Abstract:We prove that the Feynman category encoding Schwarz's variant of modular operads is Koszul. Our proof uses a generalization of the theory of distributive laws to the groupoid colored setting.

Abstract:Our aim is to introduce and advocate non-$\Sigma$ (non-symmetric) modular operads. While ordinary modular operads were inspired by the structure of the moduli space of stable complex curves, non-$\Sigma$ modular operads model surfaces with open strings outputs. An immediate application of our theory is a short proof that the modular envelope of the associative operad is the linearization of the terminal operad in the category of non-$\Sigma$ modular operads. This gives a succinct description of this object that plays an important role in open string field theory. We also sketch further perspectives of the presented approach.

Abstract:We describe a category of undirected graphs which comes equipped with a faithful functor into the category of (colored) modular operads. The associated singular functor from modular operads to presheaves is fully faithful, and its essential image can be classified by a Segal condition. This theorem can be used to recover a related statement, due to André Joyal and Joachim Kock, concerning a larger category of undirected graphs whose functor to modular operads is not just faithful but also full.

Abstract:We define a new monoidal category on collections (shuffle composition). Monoids in this category (shuffle operads) turn out to bring a new insight in the theory of symmetric operads. For this category, we develop the machinery of Gröbner bases for operads, and present operadic versions of Bergman's Diamond Lemma and Buchberger's algorithm. This machinery can be applied to study symmetric operads. In particular, we obtain an effective algorithmic version of Hoffbeck's PBW criterion of Koszulness for (symmetric) quadratic operads.

Admissible Skein Modules and Ansular Functors: A Comparison

Abstract:Given a finite ribbon category, which is a particular case of a cyclic algebra over the operad of genus zero surfaces, there are two possibilities for an extension defined on all three-dimensional handlebodies: On the one hand, one can use the admissible skein module construction of Costantino-Geer-Patureau-Mirand. On other hand, by a construction of the authors using Costello's modular envelope, one can build a so-called ansular functor, a handlebody version of the notion of a modular functor. Unlike the admissible skein modules with their construction through the Reshetikhin-Turaev graphical calculus, the ansular functor is defined purely through a universal property. In this note, we prove the widely held expectation that these constructions are related by giving an isomorphism between them, with the somewhat surprising subtlety that we need to include consistently on one of the sides an additional boundary component labeled by the distinguished invertible object of Etingof-Nikshych-Ostrik. In other words, the constructions agree on handlebodies up to a `background charge' that becomes trivial in the unimodular case. Our comparison result includes the handlebody group action as well as the skein algebra action.

Koszul Feynman Categories

Abstract:A cubical Feynman category, introduced by the authors in previous work, is a category whose functors to a base category $\mathcal{C}$ behave like operads in $\mathcal{C}$. In this note we show that every cubical Feynman category is Koszul. The upshot is an explicit, minimal cofibrant resolution of any cubical Feynman category, which can be used to model $\infty$ versions of generalizations of operads for both graph based and non-graph based examples.

Abstract:We show that various combinatorial invariants of matroids such as Chow rings and Orlik--Solomon algebras may be assembled into "operad-like" structures. Specifically, one obtains several operads over a certain Feynman category which we introduce and study in detail. In addition, we establish a Koszul-type duality between Chow rings and Orlik--Solomon algebras, vastly generalizing a celebrated result of Getzler. This provides a new interpretation of combinatorial Leray models of Orlik--Solomon algebras.

Abstract:We construct a (coloured) operad RL in the category of sets that may be thought of as a combinatorial model for the Swiss Cheese operad. By adapting Batanin-Berger's condensation process we obtain a topological (resp. chain) operad weakly equivalent to the topological (resp. chain) Swiss Cheese operad. As an application, we exhibit models for relative loop spaces acted on by Swiss Cheese type operads (in dimension 2).

Abstract:It is shown how double categories provide a direct abstract approach to coloured operads; namely, product-preserving normal lax functors from (Pb C)^op (the opposite of the double category of pullback squares in C) to Cat (the double category of functors and profunctors) can be seen as generalized operads, the standard ones arising when C = Set_f. In this context, generalized symmetric monoidal categories are considered, in particular those arising from indexed categories with sums or products.

Abstract:We introduce a construction that associates, to each finite dimensional k-vector space V, a family of projective k-varieties that comes equipped with the structure of a operad in the category of k-schemes. When dim V = 1, this operad contains, as a suboperad, the family of moduli spaces of stably marked rational curves. For general V, our operad contains the family of Chen-Gibney-Krashen moduli spaces of stably marked trees of projective spaces as a suboperad. We realize our operad as part of a larger theory that describes how to construct operads from suitable functors. Given a category C that satisfies conditions allowing us to consider the operation of "substituting a value into an argument" within C, and given any functor F on C satisfying a variant of right-exactness, we construct a version of a set-valued operad whose inputs are given by objects in C. When C happens to be the category of nonempty finite sets, we obtain operads in the classic sense. Finally, we show that in many cases it is possible to realize these operads as disjoint unions of quiver Grassmannians.

