Abstract:Within the framework of the recently introduced multi-nanoparticle power-series expansion method for the polarized small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) cross section, we present analytical expressions for the polarized SANS observables arising from dilute nanoparticle assemblies with antisymmetric vortex-type spin structures. We establish connections between the magnetic correlation coefficients and the magnetic field-dependent vortex-axes distribution function, which is related to the random orientations of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy axes of the nanoparticles. Our analytical results are validated through a comparative analysis with micromagnetic simulations. This framework contributes to a comprehensive understanding of polarized magnetic neutron scattering from spherical nanoparticle systems exhibiting vortex-type spin structures.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is how to characterize the internal spin structure of nanoparticle aggregates with vortex - like spin structures through the Polarized Small - Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) technique. Specifically, the authors proposed a framework based on the Multi - Nanoparticle Power - Series Expansion (MNPSE) method for analytically expressing the polarized SANS observables observed from these nanoparticle aggregates. This framework specifically focuses on sparse nanoparticle aggregates with antisymmetric vortex - like spin textures. ### Main Problems and Goals 1. **Characterize Spin Structure**: The main purpose of the paper is to provide a method that can effectively characterize nanoparticle aggregates with complex spin structures (such as vortex - like spin structures). These spin structures are common in many magnetic materials, but traditional characterization methods are difficult to accurately describe their details. 2. **Analytical Expressions**: The authors derived analytical expressions for describing polarized SANS observables, especially for nanoparticle aggregates with vortex - like spin structures. These expressions can directly predict the spin - flip SANS cross - section \(I_{sf}(q)\) and the corresponding spin - flip pair distance distribution function \(p_{sf}(r)\). 3. **Verification and Comparison**: The correctness and effectiveness of these analytical expressions were verified by comparison with micromagnetic simulation results. This helps to establish a more comprehensive understanding, especially when interpreting experimental data. ### Key Contributions - **Analytical Model**: A linear MNPSE method was proposed, which can analytically describe the SANS signal of nanoparticle aggregates with vortex - like spin structures. - **Parameterization**: Physically meaningful parameters were introduced, such as the uniform part of the spin structure \(m_0\) and the linear vortex part \(m_1\), and the distribution function of the vortex axis \(\psi(\alpha, \beta)\). - **Combination of Theory and Experiment**: By comparing with the micromagnetic simulation results, the effectiveness of the theoretical model was verified, and it was shown how to extract key parameters from experimental data, such as the conical opening angle \(\alpha_c\) of the vortex axis distribution. ### Conclusion By proposing a framework based on the MNPSE method, the paper successfully solved the problem of how to characterize nanoparticle aggregates with vortex - like spin structures through the polarized SANS technique. This framework not only provides theoretical analytical expressions but also verifies its effectiveness through comparison with micromagnetic simulations. These results are of great significance for understanding magnetic behavior at the nanoscale.
