G is called r-spanning cyclable if, for any r distinct vertices v1,v2,...,vr of G, there exist r cycles C1,C2,...,Cr in G such that vi is on Ci for every i, and every vertex of G is on exactly one cycle Ci. If r=1, this is the classical Hamiltonian problem. In this paper, we focus on the problem of embedding spanning disjoint cycles in bipartite k-ary n-cubes. Let k≥4 be even and n≥2. It is shown that the n-dimensional bipartite k-ary n-cube Qnk is m-spanning cyclable with m≤2n−1. Considering the degree of Qnk, the result is optimal.