Abstract:A super-modular category is a unitary premodular category with Muger center equivalent to the symmetric unitary category of super-vector spaces. Super-modular categories are important alternatives to modular categories as any unitary premodular category is the equivariantization of a either a modular or super-modular category. Physically, super-modular categories describe universal properties of quasiparticles in fermionic topological phases of matter. In general one does not have a representation of the modular group SL(2, Z) associated to a super-modular category, but it is possible to obtain a representation of the (index 3) theta-subgroup: Gamma(theta) < SL(2, Z). We study the image of this representation and conjecture a super-modular analogue of the Ng-Schauenburg congruence subgroup theorem for modular categories, namely that the kernel of the Gamma(theta) representation is a congruence subgroup. We prove this conjecture for any super-modular category that is a subcategory of modular category of twice its dimension, i.e., admitting a minimal modular extension. Conjecturally, every super-modular category admits (precisely 16) minimal modular extensions and our conjecture would be a consequence.

Abstract:The aim of this sequel to <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1812.02935" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1812.02935">arXiv:1812.02935</a> is to set up the cornerstones of Koszul duality and Koszulity in the context of operads over a large class of operadic categories. In particular, for these operadic categories we will study concrete examples of binary quadratic operads, describe their Koszul duals and prove that they are Koszul. This includes operads whose algebras are the most important operad- and PROP-like structures such as the classical operads, their variants such as cyclic, modular or wheeled operads, and also diverse versions of PROPs such as properads, dioperads, 1/2PROPs, and still more exotic objects such as permutads and pre-permutads.

Abstract:Using combinatorial properties of symmetric polynomials, we compute explicitly the Soergel modules for some permutations whose corresponding Schubert varieties are rationally smooth. We build from them diagram algebras whose module categories are equivalent to the subquotient categories of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ which show up in categorification of $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$-representations. We construct diagrammatically the graded cellular structure and the properly stratified structure of these algebras.

Operadic right modules via the dendroidal formalism

Abstract:In this work we study the homotopy theory of the category $\mathsf{RMod}_{\mathbf{P}}$ of right modules over a simplicial operad $\mathbf{P}$ via the formalism of forest spaces $\mathsf{fSpaces}$, as introduced by Heuts, Hinich and Moerdijk. In particular, we show that, for $\mathbf{P}$ is closed and $\Sigma$-free, there exists a Quillen equivalence between the projective model structure on $\mathsf{RMod}_{\mathbf{P}}$, and the contravariant model structure on the slice category $\mathsf{fSpaces}_{/N\mathbf{P}}$ over the dendroidal nerve of $\mathbf{P}$. As an application, we comment on how this result can be used to compute derived mapping spaces of between operadic right modules.

Abstract:We present a Markl-style definition of operads colored by a small category. In the presence of a unit these are equivalent to substitudes of Day and Street. We show that operads colored by a category are internal algebras of a certain categorical operad of functors. We describe a groupoid-colored quadratic binary operad, whose algebras are non-unital Markl operads in the context of operadic categories. As a by-product we describe the free internal operad construction.

Abstract:We exhibit a correspondence between subcategories of modules over an algebra and sub-bimodules of the dual of that algebra. We then prove that the semisimplicity of certain such categories is equivalent to the existence of a Peter-Weyl decomposition of the corresponding sub-bimodule. Finally, we use this technique to establish the semisimplicity of certain finite-dimensional representations of the quantum double of sl_2 for generic q.

Abstract:In this paper we provide a "combinatorial" description of the category of tilting perverse sheaves on the affine flag variety of a reductive algebraic group, and its free-monodromic variant, with coefficients in a field of positive characteristic. This provides a replacement for the familiar "Soergel theory" for characteristic-0 coefficients, and the second step in our project towards the construction of an equivalence of categories relating the two natural geometric realizations of the associated affine Hecke algebra in the case of positive-characteristic coefficients.

Abstract:We use the newly developed technique of inverse quantum hamiltonian reduction to investigate the representation theory of the simple affine vertex algebra $\mathsf{A}_{2}(\mathsf{u},2)$ associated to $\mathfrak{sl}_{3}$ at level $\mathsf{k} = -3+\frac{\mathsf{u}}{2}$, for $\mathsf{u}\ge3$ odd. Starting from the irreducible modules of the corresponding simple Bershadsky-Polyakov vertex operator algebras, we show that inverse reduction constructs all irreducible lower-bounded weight $\mathsf{A}_{2}(\mathsf{u},2)$-modules. This proceeds by first constructing a complete set of coherent families of fully relaxed highest-weight $\mathsf{A}_{2}(\mathsf{u},2)$-modules and then noting that the reducible members of these families degenerate to give all remaining irreducibles. Using this fully relaxed construction and the degenerations, we deduce modular S-transforms for certain natural generalised characters of these irreducibles and their spectral flows. With this modular data in hand, we verify that the (conjectural) standard Verlinde formula predicts Grothendieck fusion rules with nonnegative-integer multiplicities.

Koszul Operads Governing Props and Wheeled Props

Abstract:In this paper, we construct groupoid coloured operads governing props and wheeled props, and show they are Koszul. This is accomplished by new biased definitions for (wheeled) props, and an extension of the theory of Groebner bases for operads to apply to groupoid coloured operads. Using the Koszul machine, we define homotopy (wheeled) props, and show they are not formed by polytope based models. Finally, using homotopy transfer theory, we construct Massey products for (wheeled) props, show these products characterise the formality of these structures, and re-obtain a theorem of Mac Lane on the existence of higher homotopies of (co)commutative Hopf algebras.
