Abstract:This paper presents the phase stability, opto-electronic and thermo-electric behavior of X2AuYZ6 (X = Cs, Rb; Z = Cl/Br/I) double perovskite halides by using the DFT method. The compounds belong to the cubic arrangement and are verified by the tolerance and octahedral factor. Formation enthalpy and binding energy meet the requirements of structural stability. The ductility behavior was also confirmed by the Cauchy pressure, Pugh's ratio, and Poisson's ratio. The positive frequency of phonon dispersion except Rb2AuYI6 compound shows the dynamical stability and the negative formation energy of each identified competing phase confirms the thermo-dynamic equilibrium of all compounds. The band gap values of 2.85(2.91), 2.35(2.40), and 1.74(1.78) eV of Cs2AuYZ6 (Rb2AuYZ6) [Z = Cl, Br, I) double perovskites has been explored in the context of optoelectronic properties, and the results show that these materials might be useful in such devices. The spectral optical response covers the visible-to-UV area, which governs the solar cell and thermo-electric device applications. A comprehensive study of thermo-electric properties such as the thermal conductivity (electrical and electronic part), carrier concentration, thermo-power, and figure of merit was also observed. The investigated compounds [Cs (Rb)-based] exhibit ZT values of 0.51(0.55), 0.53(0.62), and 0.58(0.75) at room temperature with Cl, Br, and I respectively. Additional routine work was also done on the thermo-mechanical characteristics. These studies provide in-depth knowledge of these materials in preparation for their future use.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problems that this paper attempts to solve mainly focus on two aspects: 1. **Material selection in photovoltaic applications**: As the global energy problem becomes increasingly severe, it is extremely important to find green and sustainable energy alternatives. Photovoltaic materials play a crucial role in solar energy conversion. However, existing photovoltaic materials such as lead - based halide perovskites have toxicity and stability issues, which limit their wide - spread applications. Therefore, this research aims to explore lead - free double - perovskite materials \(X_2\text{Au}YZ_6\) (where \(X = \text{Cs}, \text{Rb}\); \(Z=\text{Cl}, \text{Br}, \text{I}\)) as potential photovoltaic materials to overcome the limitations of existing materials. 2. **Optimization of thermoelectric performance in waste heat management**: Besides photovoltaic applications, this research also focuses on the thermoelectric performance of these materials in waste heat recovery. Thermoelectric materials can directly convert waste heat into electrical energy and are an important green energy technology. Through density functional theory (DFT) calculations, this research evaluates the thermoelectric performance of these double - perovskite materials, especially their thermal conductivity, carrier concentration, thermoelectric potential, and figure - of - merit (ZT value), in the hope of discovering new materials with high ZT values and improving the thermoelectric conversion efficiency. Specifically, the goal of this research is to comprehensively evaluate the phase stability, electronic structure, optical properties, and thermodynamic properties of these double - perovskite materials through the DFT method, thereby providing theoretical basis and experimental guidance for future photovoltaic and thermoelectric applications. These materials are structurally in a cubic arrangement. By calculating parameters such as formation enthalpy, binding energy, Cauchy pressure, Pugh ratio, and Poisson's ratio, their structural stability is verified. In addition, by calculating phonon dispersion relations and partial density of states, the dynamic stability and thermodynamic equilibrium state of these materials are further confirmed. In conclusion, through systematic research, this paper aims to provide scientific basis and technical support for the development of new - type photovoltaic and thermoelectric materials that are efficient, stable, and environmentally friendly.
